Korean

Jangheon Gamjatang

장헌감자탕 Jangheon is written 匠軒, roughly 'the craftsman's house', and gamjatang is the pork-backbone and potato stew the place is built around.

Compiled from 31 blog posts read in fullSources →

Jangheon Gamjatang is a pork-backbone stew house in the basement of the Point23 building on Jonggak's Youth Street. It serves three dishes — gamjatang, braised backbones, and a spicy backbone hot pot — in medium, large and extra-large; a medium gamjatang is 33,000 won and a single-serving bowl 11,000. Pots boil at the table, and staff finish with roe fried rice cooked in front of you. We read 31 posts from 3 to 19 October 2026, all written right after it opened: 3 disclosed paid advertising, 2 said they paid their own way, and 26 said nothing either way.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. It is a walk from the subway: 15 posts said it is close and easy on foot, giving four, five and seven minutes from exit 4 of Jonggak Station. Several walked along Cheonggyecheon stream afterward.
  2. Fried rice is made at your table: eight posts said staff or the owner cooked the roe fried rice for them, and one recalls being told to switch off the burner after thirty seconds.
  3. Leaving a Naver photo review earns a free add-in or roe fried rice; six posts said they got it this way.
  4. Side dishes come two ways: 13 posts said they could get more. The self-serve bar has onion, ssamjang, green chilies, perilla powder, pepper and small tongs for picking meat off the bone, while kimchi and radish kimchi are brought by staff on request. One post, arriving an hour before closing, found the kimchi had run out.
6 more
  1. Eight posts ordered on a tablet or kiosk at the table; one found the single-serving gamjatang only on that screen, not on the wall menu.
  2. Eight posts found the seasoning not too salty; one said the braised backbones with kimchi were a little salty and ordered rice to balance it.
  3. Of the nine posts that called it spicy, most had the braise or the spicy hot pot. Three said it was not spicy, one of them about the spicy hot pot itself, saying it isn't very hot even with all the sauce stirred in.
  4. Five posts saw the origin labels, one noting that even the chili powder, not just the bones, was Korean. Another could not find the bones' origin on the menu and declined to call them domestic. Claims about broth made every morning and house-made kimchi are copied from the shop's own description, so we did not rely on them.
  5. Three posts said food came quickly; one weekday-lunch visitor timed the gamjatang at two to three minutes after ordering.
  6. Sixteen posts found the portions large. One said a medium gamjatang is just right for two; another found a medium spicy hot pot too much for two and right for three.

Where it is

Map showing where Jangheon Gamjatang is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

It is a walk from the subway: 15 posts said it is close and easy on foot, giving four, five and seven minutes from exit 4 of Jonggak Station. Several walked along Cheonggyecheon stream afterward.

Getting inside

In a basement21 of 31 posts
Toilet inside9 of 31 posts
Separate restrooms3 of 31 posts

The restaurant is one floor below ground; 21 posts describe walking down into it. The entrance is a hanok-style gate on the left side of the Point23 building, and one post warns it is easy to walk past since nothing is at street level.

We don't know about steps or wheelchair access. Several posts walked down a staircase, but none said whether there is a threshold, a lift, or room for a stroller or wheelchair. That means nobody wrote about it, not that it is absent.

Nine posts said the restroom is inside the restaurant; some mention hair ties, floss, hand soap and towels there.

Three posts said from their own visit that the restrooms are separated by gender; other posts only copied this from the listing, and we did not count those.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • We don't know about waits: no post said it queued. One found free tables around 5 p.m. and a nearly full room half an hour later, another found it almost full at 7 p.m. on a Saturday, and one merely guessed there might be a wait.
  • Company is spread out: going as a couple was most common, at six posts, with others going with friends, family or groups of colleagues.
  • Opening hours are only copied from listings. Twenty-one posts give Monday to Saturday, 11:00 to 22:30, closed Sunday, nearly all as pasted info lines. The three paid posts say 11:00 to 23:00, and others give 10:00 to 22:00, an 11:30 opening, or a 15:00 to 17:00 break. Two posts said in their own words that there is no afternoon break. Check before you go.
  • Prices are from the menu in early October 2026: gamjatang 33,000 won medium, 39,000 large, 48,000 extra-large, 11,000 for one; two people having a medium with an add-in and fried rice spent around 39,000 won. The place had just opened, so we don't know whether prices have changed since.
  • Most posts list the phone number as 02-737-5779; one wrote 02-737-5579. That reservations, groups and private hire are possible is copied from the listing; no post actually booked by phone.
  • The three posts that disclosed paid advertising, all from 3 October, follow one template: hours of 11:00 to 23:00, six numbered sections, braise then hot pot, and no second round elsewhere. The other posts also repeat the same phrases — 313 m from exit 4, the hanok-style gate on the left of the Point23 building, insisting on domestic ingredients — so sponsored visits may be mixed in, but since the posts don't say so we left them as undisclosed.
