Soup and riceKorean

Ibokhui Haejang Jongno Jigyeongjeom

이복희해장 종로직영점 Lee Bok-hui is a woman's name — the posts say the house carries on a grandmother's cooking from fifty years ago — and haejang is Korean for soothing a hangover, as in haejangguk, the hangover soup; jigyeongjeom means a company-run branch.

A hangover-soup and boiled-beef house on two floors at 385 Samil-daero, between Jonggak and Jongno 3-ga stations. Of 28 posts by people who went, 19 had the hanpan suyuk jeongol (₩39,000): beef shank and tendon brought in a shallow pot, broth poured in at the table, and — ten posts describe this — porridge (₩3,000) cooked in what's left. Eleven had the house soup, hanu bokhui haejangguk (₩11,000). You order on a tablet or kiosk at the table. We read 31 posts from 15 August to 18 October 2026, 28 of them first-hand; 22 of the 31 went up in the single week of 12–18 October.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait in the evening. Sixteen posts waited; one walked straight in (a weekday at 5:30 pm). The numbers they give: 36 parties and 45 minutes on a weekday evening, 11 parties and about 20 minutes at 7 pm, sixth in line at 6:30 and seated at 6:55, 30 minutes, and 12 parties and 45 minutes at 7:30 on a Sunday. One post saw an 80-minute estimate on the way out. You can register at the CatchTable kiosk by the door or join remotely through the app — one post did so en route and was seated two minutes after arriving. One post found the ground floor full right after the 11 am opening, too.
  2. Four posts booked ahead. Two say Naver reservations only run until 6 pm; after that it's the CatchTable queue. Four mention chairs outside to wait on. One post copied the door notice: your whole party must be present, and there is only one table for five.
  3. Two posts describe the walk themselves: very close to Jonggak Station exit 4 and easy from Jongno 3-ga exit 15, and — from the underground mall's exit 12 — straight on until the Aladdin used-book shop and Daiso, then round the corner. The '460 m from exit 4' in other posts is copied from the listing.
  4. Among posts that say who they went with: friends five, family four (one with two children), a partner or spouse three. Two posts noticed people dining alone, and others saw plenty of office groups.
3 more
  1. Nine posts ordered on a tablet or kiosk at the table. Minced garlic and chopped chilli are free add-ons there, and you can ask for broth refills the same way; one post notes you pay on the way out.
  2. Six posts found the portions generous, one found them small — two women needed a second dish. Five posts said the beef had no gamey smell.
  3. Two posts found something too hot — the soft-tofu soup and the spicy tendon stir-fry. Both posts that ordered the stir-fry were disappointed. Several suggest asking for extra chilli and garlic if you want more heat.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 28 posts

There's no parking of its own. One post drove and parked at another building. Several posts copy the shop's notice pointing to the paid lot in the Dongil Building next door (₩3,000 per 30 minutes) and Signature Tower; one copied that parking isn't validated.

Where it is

Map showing where Ibokhui Haejang Jongno Jigyeongjeom is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Two posts describe the walk themselves: very close to Jonggak Station exit 4 and easy from Jongno 3-ga exit 15, and — from the underground mall's exit 12 — straight on until the Aladdin used-book shop and Daiso, then round the corner. The '460 m from exit 4' in other posts is copied from the listing.

Getting inside

Second floor15 of 28 posts
Toilet inside6 of 28 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 28 posts

There is an upstairs. Fifteen posts were seated on or went up to the second floor, which has partitioned tables, a couple of sofa booths and windows onto trees. One post says the ground floor is mostly four-seat tables and the upper floor a bit roomier, with more group seating.

Nobody said whether a wheelchair or pram gets in, or whether there's a step at the door — we don't know. One post warns the stairs to the second floor are steep; nobody mentions a passenger lift (the 'elevator' one post describes carries food between the two kitchens).

The toilets are inside, on the second floor — all six posts that mention them say so. One post saw separate men's and women's rooms there; two others only copied that from a listing. If you sit downstairs, you climb the stairs to use them.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 31 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Split one to one on noise: one post found it easy to talk, another couldn't hear the person opposite.
  • Posts copying the menu agree on prices — ₩39,000 for the hot pot, ₩11,000–12,000 for soups, ₩6,000 for soju. Two give a bill: ₩30,000 for two soups, a bottle of soju and a soft drink; ₩65,000 for the hot pot, porridge, a soup and two bottles of soju. On value, one post found the soups cheap but the hot pots pricey.
  • Twenty-five posts give opening hours, all copied from the listing: 24 say 11:00–23:30 daily, one says 23:00. One post that went mid-afternoon confirmed there's no break. Three copied 'open every day'.
  • Fourteen posts list the phone number as 0507-1371-2498; one gives 02-725-2498. No one says whether you can book by phone — those who booked used Naver or CatchTable.
  • Most posts follow the same template as sponsored copy: 22 appeared in one week (12–18 October), repeating the shop's lines about a grandmother's fifty-year-old recipe and cauldron-simmered broth, plus the review-for-ice-cream offer, in nearly the same order. One post discloses sponsorship, two say they paid their own way, the rest say nothing. Claims about top-grade Hanwoo beef, 48-hour broth and celebrity visitors come from the shop, so we don't rely on them.
