Yongyong Seonsaeng Jonggak-jeom

용용선생 종각점 Yongyong Seonsaeng reads as 'Master Yongyong'; yong is the Korean word for dragon, and the sign carries the dragon figure the posts call Yong-seonsaeng.

Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →

Yongyong Seonsaeng Jonggak is a franchise Chinese-style pub on the ground and second floors of a building in the Jonggak 'youth street' alleys. The table centres on the volcano mala hot pot (24,900 won), with soy egg fried rice (5,900 won) and fried dishes like yuringi and butter kkanpunggi, washed down with kaoliang or beer, often as a second or third round. We read 28 posts from November 2024 to October 2026; 21 describe a visit. We set aside four about Hanook, the cocktail bar in the same building's basement, one about the Myeongdong branch and one job ad, and did not count one introduction the shop wrote itself.

Rows without a count: 7 of 9 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Waiting depends on the night. Three posts met a queue: a Friday-evening group who had booked and saw four or five parties waiting behind them, a September 2026 group who gave up, went next door, then phoned and came back when a table freed, and a regular who says weekend evenings usually have a wait. One post walked straight in around 6 pm on a Monday. Four posts say they booked ahead.
  2. Five posts found the food spicy and one said it was not, by their standard. On the volcano hot pot, one called the mala close to the real thing and quite strong while others found the spice mild; on the rose xiangguo, one writer was in tears ('90% mala, 10% rose') and another found the cream kept it gentle.
  3. Six posts called the fried dishes crisp: yuringi, butter kkanpunggi, guobaorou, mala dumplings and lemon cream shrimp. One December 2025 post found the butter kkanpunggi too sweet and left it.
  4. Three posts say pickled radish and salted peanuts arrive free when you sit down; one admits to eating the peanuts nonstop.

Getting inside

Second floor8 of 17 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 3 (of 17 posts read)
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 4 (of 17 posts read)
Separate restrooms4 of 17 posts

Eight posts mention a separate second floor. One was walked in on the ground floor and sent upstairs; another said the ground floor was loud and upstairs much quieter. Both posts that called it quiet sat upstairs, while one said plainly it is no place for a quiet talk. Five called the place spacious; one guessed it seats about a hundred.

The restaurant is on the ground and second floors; three posts entered or sat on the ground floor. The basement belongs to Hanook, a separate cocktail bar, and we set aside the four posts about it.

No post says whether there is a step at the door, whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in, or whether there is a lift. That means we don't know, not that there is none. One post notes the second-floor women's toilet is up a flight of stairs.

The toilets are not inside the restaurant. Four posts say you step out to the building's toilets, and all four say they are split by floor: men's on the ground floor, women's on the second, reached by going out a side door and up the stairs. One post (July 2025) found them clean; another (December 2025) called them very dirty.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 18 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours changed. Posts from July and October 2025 give a 4:30 pm opening Monday to Thursday; seven posts from July 2026 on say 4 pm. Closing is the same throughout: 2 am Sunday to Thursday (last order 1 am) and 3:30 am Friday and Saturday (last order 2:30). All of this is copied from the listing, and no post mentions a closing day.
  • Prices: four posts from October 2025 to September 2026 all give 24,900 won for the volcano hot pot. Butter kkanpunggi is 17,400 won in one December 2025 post and 16,900 won in one August 2026 post; stone-plate jjajang is 22,900 won, or 23,900 with mala. Two posts said it was not expensive, but none says what a person spent on a meal.
  • It is close to transit: two posts walked from Jonggak Station exit 4 or 12, and two came by bus to Jongno 2-ga.
  • Six posts give the same phone number, 02-733-1119, and posts mention booking through Naver. One June 2025 post is the shop's own promotional text, so we did not use it as evidence.
