Torigoya
토리고야 Torigoya is the Japanese word for a bird hut or chicken coop.
Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →
Torigoya is a Japanese-style izakaya that fills all four floors of a building on the Jonggak 'Youth Street' (Ujeongguk-ro 2-gil 36), a short walk from exit 4 of Jonggak station. People come for Jeju shrimp and salmon sashimi, hotpots such as Nagasaki champon nabe and fried dishes like octopus karaage, drunk with highballs; hotpots and sashimi mostly cost ₩27,000–32,000. One couple recorded a ₩149,500 bill for a hotpot, the shrimp, a fried dish, four highballs and three bottles of cheongha. Posts from 2026 list daily hours of 17:30 to 5:00 am (last order 4:00); in 2025 it opened at 16:00 on weekdays and 15:00 at weekends. We read 30 posts from January 2025 to September 2026; 25 describe an actual visit. We set aside three posts that were really about neighbouring businesses or a car park, and did not count two that only compiled listing information.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Every table gets raw cabbage with a salty house miso as a free starter; 19 posts mention it. Some likened the paste to braised-beef sauce or pickles, and one asked for a refill. Two posts differ: one got plain cabbage with no sauce (November 2025), another got braised quail eggs and seaweed stems (September 2026).
- Thirteen posts put it 2–5 minutes on foot from exit 4 of Jonggak station; the usual directions run down the Mom's Touch alley and turn at the Insaeng sashimi restaurant, and several mention a bus stop a minute or two away. One writer says friends meet outside Torigoya rather than at the station exit.
- Six posts say it is not noisy despite its size; nine mention wide spacing between tables, and several describe partitions that make each table feel like a semi-private room. Many of these remarks come from the templated promotional posts described below.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
Thirteen posts put it 2–5 minutes on foot from exit 4 of Jonggak station; the usual directions run down the Mom's Touch alley and turn at the Insaeng sashimi restaurant, and several mention a bus stop a minute or two away. One writer says friends meet outside Torigoya rather than at the station exit.
Getting inside
| Second floor | 14 of 25 posts |
|---|---|
| Lift to the floor | yes 0 · no 1 (of 25 posts read) |
| Toilet inside | 6 of 25 posts |
| Separate restrooms | 3 of 25 posts |
The whole building, ground to fourth floor, is the restaurant; 14 posts sat upstairs or went up. The ground floor is a corridor of two-seat tables plus a terrace open to the street, and several posts say the upper floors are roomier, with more space for groups. Two booked guests were seated downstairs; several others were sent to the third floor when the ground floor was full. One noted that ground-floor seats sit close to an alley smoking spot and catch cigarette smoke.
No post mentions a basement level; they describe entering at street level and taking the stairs up.
Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or about getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair. There is no mention of a lift; one post says the upper floors are reached by stairs, adding that the steps are low. Remember that the toilets are on the second and third floors. This does not mean access is hard, only that nobody recorded it.
Toilets are inside, on the upper floors. Six posts say so, and three specify women's on the second floor and men's on the third. One found the women's toilet clean but with only a single stall. From a ground-floor table you will need the stairs.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Some posts are templated promotions. Seven from August–September 2026 share the same info block, the 'Suntory-selected highball house' line, praise for the highball machine, a soda-water highball tip, the 'house-made miso' and the same set of dishes. None discloses sponsorship, but they read like commissioned copy. A June–July 2025 group shares lines such as 'aircon at minus ten' and 'free item before 7 pm', and one of those is tagged as sponsored. They are included in the counts above. Claims such as 'highball house', 'grade-1 pork' and 'top-grade Norwegian salmon' are the shop's own words, repeated by bloggers, and we did not treat them as evidence.
- Opening hours have changed. Eight posts from June–November 2025 give 16:00 on weekdays and 15:00 at weekends, closing at 5:00 am (two say Wednesdays open at 17:30). A May 2026 post gives 17:30 weekdays and 15:30 weekends, and 13 posts from July 2026 onward give 17:30–5:00 daily, last order 4:00. Four mention no closing day. All are copied info blocks, not times we confirmed with the shop.
- No post describes actually waiting. Three say there is usually a table outside peak hours and any queue moves fast, but all three are templated promotions and none gives a time. One advises booking online for Fridays and Saturdays, and three posts say they reserved ahead.
- Portions depend on the dish. Six posts found the hotpots and tataki generous; two felt the shrimp sashimi or octopus karaage was small for the price, and one found the shrimp small but the yellowtail ample.
- Prices vary a little by date and post. The medium Jeju shrimp is ₩28,000 in three posts and ₩29,000 in one; the large is listed at ₩45,000 or ₩49,000. Two posts found it expensive (a ₩8,000 highball; about ₩3,000 per shrimp), two called prices fair or low. Only two posts give a whole bill: ₩149,500 for two people, and ₩73,000 for tataki, salmon and two bottles of cheongha as a second round.
- Most posts give the phone number as 0507-1370-5777; one ranking list gives 02-725-5777. Two posts booked through Naver, and two say a Naver booking earns a free highball. Nobody mentions booking by phone.
