Sotnaeeum

솥내음 Sotnaeeum joins sot, the iron pot rice is cooked in, with naeeum, a smell — the scent of rice cooked in a pot, which is how every bowl here is made and served.

Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →

A pot-rice restaurant on the second floor of a building in the lane by exit 8 of Sinsa station. There are around twenty single-serving pots, from aubergine at 11,000 won to the assorted marinated-seafood pot at 25,000 won. Each pot comes as a set with salad, soup, kimchi, laver and side dishes matched to the topping; you scoop the rice into a bowl, pour buckwheat tea into the empty pot, and finish with the scorched-rice broth. The most-ordered pots were eel (19,900 won, 17 posts) and steak (17,900 won, 12 posts). Six writers came with friends, four with family, three with a partner. We read 28 posts written between 2 and 15 October 2026; one was about the Banpo bus-terminal branch and was set aside, leaving 27 visits to this branch. One post says it opened at the end of July 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Fifteen posts describe a separate waiting area by the entrance. Twelve mention comics to read (one names One Piece), and several list sweets, hair ties, fabric deodoriser and stain remover. One writer noted the waiting seats are a soft sofa rather than hard chairs; another mentioned a phone charger.
  2. Nineteen posts mention the review offer: write a review and choose two marinated shrimp, two chicken-skin dumplings, a taster of sikhye or a can of soda. Much of the dumplings (16 posts) and shrimp (15 posts) that writers ate came this way.
  3. Eleven posts say free cinnamon punch is set out for diners after the meal — one describes it chilled by the exit door, made that day. Many also note a pot of extra scorched-rice pieces and seasoning soy sauce on every table.
  4. Thirteen posts say you order on a device at the table — six call it a kiosk, seven a tablet or table-order screen. Two mention the menu and eating guide in several languages, and three saw foreign diners.
2 more
  1. Twenty posts say it is a short walk from Sinsa station — most give one to three minutes from exit 8, one said under five.
  2. Six posts say the seasoning is not salty; one found it slightly bland and added the table sauce, and one parent said it was mild enough for her children.

Posts saying you cannot3 of 27 posts

Three posts say parking is difficult, and a few more copy a "no parking" line. One suggests prepaying a nearby public lot through an app — 1,800 won an hour — and walking five to ten minutes.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Second floor17 of 27 posts
Toilet inside5 of 27 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 27 posts

Seventeen writers note the restaurant is up on the second floor. Several mention a menu board at the ground-floor entrance so you can check prices first, and three say they climbed the stairs — one noticed calorie counts printed on the steps.

No one says whether there is a lift, a step at the door, or room for a wheelchair or pushchair. Three writers took the stairs to the second floor; that is all we know.

Five writers say the toilet is inside the restaurant; one says there are separate men's and women's toilets (another post's mention came from a copied info block, so we did not count it).

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • No post describes actually queuing. The phrase "a place with a waiting line" recurs, but as hearsay or promotional wording. Three writers walked straight in at weekend opening, at 2 pm on a holiday, or just after the break; two booked through Naver. A copied notice says weekday 11:30–13:30 is walk-in queue only.
  • All opening hours were copied from listings: 19 posts give 10:30–21:10 daily and 3 give 10:30–21:30; last order is 20:30 in 15 posts and 20:00 in 2. Every post that mentions a break gives 15:00–16:30. One post says there is no regular closing day.
  • Prices vary slightly between posts: salmon pot 16,900 won in three posts and 15,900 in one, abalone pot 15,900 in two and 16,900 in one, cheese potato pancake 17,900 in three and 17,700 in one. Three writers called it good value; none called it expensive.
  • All 28 posts appeared within two weeks, and the same phrases recur — "fresh ingredients prepared daily" in 14, "the most pot-rice choices of any such restaurant" in 8, "various surprise events" in 6. One post discloses a sponsored visit, one says the writer paid; the rest say nothing. We treat these phrases as the restaurant's own claims, not evidence.
  • Two posts found the table scorched-rice pieces hard; in one, the writer's mother cracked a molar on them even after soaking.
  • Two posts say it is a franchise branch, and several writers had eaten at other branches (Magok, COEX, Jongno, Banpo). Twelve posts give the phone number 0507-1385-8212; the note that Naver booking is available was copied from listings.
