Jeil Gopchang

제일곱창 Jeil means 'number one' or 'the first', and gopchang is grilled beef small intestine.

Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Korean-beef gopchang grill on the Wangsimni tripe street at 281 Gosanja-ro. Eleven posts put the 580 g mixed platter (small and large intestine, abomasum, heart) at 64,000 won; staff grill it at your table from start to finish, then fry rice (3,000 won) in the leftover fat. Two people having one platter and one fried rice pay 67,000 won. Thirteen posts warn that you cannot add to your order while people are waiting, so order generously up front. When the main room is full, guests are sent upstairs or to an annex in the back alley. We read 30 posts from 27 January to 23 October 2026; 27 describe an actual meal. Two posts about the neighbouring Wangsimni Matna Gopchang and one neighbourhood ranking list were not counted.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Of the 27 meal posts, 26 say staff do the grilling. The routine is described almost identically each time: the intestines are snipped and lined up round the rim, the heart is placed on your sauce dish before it toughens, and at the end green-onion kimchi is fried in the fat and a slice of white bread is laid down to soak it up. Two posts asked whether anyone eats the bread and were told some people do.
  2. Twelve posts say the platter comes out already seared in a wood-fired oven; two add that it cooks through quickly on the strong flame.
  3. Twenty-four posts say a soft-tofu stew with a whole octopus arrives free once you order; one calls the octopus as long as a forearm. Green-onion kimchi, raw omasum and a truffle-caper wasabi are also part of the spread. Raw liver showed up in January and June posts; an August post says it is held back in summer for freshness.
  4. Thirteen posts waited and nine walked straight in. The waits reported: about 30 minutes behind 11 groups at 6 pm on a Friday; 43 minutes from 6:47 pm on a weekday; 30 to 40 minutes behind 15 groups at 6 pm; 30 minutes around 4 pm on a Saturday; tenth in line at 5:10 pm on a weekday and seated at 6; and an hour and a half behind 30 groups at 7 pm on a Saturday. Those who got straight in mostly came on weekdays at 4 pm, around 5, at 5:30 or around 6; one arrived at 7 pm and was sent directly to the annex. You register on a machine out front, though posts disagree on whether it is Tabling or CatchTable, and one notes there is nowhere to wait inside.
5 more
  1. Seven posts say there is no gamey smell and none say otherwise; one writer's companion, who cannot stand offal odour, asks to come here. Two posts from 21 October did find the intestine a bit chewy.
  2. Twelve posts were return visits, from regulars who come every few months to one writer back after ten years.
  3. Ten posts call the staff friendly; one says the griller joined their conversation and helped sort out their worries, others that staff paused so they could take photos.
  4. Four posts mention walls covered in celebrity autographs.
  5. Nine posts walked from Wangsimni Station, putting it at 4 to 10 minutes from exit 2.

Getting inside

Second floor3 of 27 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 3 (of 27 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 27 posts

Three posts were seated upstairs rather than in the ground-floor main room. A party of seven found the upper floor much tidier than downstairs, and one post says you leave the front door and take the stairs right beside it. Separately, several posts describe an annex in the alley behind (Wangsimni-ro 20-gil) that you can only enter once the main shop sends you; one post says there are two annexes. Nobody mentions a basement.

No one says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or pushchair gets in; that is a gap in what was written, not a no. One post says the upstairs seating is reached by an outside staircase.

Only one post, about the back-alley annex, says the toilet is indoors. Nobody describes the main room's toilet; separate men's and women's toilets appear only in copied amenity lists.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours are given almost everywhere as noon to 10 pm, closed Sundays, but nearly all of it is copied from the listing. Public holidays are disputed: four posts say it closes, one says it stayed open over Chuseok. Two posts say there is no afternoon break; none gives a last-order time.
  • Most posts give 64,000 won for the 580 g platter. One January post says 63,000 won, and one August post lists 58,000 won in its menu rundown while paying 64,000 won in the same post; we could not tell a price rise from a typo. Three posts call it expensive and two call it fair or cheap.
  • Nine posts give the phone number 010-8690-9792. One says reservations are not taken; you queue on the machine out front instead. One post phoned ahead to check the queue, and three say groups with a pregnant guest are seated without waiting.
  • Two pairs of posts share a lot of wording: 17 and 29 September (numbered sections, the same '368 m' line, the same menu list) and 31 July and 3 August (the annex, a 7,000-won sparkling cheongha, turmeric dusting). We counted them because they describe meals, but they may come from the same brief. Two more posts carry a half-deleted review-count widget.
