Korean

Doseong Dakhanmari

도성 닭한마리 Doseong is the Korean word for a walled capital (the word used for Seoul's old city wall), and dakhanmari means 'one whole chicken', the boiled-chicken hotpot the house serves; the posts do not explain why the name was chosen.

Doseong Dakhanmari is a whole-chicken hotpot restaurant on the second floor of a building on Euljiro 43-gil, near Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station. One chicken for two costs 32,000 won; diners add leek or ginseng-and-jujube to the pot, simmer it at the table, and finish with noodles or glutinous-rice porridge. We read 30 posts dated 6 September to 17 October 2026: 15 by people who ate there, 10 that only describe the place, and 5 that turned out to be about something else.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The house does the cooking. Of the 15 visitors, 11 wrote that staff or the owner cut the chicken with scissors and timed when each add-on went in; two said the cutting was done at a neighbouring table to keep the heat away. One post recorded the owner's sauce ratio: half a spoon of garlic, one of chili paste, a third of mustard, one of vinegar and seven of house soy sauce.
  2. Fourteen of the 15 visitors called the staff friendly, and what they meant was mostly instruction: eat the legs last because they cook slowest, pull the leek out early like shabu-shabu. Some also mentioned broth being topped up without asking.
  3. Nine of the 15 visitors described the room as clean and three as spacious, several contrasting it with the crowded chicken alley at Jongno 5-ga. Two said the seating is four-person tables that can be pushed together; one noticed storage for bags inside the chairs.
  4. Four visitors noticed many foreign diners; one said most of the room was foreign tourists and that the menu comes in Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese.

Parking

Posts saying you cannot1 of 15 posts

No one drove there. One visitor said you can't park in front and need a nearby public or paid lot; two other posts list 'no parking' in a copied info block, which we did not count.

Getting inside

Second floor9 of 15 posts
Lift to the floor5 of 15 posts
Toilet inside1 of 15 posts
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 1 (of 15 posts read)

The restaurant is upstairs: nine visitors described going up to the second floor, five of them mentioned a lift, and two said there are both stairs and a lift.

We don't know whether a wheelchair can get in. 'Wheelchair accessible' appears only in five near-identical promotional posts, never in a visitor's account, and nobody mentioned steps at the building entrance or the lift. That is a gap in the record, not evidence either way.

Only one post mentioned the toilet: inside the restaurant, shared by men and women. No one else wrote about it.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 10 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-145 posts in one day
2026-10-073 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Four visitors said it is about a three-minute walk from Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station; the exit numbers (13 or 14) mostly come from copied listings. No one described getting there by bus.
  • Nobody reported waiting. One visitor saw the tables fill again soon after a lull, and another advised that peak hours might mean a queue, but neither actually waited. We have no wait times.
  • Only three visitors said who they came with, all family: a mother, a younger sibling, a sister. None mentioned friends, colleagues or eating alone. Nearly every post carries a 'team dinner' hashtag, but no one described coming for one.
  • All 14 visitors who listed opening hours gave the same times: daily 10:30 to 23:00, last order 22:00. Most copied this from the shop's listing, and no one mentioned a closing day. One post wrote '10:30–11:00', apparently a typo.
  • Prices come from October 2026 posts: about 16,000 won a head (32,000 for two), most add-ons 2,000, ginseng-jujube 4,000, porridge 3,000. Two people adding leek, noodles and porridge would pay around 39,000 won. Nobody called it expensive or cheap.
  • Many posts gave the same phone number, 0507-1345-7701. One visitor recommended booking for groups or peak times, and another post lists 'reservations available' in a copied info block; nobody said they actually booked.
  • Almost every post repeats that the business ran for 30 years in the Jongno 5-ga chicken alley before moving here. That is the shop's own story; no post names the old shop or says when it moved. All 30 posts we read are about the current location.
  • Most posts cluster in the first half of October 2026 and share hashtags and phrasing. Five promotional posts repeat the same lines in the same order, from the 'nobody eats here only once' slogan to the lift, the kimchi and the three nearby Olive Young stores; one ends 'we will always be ready and waiting for you', which reads like the shop's own copy. One post disclosed sponsorship and one said the author paid. We counted only what writers said they experienced.
