Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Hongdae-Yeonnam
역전포장마차 홍대연남점 Yeokjeon means 'in front of the station' and a pojangmacha is a Korean tent-style street bar; this one sits right by Hongik University Station exit 3, which one blogger noted is why the name fits.
Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →
A retro tent-bar-themed pub in the basement of the Hyosung Hongik Ingan officetel (183 Yanghwa-ro), right at exit 3 of Hongik University Station. You simmer Korean-beef tripe-and-chicken stew, chicken stew or tripe hot pot on a burner at the table, at 24,000 to 36,900 won a pot, and almost every post quoted 2,900 won for a 300cc draft and 3,900 won for soju. Eleven posts mentioned getting a lollipop on the way out. It is one branch of a chain with outlets in Sinchon, Gangnam and Jonggak. We read 30 posts from 3 August 2025 to 15 October 2026; after setting aside 4 about other places and 3 that were not visits, we counted 23 visit reports.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- It is close to the subway: 11 posts said it is easy to reach by train, and four of those said it connects underground with the exit 3 side of Hongik University Station, so you never have to go outside.
- Big portions were the most frequent remark, in 17 of 23 visits; several said two people were full on the small size of the stew.
- You pick a heat level; several posts described level 1 as about as hot as Shin Ramyun and level 2 as hotter. Twelve posts called it spicy and two said it was not; one person who ordered level 1 found it hotter than expected.
- A free snack comes with your order: nine posts mentioned sweet puffed-rice crackers (and pickled radish), and one went back for more twice.
3 more
- Ordering is on a tablet at the table, according to six posts; one noted you choose the heat level and add-ons there and can call staff with a button.
- Evenings get busy. Three posts mentioned a wait and two mentioned one but walked straight in (at 5 pm on a weekday, or taking the last table). Four posts said you can book, three of them having reserved ahead by phone or Naver. No one gave a wait time in minutes.
- It is not quiet: four posts called it loud, one saying it got really noisy once student groups filled it around 9 pm. One post found the music volume moderate.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | 13 of 23 posts |

| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 3 (of 23 posts read) |
| Separate restrooms | 2 of 23 posts |
It is one floor down. Thirteen of the 23 visits described going down stairs or an underground passage to get in; one mentions an outside staircase from the street, marked by a big sign and an old-cinema-style mural.
We don't know whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in; nobody said. From the street you go down stairs, and one post took an escalator down from the station side, but no one mentioned a lift or a step at the door.
The toilets are not inside the bar. All three posts that described them said you go out the door (or the back door) to the officetel corridor; two of them said men's and women's are separate.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 26 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Twelve posts said the tripe had no off smell, but the same sentence about the house cleaning and boiling its own tripe recurs across many posts, so some are repeating the shop's copy. We did not count the in-house prep claim itself.
- Many posts follow one script: the same lines about TV appearances, a first-round meal or a light second round, and suiting group dinners recur in more than ten posts in nearly the same order. One post disclosed sponsorship, two said they got a meal voucher or free dishes, two said they paid, and the rest said nothing. We did not rely on the TV claims and counted only the six posts that saw the celebrity signatures and photos on the walls.
- Nineteen posts gave opening hours, all opening at 4 pm and closing at midnight Sunday to Thursday. For Friday, 14 say 2 am and two posts from August 2026 say 1 am; Saturday is 2 am. Three posts said it never closes for a day off. Nearly all of this is copied info blocks.
- Fifteen posts said it was not expensive; one found the drinks cheap but the dried pollack pricey for its size. Some prices have gone up: extra jjolmyeon noodles went from 1,500 won (September 2025) and 2,000 won (October 2025) to 3,000 won (September 2026), and the corn cheese from 6,900 won (August 2025) to 8,900 won (September 2026). The signature stew is 36,900 won bone-in and 32,900 to 33,900 won boneless depending on size. One group of six ordered 14 items for 209,400 won.
- It is a chain; two posts said they had eaten at other branches. The claim that this is the original branch was hearsay and we did not count it.
- Eight posts gave the same phone number, 0507-1376-3340; one listed 02-322-3336 for reservations. One group phoned to book 30 minutes ahead and found the table already set.
