Korean

Gobong Samgyetang

고봉삼계탕 Gobong is the Korean word for a bowl heaped above the rim, so the name reads as 'heaping-bowl samgyetang'.

Compiled from 5 blog posts read in fullSources →

A samgyetang restaurant on the second floor of the Art Nouveau Centum building at Myeongdong 7-gil 21, between Euljiro 1-ga station and Myeongdong. The menu centres on sanghwang-mushroom samgyetang (20,000 won) and herbal samgyetang (22,000 won), brought to the table still bubbling in an earthenware pot with a glass of ginseng liquor. We read 8 posts dated 16 September to 8 October 2026; 3 were about the Yeouido or Andong branches or another shop and were set aside, leaving 5 first-hand visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Food comes out fast. Four of the five posts said so - one was surprised how quickly samgyetang arrived, another said it came straight after ordering. One found the side dishes already laid out when they sat down.
  2. Three posts describe a large dining room - a wide hall full of tables, roomy enough for a work dinner. One evening visitor found it quiet enough to take a window seat.
  3. One post noted a sign requiring one dish per adult, so groups need to order one bowl each.
  4. Two posts found the portion generous - one couldn't finish the broth, the other was full after eating it all.

Getting inside

Second floor3 of 5 posts

The restaurant is on the building's second floor. Three posts say so, and two of them describe riding an escalator up from the entrance.

Nobody wrote about steps at the entrance or wheelchair or stroller access, and we don't know whether there is a lift besides the escalator.

We don't know whether the toilet is inside the restaurant. One post's info block lists separate men's and women's toilets, but no one described seeing them.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Prices are consistent across posts (20,000 and 22,000 won). One post called it pricey for lunch; another hesitated over the 20,000-won seafood pancake but felt the size justified it.
  • No post verified the opening hours. Two copied 10:00-21:00 and one copied 09:00-22:00; nobody mentioned closing days or a break.
  • No post mentions queuing. That doesn't mean there is never a wait - simply that nobody wrote about one, including the lunchtime visitors.
  • Only one post was a team lunch and one a family meal with children; nobody went alone or with friends, so we can't say much about who it suits.
  • Only one post gives the phone number (02-756-2300), and none says whether reservations are taken.
