Wonjo Manseon Hof
원조만선호프 The Nogari Alley beer house at 14 Chungmu-ro 9-gil where the two indoor floors sit half empty while everyone climbs the stairs to the rooftop, and a grilled baby pollack still costs 2,000 won.

Wonjo Manseon Hof is a beer house in the dried-pollock lane, a few minutes' walk from Euljiro 3-ga station. The licence is filed under a different name, but the sign and the customers say Wonjo Manseon Hof. The first and second floors are indoors and a staircase leads to a rooftop — and the rooftop is the only part that fills up. A dried pollock or a dried yellow pollock costs ₩2,000; fried chicken under a garlic sauce is sold by the half bird; a large screen plays baseball and old pop performances. The posts we read run from July 2025 to September 2026.

What sets it apart
- The roof is the real shop. Several writers describe empty tables downstairs and a packed roof — one found "hardly anyone on the first or second floor, and then upstairs, an absolute crowd"; another writes that "the yard and the rooftop are heaving while the indoor rooms sit empty." The staff send arrivals up: three writers went meaning to sit at a street table and were pointed to the roof instead. The rooftop is split in two, and the half with the big screen is the side people want, according to one account.
- The wait runs to a clock. Writers who arrived at four or half past five found plenty of space; somewhere between six and seven it flips — "by half past six it was full and there was a queue for the roof," "from seven the line started." Those who queued put it at around twenty minutes, and one writer found the queue gone after eight as the first-round drinkers left. The line is only for the roof — there are still tables downstairs while it forms.
- The menu card may differ from table to table. A writer who went in April 2026 noticed the card taped to the napkin box did not match the next table's; the staff explained that some cards had not yet been swapped for the new prices. Their bill came out ₩5,000 over, added up on a calculator rather than rung through the till, and they went back to have it fixed — three other tables were doing the same thing that evening. The prices we read back this up: a half bird climbs from the low ten-thousands in spring 2026 to ₩12,000 by autumn.

Parking

Not one writer parked a car. Two mention that the shop has no parking, but one is a bullet in a header block and the other is hearsay — "they say even the public car parks nearby are hard to get into." Since nobody drove, we do not know what parking costs or where you would leave a car. Getting there by train, on the other hand, is well covered: two to eight minutes' walk from exits 3 and 4 at Euljiro 3-ga, and one writer clocks it at 183 metres.

The shop uses three levels of one building. It is registered on the ground floor and you walk in from the street. Above that is an indoor second floor, and another flight of stairs reaches the roof — one writer says the shop "runs from the first floor up to the third-floor rooftop"; another that the climb feels like three storeys. Nobody writes about any way up other than the stairs — the word lift does not appear once in anything we read. One writer warns that at a second-floor window seat, cigarette smoke drifts up from below.
Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pram. Not one of the posts we read contains the words wheelchair, pram, ramp, threshold or step. That is not a no — it is that we do not know. What the posts do show: almost everyone sits on the roof, and the only route up anyone describes is the staircase. One family with children was sent up to the roof, and even they call the way up simply "the stairs."
There are toilets on the roof and on the second floor. One writer found separate men's and women's on the roof and passes on the tip: if the rooftop queue is long, go down to the second floor. Another says that at most outdoor drinking spots the toilet is the worst part, and that having one on the roof spares you the trip down; a third was glad of a smoking area up there too. Against that, two writers say the queue grows after seven in the evening, and one waited fifteen minutes. No writer says anything about how clean they were.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 22 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Which door you walk through is the hardest thing about this place. Four shops in this lane carry the name Manseon Hof: the chain's head shop on Euljiro 13-gil, this one at 14 Chungmuro 9-gil, Manseon Hof 2 at number 12, and Manseon Hof 9 at number 16. One writer paid cash and watched the change fetched from the Manseon next door. And the whelk bar beside it shares this shop's street address exactly — the address alone will not tell them apart. This is the one with the yellow sign and the rooftop.
- The street tables are not always out. A writer who arrived at 5:40 on a weekday evening in July 2025 found none and was thrown by it; another, on a Saturday evening in March 2026, saw tables outside the other shops but none outside this one. Both were sent up to the roof instead. Others did find them: one watched them go out after six, another describes street tables at ground level. No one explains what decides it — one writer wonders aloud whether it is the building site next door.
- Hardly anyone records the opening hours, and the two who do disagree. One post gives noon to midnight, the other noon to three in the morning, every day. The rest write "no hours listed," "nothing given," "ask the shop" — the people who looked could not find them either. Two accounts suggest the afternoon opening is real: one writer arrived at two to find the place already busy, another watched a 2pm baseball game from the first pitch. We could not establish when it closes.
- Not one post declares a sponsorship or a free meal. Eight say outright that they paid; the rest say nothing either way. Two are worth naming: one slips shopping links for tinned whelks and beer kits into the body, and another cites an unsourced statistic — "eight in ten visitors" — while giving a pollock price that matches nobody else's. We counted them as visits and distrusted their numbers. One further post is a straight transcription of the shop's Naver listing, and we took it out of the count.
