Oksang Byeolgwan

옥상별관 Oksang byeolgwan means 'rooftop annex' — it sits on the roof above the 8th floor of Hanil Tower, the building whose lower floors hold the restaurant Hanilok.

Compiled from 18 blog posts read in fullSources →

Oksang Byeolgwan is a rooftop pork-belly grill above the 8th floor of Hanil Tower, Suphyo-ro 94, near Jongno 3-ga station. Today you grill it yourself: a 400 g half set with mushrooms, leek and potato for 47,000 won, or a 600 g full set for 64,000. Most finish with the 9,000-won crab-and-abalone ramyeon and 3,000-won fried rice; one pair's half set, ramyeon and a bottle of soju came to 61,000 won. In a June 2025 post, and one describing an earlier visit, the main dish was a smoked belly pre-grilled by staff. We read 22 posts from June 2025 to October 2026, 18 of them actual visits; one post about Hanilok, the restaurant downstairs, was set aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. This is a book-ahead place: 15 posts mention Naver reservations. Three wrote of a queue — about 30 minutes behind two walk-in parties at 6:40 on a Friday, a June 2025 weekday walk-in who got a call and was seated at 8, and a full house with people waiting. Two weekday walk-ins at 5:30 and 6 were seated at once but told to leave within 90 minutes for the next booking. One post says the waiting seats are in the 8th-floor lounge.
  2. Many posts copy the notice that tables are limited to 90 minutes when full. Two were actually told so; two others stayed past 90 minutes without being asked to leave, one for about two hours once the queue cleared after 9 pm.
  3. Six posts walked from Jongno 3-ga station — two to three minutes, about 232 m, from Exit 15.
  4. The meat itself is called decent rather than special in four posts; four also noted a thick cut. Five found it on the pricey side, though one said the setting makes the price acceptable.
2 more
  1. Six posts praised the staff: grill plates swapped on request, a table moved out of the glare, and free octopus in the fried rice after a missed order. Four said side dishes like bean sprouts and kimchi are refilled on request.
  2. Who came: friends in five posts, a partner in three, groups of four in two. Two posts also noticed office parties at nearby tables.

Parking is unclear. Two posts said in their own words there is no lot. Copied info blocks disagree — five say no parking, two say paid parking in the building — so we don't rely on them.

Getting inside

Lift to the floor7 of 18 posts
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 5 (of 18 posts read)

Floors: the restaurant is on the roof above the 8th floor, not a basement or second floor; the '2nd-3rd floor' in the registered address belongs to Hanilok downstairs. No post discussed a basement or second floor.

Seven posts describe the route: take the Hanil Tower elevator to the 8th floor, then climb one flight of stairs to the roof. Several got lost at street level; one tip is to enter left of the Hanilok entrance.

No one wrote about going up with a wheelchair or stroller. Seven posts say the elevator stops at the 8th floor and the roof is one flight of stairs further; whether there is step-free access we don't know — nobody mentioned it.

There is no toilet on the roof. Five posts say you use the one a floor down in the 8th-floor lounge and bar, and all five found it clean — unusual for an outdoor drinking spot, as one noted.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 21 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Noise splits two to two: two found it calmer than street stalls and easy to talk, two found it loud and too busy for a serious conversation.
  • The menu changed. The June 2025 post and one recalling an earlier visit describe a smoked belly pre-grilled by staff, plus pork skin; posts from April 2026 on describe fresh belly sets you grill yourself. We don't know exactly when it changed.
  • All opening hours are copied from listings. Weekdays are 17:00-22:00 in every post. Saturday opening is given as 16:30 in six, 17:00 in four and 16:00 in one; last order 21:30 in six; closed Sundays in nine. Two posts say it closes or cancels bookings when it rains. Whether it opens in the cold months we don't know; one post described a reopening in September 2026.
  • The phone number 0507-1477-9951 appears in eight posts, copied from listings; bookings go through Naver. One post quotes the booking notice saying specific tables can't be reserved.
