Eodam Ikseon

어담익선 Eodam pairs 魚 (fish) and 談 (talk) — the sushi platters are named 어(魚)·담(談)·익(益)·선(善) — and Ikseon is the neighbourhood, Ikseon-dong.

A Japanese restaurant in a hanok on Ikseon-dong's hanok lane (Donhwamun-ro 11na-gil 27, ground floor), serving aged sashimi and sushi alongside sake-steamed clams and tempura. We read 30 posts dated 18 August to 9 October 2026; 25 describe a visit (four only introduce the place, one is about another business). Nineteen of those 25 ordered the Eodam set for two or three — assorted sashimi, steamed clams and tempura — at 94,000 won. Sushi platters run 24,000 won for 12 pieces and 33,000 for 15; posts also ordered cod soup (23,000) and a scallop cream pasta (30,000). Lunch visits include a booked table for a team of four and a lunch special; most evening posts are pairs sharing the set over drinks.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The tempura gets the most attention. Fifteen of the 25 visit posts said the batter was crisp, and nearly all singled out the large eel in the middle — one cut it with scissors, another could barely lift it with tongs. One writer worried it would go soggy since everything arrived at once, but said it stayed crisp to the end.
  2. Ten posts mention window seats looking onto the Ikseon-dong alleys through large panes — one on a rainy day, one at 1 pm on a Friday in full daylight. Two say booking ahead got them a window table.
  3. Seven posts say the first thing you see on entering is the open kitchen where the fish is cut.
  4. Eleven posts call the portions generous. One pair who shared the Eodam set said it was a bit much for two and wished for a two-person version; several note the heap of pasta under the clams.
5 more
  1. Five posts say white kimchi arrives first. One adds that chili and soy sauces come in full bottles and pickled ginger and shallots are self-serve beside the kiosk.
  2. Six posts found it quiet for a place that serves drinks; two noticed blind dates at nearby tables. One post, though, said it is not an overly hushed or formal room.
  3. Five posts ordered on a tablet or kiosk at the table; one saw English, Japanese and Chinese options, and another got single sushi pieces not on the kiosk by asking staff.
  4. Five posts saw an offer of an Asahi draft or seared swordfish sushi for a receipt or photo review; one noted conditions such as paying for certain items up front.
  5. You can bring your own bottle, but not free: one post paid 30,000 won corkage for a gifted bottle (another copies the same figure in an info block).

Posts saying you cannot2 of 24 posts

Ten posts touch on parking, mostly copying 'no parking; Ikseon lot 1,500 won per 10 minutes'. Two writers say it in their own words, regretting how hard parking is. Eight say it is an easy walk from Jongno 3-ga station exit 6 (three to five minutes).

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 24 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 24 posts

No post mentions an entrance step or wheelchair or stroller access — that is unknown, not absent. One post confirms it is on the ground floor; as it is a hanok, call ahead.

Only one post describes the toilets: inside the restaurant, separate for men and women, with mouthwash and toothpicks. Another just says they were clean.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Whether the clam broth is spicy is split: three posts call it slightly hot, while one family post says it is not spicy and a child could eat it — three to one.
  • No one reports waiting; one post saw a 10-minute wait on CatchTable when leaving. Four posts booked ahead; advice to book at weekends is advice, not experience.
  • Opening hours: eighteen posts agree on 11:30–22:30 with last order at 21:30. Eleven say the 15:00–17:00 break is weekdays only. No post gives a closing day, and one notes a channel listing 23:00 as closing. Most of this is copied from Naver.
  • Prices mostly agree, with single outliers: one post gives 92,000 won for the Eodam set and one 28,000 for the 12-piece sushi. A machine-written comparison listing the set at 126,000 contradicts every other post and was ignored. A set for two plus drinks comes to a little over 100,000 won.
  • Many posts look like a paid campaign: near-identical lines about fish from Noryangjin aged four hours every morning, a chef with 26 years in hotels, and a 'rare real hanok' recur in about fifteen posts, all within seven weeks. Only two disclose sponsorship. We treated those lines as the restaurant's own copy, not evidence.
  • Eight posts give the phone number 0507-1305-4840; one each lists 02-764-4840 and 010-4848-4783. Most bookings were made through Naver.
