Star Samarkand

스타사마르칸트 Seuta Samareukanteu Samarkand is the ancient Silk Road city of Uzbekistan; two posts say 'Star' was added to the name to set the house apart from later shops that copied the Samarkand name.

Star Samarkand is an Uzbek restaurant on Euljiro 42-gil, the Central Asian street behind Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station. Samsa and flatbread come out of a tandoor at the door; inside, people order shashlik skewers, plov and soups such as borscht from a tablet at the table and share them. The prices posts give most often are 8,500 won a skewer, 12,500 won for plov, 10,900 won for soups and 4,000 won for samsa; meals for two were recorded at 36,000, 40,400 and 50,000 won. Two posts say no alcohol is sold. We read 30 posts from 23 June to 14 October 2026, 26 of them from people who ate here; one was about a different shop across the street and was set aside. The registered address is Euljiro 42-gil 12, but every post gives number 14.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. The shashlik is slow. Nine posts say food took a long time, and all nine point to the skewers — one says they arrived when everyone was nearly full, another advises ordering them first. One post timed its photos: borscht at 1:44, shashlik at 1:51, plov at 2:09.
  2. Weekend lunch means a line. Seven posts waited, and the times they wrote down are 5, 5, 15, 20 and 20 minutes. One arrived at 1:13 on a Saturday and got handwritten ticket number 22; another, at 2pm on a weekend, found there was no list — you just stand in line. The one post that came at 11:20 on a weekday walked straight in. Two posts say overflow goes to an annex next door.
  3. Carrot kimchi comes free. Nine posts got something on the house — eight the shredded carrot salad with pickled onion, one a round of bread. One post had the carrot refilled. One post ordered it separately and paid 6,000 won.
  4. Shashlik is priced per skewer, but five posts say the minimum order is two; all five add that the menu allows a single skewer for solo diners.
3 more
  1. Fourteen posts comment on whether the lamb smells gamey; twelve say it doesn't. One enjoyed a noticeable lamb aroma, and one found a faint one that didn't bother them.
  2. Thirteen posts note that many of the diners are Central Asian; one put it at about 80 percent foreigners, and another watched locals lunching on samsa by hand.
  3. Ordering is on a tablet at each table, according to seven posts, with photos for every dish. One post found the tablet out of order on a first visit and used the paper menu instead.

The most ordered dish is syasyllik (샤슬릭) — 25 of 26 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Parking

Posts saying you cannot4 of 26 posts

There is no parking of its own. Four posts say so, and the three that drove used the DDP car park, the Hyundai Outlet and a nearby mechanical garage, then walked. 'No parking' also appears in many copied info blocks.

Where it is

Map showing where Star Samarkand is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

3 posts say it is walkable from the station.

Getting inside

No post describes which floor the dining room is on or any stairs; only the '1st floor' in the address. That means nobody wrote it down, not that there is nothing to know.

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. We don't know.

No post says where the toilet is. 'Separate men's and women's toilets' appears only in one copied info block, which we don't count.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices vary a little between posts. Five give soups at 10,900 won, including menu photos from July and August 2026, yet two posts from September and October list borscht or lagman at 9,900 won, and one of them lamb shashlik at 7,000 won and cola at 2,000 won. Neither says when they went, so we can't tell whether prices rose or fell. One post also notes the Naver menu is about 1,000 won off from the shop's.
  • All opening hours are copied from map listings. Eighteen posts give 10am to 10pm and nineteen say closed every other Tuesday, but none checked for themselves. Two give 11pm closing, one 11pm on Saturdays only, one 8pm, and one says closed every Tuesday.
  • Two phone numbers circulate: ten posts give 0507-1406-7834 and three give 02-2279-7780. On reservations, one post saw a Naver booking sticker on the door and reserved-seat signs inside, and another found the back tables full of reservations.
  • Comfort is split: one post found the cushioned seats comfortable, another found the chairs too upright. Seven posts call the room spacious.
  • One post from June 2026 says the place was remodelled and is now much brighter and cleaner; it doesn't say when the work was done.
