Insa Dodam

인사도담 Insa Dodam Insa comes from Insa-dong, the neighbourhood it stands in; dodam is a native Korean word (as in dodam-dodam, of a child growing up sturdy and well) that the operator Taekdaerine puts on all its branches, such as Jongno Dodam and Sambong Dodam.

Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →

Insa Dodam is a Korean restaurant in a hanok down an alley off Insadong 16-gil, near exit 6 of Anguk station, serving stir-fried octopus, water-parsley pancake, Eonyang-style bulgogi and pork-rib braise with regional makgeolli, and bibimbap at lunch. Several posts say it is run by Taekdaerine, the group behind Sambong Dodam and Jongno Dodam. In 2026 posts a small octopus is 28,000 won, the pancake 16,000 won and bibimbap 12,000 won; three couples ordered the 53,000-won two-person set. Two posts say the menu was overhauled in February 2026; earlier posts show a 10,000-won 'Dodam bibimbap' and bean patties. We read 30 posts from February 2025 to October 2026, set aside 3 about other restaurants, and 17 describe actually eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The water-parsley pancake's crunch is the most repeated point: 12 of the 17 posts that ate here mention it, one likening it to a cracker and another to tempura. One post credits the bamboo basket for keeping it from going oily and soggy to the last bite.
  2. There are private rooms: seven posts that visited saw them, describing a large room by the entrance and two rooms divided by sliding doors. The figures of up to 10 in a room and 24 for groups are copied from the listing.
  3. Waiting depends on the hour. Two posts waited: under 30 minutes on a Sunday evening, and a party of six who had booked by phone yet saw a sizeable queue outside. Two walked straight in, around 12:40 on a Sunday and on an August 2026 visit. Several mention a handwritten list at the door; one says names are called out, another that you leave a number and get a call.
  4. Six posts found the portions large: a couple left pancake behind, another pair nearly burst on the two-person rib braise, and one put the brisket steam at about one and a half servings. One post felt the octopus dish had more rice cake than octopus.
2 more
  1. On the octopus, five posts call it spicy, one says it is not very hot, and three settle on 'moderately spicy' without a verdict.
  2. Three posts noticed celebrity autographs by the entrance; two singled out the comedian character Tanaka.

Getting inside

Toilet inside3 of 17 posts
Separate restrooms2 of 17 posts

We do not know about floors: beyond the '1st floor' in the address, no post mentions stairs or which level they sat on.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or pushchair can get in. That is not a no; nobody wrote about it.

Three posts place the toilet inside, by the entrance; two say it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 10 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-112 posts in one day
2026-09-292 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Who people came with does not settle into a pattern: one post each with a friend, a party of six, and a father.
  • Four posts describe walking from Anguk exit 6; the '102 m, two minutes' figure is copied from the listing, and no post came by bus.
  • Fifteen of the 16 visiting posts that give hours agree on 11:00 to 22:00 daily with a 15:00 to 17:00 break. One post about a 2023 visit gives the break as 15:30 to 17:30, and another lists a 21:40 close. Six give last orders at 14:00 for lunch and 21:00 for dinner; bibimbap is lunch only.
  • Prices split around the February 2026 menu overhaul: before it, bibimbap 10,000 won, rib braise 18,000 and octopus 33,000; from April 2026, bibimbap 12,000, rib braise 17,000 for one and small octopus 28,000. Two people on the set pay 53,000 won, which one post said is not exactly cheap.
  • Twelve posts give the number 0507-1365-0141, and one also lists 02-735-0074. Two posts booked ahead, one by phone and one through Naver.
  • Free lunchtime makgeolli is hearsay except for one post from a 2023 visit that poured it from a kettle. Three posts actually received the review-for-a-freebie offer of tofu, noodles or makgeolli.
  • A cluster of posts summarise the 'official information' without eating anything, repeating the same lines about mild seasoning, a staff recipe contest and Michael Jackson; we did not count them as visits.
