Kyowa Udon
쿄와우동 Udon is the thick Japanese wheat noodle the house rolls and cuts itself; none of the posts explain what 'Kyowa' means.

Kyowa Udon is a house-made udon shop in a basement at 17 Gyedong-gil, Jongno-gu, at the foot of Gyedong-gil near Exit 3 of Anguk Station. The menu runs from 9,900-won kake udon to 13,900-won ankake and 15,900-won kabocha cream udon, hot and cold; eleven of the 24 visiting posts ordered the ebiten bukkake (12,900 won). Ten posts say you order on a tablet or kiosk at your seat, and mustard-leaf kimchi and pickled radish sit on every table. We read 30 posts dated 30 July to 14 October 2026; one was about a neighbouring café and was dropped, and five list, route or notice posts were not counted as visits, leaving 24.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Expect to wait at weekend lunch. Eleven posts say they waited; the times they give are 9 minutes, 15 to 20, about 18 and about 25 — one got number 24 just after 1 pm on a weekend and was seated 25 minutes later, another was quoted 140 minutes and got in after 9. The three who walked straight in came at 6:40 pm and 6:55 pm on weekdays and 3 pm on a weekend. Several posts say you join the CatchTable queue inside and wander until you are called; one was told not to wait in the space by the counter but outside.
- Fifteen posts call the tempura crisp, and several noted the shrimp stayed crisp even dipped in tsuyu. The kakiage arrives standing like a tower; one pair could not break it with chopsticks, another writer was handed scissors by staff, and one found it nine-tenths onion.
- Seasoning splits opinion: four posts found something salty — a cold udon broth, the hiya mentaiko, the tonkatsu sauce, the free mini gyudon — while two called the seasoning just right.
- Four posts say writing a receipt review gets you a free mini beef bowl; three found it generous and good, one too salty. One writer said they would have skipped their side dish had they known.
2 more
- You order from your seat: ten posts describe a table tablet or kiosk with payment up front. Chopsticks and napkins live in a drawer in the table. The mustard-leaf kimchi and pickled radish are set out to help yourself; fifteen posts mention the kimchi, one finding parts of it over-fermented.
- The 'two minutes from Anguk Exit 3' line is mostly copied, but four posts say from experience it was easy to reach from the station.

Several posts copy that there is no shop parking and point to the Hyundai Gyedong building car park opposite (copied as 30 minutes free, 3,000 won an hour, 9,000 won for two). Only one writer actually drove, and said they parked there and walked straight in.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

The shop is down a flight of stairs in the basement. Thirteen visiting posts mention going down, and five single out the stairs: pebble-set steps so uneven everyone held the wall, edges hard to see so one writer nearly fell, a passage that looked wide enough for one. One post says to look for a black sandwich board marked B1F between the chicken-soup and chicken-noodle signs on Gyedong-gil. Once down, seven posts call the room surprisingly roomy for a basement; two say it is not large.
No one went in with a wheelchair or pushchair. Five posts describe only the stairs and none mentions a lift or another entrance, so we read it as hard to reach by wheelchair. One writer warned people with weak legs to take great care.
Only one post mentions toilets: outside the shop, women's on the third floor, men's on the second with its own door code posted at the entrance. We have no second post to confirm it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Kitchen speed varies: two posts waited 15 or 20 to 30 minutes for their udon, one had it in five.
- Company: four went as couples, one with a friend, one alone. Many posts say the bar seats look good for solo diners, but only one writer actually went alone, and found a side of tonkatsu too much for one. No one went with children; one post notes a high chair.
- All opening hours are copied. Most posts give weekdays 10:30 to 21:00 with a break from 15:00 to 17:30 and last orders at 14:30 and 20:30, and weekends 10:30 to 20:30 with no break and last orders at 20:00. Two posts give the break as 15:00 to 17:00, and one says it closes at 22:00 daily. No post names a weekly closing day; two say it closes for holidays. A notice post says it shut 7 to 9 September 2026 for a kitchen refit. Two posts found many dishes sold out in the evening or just before the break.
- Prices are mostly consistent across copied menus. Only niku udon splits (11,000 won on one copy, 11,900 in four posts), and an extra shrimp tempura is 1,900 won by an August receipt and 2,400 on an October one. One receipt for two — two udon, a tonkatsu, an extra shrimp and a cola — came to 38,100 won. One post called it not cheap, two said it was worth the money, and one said both.
- Thirteen posts give the phone number 0507-1335-5873; one says the CatchTable listing shows 070-8833-2998. No post mentions phone reservations — everyone used CatchTable's remote queue.
- Copied menus say the lime sorbet udon runs May to September and the tofu-pouch bokjumeoni udon October to April. No post has eaten the bokjumeoni udon yet.
