Ikseondong Yeonriji

익선동 연리지 Yeonriji literally means 'joined branches' — two trees whose limbs have grown into one, an old image of a devoted couple; none of the posts say why the house chose the name.

Ikseondong Yeonriji is a Korean pub-restaurant in the hanok lanes of Ikseon-dong, a walk from Jongno 3-ga station. It serves hot pots, braises and pancakes to drink with, plus rice dishes for a plain meal. The most-ordered dishes in visit posts were the stir-fried baby octopus with pork belly (35,000 won), the braised pork ribs (38,000 won) and the steamed beef-and-enoki rolls (29,000 won), seven posts each; six posts had the beef-tartare bibimbap (14,000 won) as a single meal. Six posts went with friends, five with a partner, two with family. We read 30 posts dated 6 July to 4 October 2026; 26 describe an actual meal. Three were about other places and were set aside, and one only looked at the outside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Thirteen posts mention the window and bar seats facing the lane. One says the big windows were opened on a cool day so it felt like eating outdoors; another notes the glass roof over the hanok courtyard. One diner at the window felt like 'a monkey in a zoo' with passers-by staring, and one couple found the window seats full and sat inside.
  2. Nine posts say staff finish dishes at the table: torching the beef-and-enoki rolls as they arrive, stirring or checking the octopus-and-pork stir-fry, and cutting the kimchi hot pot.
  3. Seven posts say a free snack comes with the side dishes, five naming it as Chakani, an old-fashioned corn cracker. Three mention hard candies by the till on the way out.
  4. Six posts ordered on a tablet or kiosk at the table; one notes it offers Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese.
4 more
  1. Six posts saw many foreign diners; one, arriving at opening, said more than two-thirds of the room was foreign by the time it filled.
  2. Eight posts found portions generous — the beef rolls enough for two, the spicy pork with rice balls more filling than expected, the tartare bibimbap heaped with meat and vegetables.
  3. Five posts found the octopus-and-pork stir-fry spicy — one partner ate it with a runny nose and sweat — while one post called it only mildly hot.
  4. Four posts walked from Jongno 3-ga station (exits 3 or 6, a few minutes). One walked about ten minutes and found it far from the Line 3 platforms, suggesting Line 5 instead.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 25 posts

Most posts copy 'no parking' from the listing; one says in its own words there is no dedicated parking and to use nearby lots. One post's info box says parking is available, contradicting the rest. One post mentions driving there.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Four posts walked from Jongno 3-ga station (exits 3 or 6, a few minutes). One walked about ten minutes and found it far from the Line 3 platforms, suggesting Line 5 instead.

Getting inside

Toilet inside4 of 25 posts
Separate restrooms3 of 25 posts

Floor: posts only copy '1st floor' from the address; none describes steps up or down on the way in, so we do not know.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in — not a no, simply unrecorded. One post mentions a high chair for babies.

Four posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant and three that it is split by gender; three note the hand basin sits separately outside the toilet.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Waits vary. Two posts did not wait — one booked through Naver for about 6 pm on a Thursday, another found seats around 2 pm on a Saturday. One post that went in at 5 pm on a Saturday (visited 25 April) saw a long queue form by 7:30 and says that once people are waiting, tables are limited to two hours; they were asked out at the two-hour mark. That is the only post to mention the limit.
  • Outdoor tables seem seasonal: an April visit saw staff set out about five tables around 6 pm, while an August visit saw none. No post says when they are used.
  • Seasoning is mostly described as moderate — four posts said not salty. One found the octopus a little salty, and one found the rib stew salty when eaten without rice.
  • One post thought prices high (the 25,000-won spicy pork with rice balls, though it proved filling); one called them reasonable. For two, the octopus stir-fry (35,000 won) plus fried rice (3,000 won) comes to 38,000 won before drinks.
  • Opening hours appear in 21 posts, nearly all copied from the listing: 13 give 11:00-23:00 Sunday to Thursday and 11:00-23:30 Friday and Saturday, 7 give just 11:00-23:00, one 11:00-23:30. Only one says it never closes; none mentions a break or last order.
  • The phone number 0507-1327-8687 is copied in many posts, but none booked by phone; one booked through Naver.
  • Three visit posts disclose sponsorship, five say they paid, and eighteen say nothing. Among the silent ones, two paste in a Naver review-count widget and several list 'date, gathering, company dinner, family' in the same pattern, so commissioned copy is likely mixed in. Sponsored posts still describe what was ordered and where they sat, so we counted them.
