Hyehwa Kalguksu
혜화칼국수 Hyehwa is the neighbourhood around Hyehwa Station and the rotary the shop sits behind; kalguksu means knife-cut noodle soup, though the menu itself calls the dish guksi.
Compiled from 12 blog posts read in fullSources →
A guksi house in the lane behind Hyehwa rotary, between the police box and the petrol station. The order is thin noodles in beef-bone broth (12,000 won) with fried cod or boiled beef (small 20,000 won) on the side; in summer there is kongguksu (14,000 won). We read 22 posts from 19 August to 6 October 2026; 13 of them record an actual meal. Of those 13, twelve ordered the guksi and eight the fried fish. One found the food "fairly ordinary".

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- The fried fish is thick cod in batter; five posts say the coating was crisp. Two warn there can be bones, so don't take it in one bite.
- Waits vary. One post walked in at 12:02 but found "a really long line" on the way out; another found a weekday lunch "pretty quiet". Two more arrived right at the 11:00 opening, got straight in, and both advise doing the same — one says every table filled within 10–15 minutes.
- Both posts written by parents with babies say staff brought a high chair unasked. One adds that they microwaved the baby food and, when it came out too hot, lent a hand fan to cool it.
- Three posts call the inside clean, and all three think it has been renovated; one returning after several years says it looks tidier than before. Nobody says when the work was done.
1 more
- The sides are kimchi — aged, stir-fried, chive. Two posts mention refills: one says staff topped it up constantly, the other points to a self-serve bar in the middle of the room.

Parking
1 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

One post actually parked: four or five spaces by the officetel opposite, easy enough at a weekday lunch. Other posts' "parking out front" or "parking is tight" lines are copied listings or generic advice, so we don't count them.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 2 (of 12 posts read) |
|---|
We know little about floors. One post thinks there is also a basement dining room; another heard there is a room downstairs. No one actually sat there.
No one describes the entrance — whether there is a step, or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in. That is not a no; nobody wrote it down. One parent carried the baby in, and the "wheelchair accessible" line is copied from the Naver listing.
The toilet is outside the dining room. Two posts say so, and both found it clean; one counted two stalls and hand soap. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in a line copied from the Naver listing, so we don't count it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 19 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Only one post gives its own directions: 437 m from Hyehwa Station exit 1, down the lane between the rotary police box and the petrol station. No one mentions a bus.
- Of the posts that say who they came with: family three, a partner two, a younger friend one. None came alone.
- Opening hours: five posts agree on 11:00–21:00 with a 15:00–16:00 break, and three give last orders at 20:30. Most copied a listing; one read the Monday-to-Sunday sign on the door. No post mentions a closing day.
- Two posts give prices and they match (August and October 2026): guksi 12,000 won, kongguksu 14,000, extra noodles 6,000, boiled beef, fried fish or crisp bulgogi 20,000 small / 38,000 large, octopus 25,000, mung-bean pancake 15,000. Two bowls plus a small fish comes to 44,000 won. One post calls the prices kind, another wondered if the small beef was small for the money, so we don't call it either way.
- Three posts give the phone number as 0507-1428-8214, one as 02-743-8212. Bookings for five or more appear only in copied listing text; no one booked.
- We set aside two posts that only link to this place from a review of somewhere else. Seven more never visited: four list-style roundups, two histories of the area's guksi houses, and one bare check-in. The story of opening in 1979 on a recipe passed down from Guksijip, and the Reply 1988 filming connection, are hearsay, and we don't rely on them.
