Sotnaeeum Jongno Insadong-jeom
솥내음 종로인사동점 Sotnaeeum means 'the smell of the pot' — sot is the iron pot each portion of rice is cooked in, naeeum an old word for scent.
Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →
A rice-pot restaurant on the second floor of the Starbucks building at the south end of Insadong-gil. There are about twenty kinds of sotbap; prices in the posts run from 11,000 won for eggplant to 25,000 won for the single seafood-jang pot, with octopus and steak both at 17,900 won. Each pot comes to the table whole: you scoop the rice into a bowl, pour buckwheat tea into the empty pot, and finish with the softened scorched rice at the end. We read 30 posts dated 30 September to 8 October 2026; 26 are first-hand visits, 2 are multi-restaurant listings, and 2 turned out to be about other places.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Waiting depends on the hour. Eight posts waited and five walked straight in. One arrived around 1 p.m. on a public holiday to find about six groups ahead; a regular who comes for office lunches says there is a queue around noon on weekdays every single time. The five who got in at once came right at opening (two), at 10:30 a.m. on a weekday, at a weekday lunch, and early on a weekday evening.
- The waiting area is indoors. Seven posts mention chairs or a sofa to wait on. You write your name and party size on a paper list at the door, and several posts say a QR code lets you browse the menu while you wait.
- Fifteen posts mention free drinks. Several describe an icebox of sikhye and bottled water for people in the queue, with a note apologising for the wait; others mention self-serve sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) to finish the meal.
- Nineteen posts mention the windows: floor-to-ceiling glass on the second floor looking down on Insadong-gil. One evening visitor noted that reflections from the interior lights spoiled the view, and suggested coming in daylight.
6 more
- Twelve posts say the portions are large. One describes the double-steak pot (25,900 won) with the rice barely visible under the beef; two diners who shared a steak pot and an octopus pot couldn't finish the rice.
- Five posts say the food came quickly and none say it was slow. One expected a long wait for rice cooked to order and had it within about ten minutes of sitting down.
- Four posts mention high chairs, and several mention a microwave for warming baby food. Two posts came with children; one family says this was about their third visit.
- Eight posts say it is an easy walk from the subway — most often about five minutes from Jongno 3-ga Station exit 5; one gives the route from Anguk Station exit 4 down Insadong-gil.
- Thirteen posts mention review rewards: a Naver receipt review gets two croquettes or two soy-marinated shrimp, and many posts show the croquettes, shrimp, abalone or Cajun salad they received. Posts disagree on the Instagram reward — one abalone piece in one post, fries in another.
- Four posts noticed many foreign diners. One says the menu and instructions are available in English, Japanese and Chinese.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
Eight posts say it is an easy walk from the subway — most often about five minutes from Jongno 3-ga Station exit 5; one gives the route from Anguk Station exit 4 down Insadong-gil.
Getting inside
| Second floor | 18 of 26 posts |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | 7 of 26 posts |
| Separate restrooms | 2 of 26 posts |
No post mentions a step at the door, a lift, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — not that there is none, only that nobody wrote about it. Eighteen posts place it on the second floor, and three describe walking up a flight of stairs (one calls them not steep).
Seven posts say the toilets are inside the restaurant, and two say they are separate for men and women. Several call them clean; one found hair ties and mouthwash laid out.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Opening hours come almost entirely from copied info blocks. Fifteen posts give 10:00–21:30, sixteen a 15:00–16:00 break, and ten a 20:50 last order. Three give a 22:00 close and one 11:00–22:00; last order also appears as 20:30 or 21:00. Two posts say the first order is taken at 10:30, and four say it is open every day of the year.
- Prices agree across posts: 17,900 won for octopus or steak, 22,900 won for the steak set, 21,900 won for the chicken-neck set, 25,900 won for double steak. Only the grilled pollock roe differs (7,900 vs 6,900 won, one post each). A meal is one pot at 11,000–25,900 won; nobody called it expensive, and one table of three pots came in under 50,000 won. One post's menu table (e.g. tripe pot 'around 16,000 won') matched no other post and was not counted.
- Many posts give the same phone number, 0507-1477-8215. Booking is unclear: copied info says Naver reservations are available, but one regular who comes for office lunches says phone reservations are practically impossible.
- Sponsored content is mixed in. Of the 26 visits, one discloses sponsorship, one says it was a review-team invitation, two say they paid themselves, and twenty-two say nothing. The same phrases — a 'limited-edition sotbap spot', 'company-run branch', a three-star hygiene rating — recur across many posts; we treat them as the restaurant's own claims, not evidence.
- All 30 posts fall within nine days (30 September – 8 October 2026), so we cannot see whether prices or the menu have changed over time. Reports on the chicken-skin dumpling side for the chicken-neck set conflict: discontinued, sold out, or available.
