멍석집 A meongseok is a large woven straw mat once spread on the ground to sit on outdoors, and jip means house.

A pork-belly grill house in an alley off Donhwamun-ro, between Jongno 3-ga station and the Ikseon-dong hanok streets. You grill the house's aged pork belly (18,000 won a portion; the house advertises it as aged 80 hours) or the Meongseok set (55,000 won: two portions of belly plus one of pork neck) at your table. Seating is either at tables set out in the alley or inside a hanok whose roof is open to the sky. Kimchi, bean sprouts and lettuce come with the meal, and many posts grabbed green-onion kimchi from the self-serve bar to grill alongside. We read 30 posts dated March to October 2026; 25 describe an actual visit, one of them a disclosed sponsored visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Expect to wait. Seventeen posts mention a queue. The waits they recorded: 3 hours (weekend evening), 3 hours (signed up Friday 5 pm, seated at 8), 2 hours (Saturday 5:30 to 7:30), 1 hour (weekend at 7), about an hour (holiday, 3:06 to 4:04), 50, 40, 40 and 30 minutes. One post was quoted 62 minutes and called in 3. You sign up at a machine by the door or on CatchTable and choose outdoor, indoor or either; one post found 191 parties waiting for the alley tables but only 30 minutes for indoor seats. Two posts walked straight in on a weekday at 4:30 and 5 pm, and both say a line formed by about 6.
- Twenty-one posts describe the alley tables. Counts differ: one says about seven alley spots, another nine or ten; one notes they seat four and are set out from 1 pm. One post chose indoors because the outdoor seats felt cramped, another moved inside when it rained. Several say the open-roofed hanok interior feels half outdoors, and one says no smoke lingered.
- Eighteen posts topped up side dishes at the self-serve bar. Several point out that the green-onion kimchi isn't on the table but is at the bar, worth grilling with the pork; one notes salt and sesame-oil dips are there too. Another says the owner stepped in and made their dipping salt for them.
- The menu says staff will grill the set for you. One post says they did; two say staff were too busy and left the grilling to them.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

We don't know about floors. Photos suggest a single-storey hanok courtyard, but no post mentions floors or stairs.
No one mentions an entrance step or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That means we don't know, not that it is fine. Many posts describe the alley tables as crowded.
Five posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant. Two say there are separate stalls: one describes men's and women's stalls, the other one women-only stall and one shared stall. One poster chose the place partly because its toilet is clean, unusual for this street-seating strip.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
| 2026-10-04 | 2 posts in one day |

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- All the opening hours are copied from info blocks. Posts up to July 2026 say 1 pm to 11:55 pm daily; from late August they say noon, so opening seems to have moved an hour earlier in between. One October post says 1 pm to 11:30 pm and another closes at 11:50. No post mentions a closing day. The 90-minute limit on weekends and holidays is quoted from the house's notice; no one says they were asked to leave.
- Prices mostly agree. Only the pork kimchi stew is split, at 9,000 vs 7,000 won, and one write-up without a visit lists the kimchi fried rice at 6,000 won (visit posts say 7,000). One couple paid 44,000 won for two portions of belly, steamed egg, rice and a soda.
- Nine posts copy the phone number 010-5719-5161, but none says they booked by phone. Every visit post joined the waitlist on site or by app; one says plainly that it was a walk-in waitlist, not a reservation.
