Cafe
oscar the coffee booth
오스카 커피부스 Oseuka Keopibuseu Named after the Oscars — one post heard from the owners, both trained actors, that the name wishes guests their own 'Oscar' dream, and 'booth' is the box-like coffee bar at the counter.

Oscar Coffee Booth is a café on the second floor of the Dongmyeong Building at 187 Donggyo-ro, a short walk from Exit 1 of Hongik University Station. It serves hand-brewed filter coffee from a choice of beans alongside desserts such as sweet-pumpkin pudding and cheesecakes; menus copied in 2026 posts list an americano at 5,000 won, the pumpkin pudding at 7,500 and filter coffee from 7,500 to 14,000. We read thirty posts from December 2024 to October 2026, twenty-four of them by people who actually went. Wood interiors and big windows onto the street trees come up most; eight visitors ordered the pumpkin pudding and six the signature "Pistachio!".

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Sixteen posts mention the view out of the windows — plane trees seen through second-floor glass and a lot of daylight. One describes the window seats as a row facing a sill that serves as the table.
- Fourteen posts call it quiet. One says so many people were working at the big central table that you end up lowering your voice too; another says it suits going alone but isn't a place for loud chatter. One post found it crowded and noisy yet thought it would be good for reading on a weekday.
- Five posts found the seating uncomfortable and none found it comfortable: stools without backrests everywhere except the central table, window seats with a low table and high chairs, and sill seats where you have to twist round to eat.
- Seven posts say the room is small, two say it feels open. One counted about fourteen tables, all for two except a single four-seater, and suggested coming in pairs at most.
2 more
- Four posts note a posted two-hour limit on weekends and holidays, after which you are expected to order again. One group that overstayed says nobody asked them to leave, but they ordered another drink anyway.
- Six posts mention shelves of film scripts and screenplay books. One heard from the owners that both trained as actors and that the name comes from the Academy Awards — hearsay, so we did not count it.

Parking

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Second floor | 9 of 23 posts |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 1 (of 23 posts read) |
| Separate restrooms | yes 0 · no 1 (of 23 posts read) |
Nine posts note the café is up on the second floor, and several say they nearly walked past because the sign is small. Look for "oscar" lettered on the second-floor glass and the standing sign at the building door.
No one wrote about steps at the door, a lift, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. The café is on the second floor and two posts mention taking the stairs. That doesn't mean there is no lift — only that nobody said.
Only one post describes the toilet: outside the café next to the entrance, behind a keypad code, a single unisex room. No other post confirms it.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
| 2026-08-21 | 2 posts in one day |
|---|
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Opening hours have changed. Four posts from December 2024 to October 2025 list Monday 11:00–20:00, Tuesday–Friday 11:00–22:00 and weekends 12:00–22:00; posts from January 2026 mostly list weekdays 11:00–20:00 and weekends 12:00–21:00. All are copied from listings. Two October 2026 posts differ — one says weekends open at 11, another says closed Mondays. Check the café's Instagram before going.
- Prices seem to have risen slightly between July and September 2026: the July menu shows vanilla latte 6,000, matcha latte 6,000 and strawberry matcha 7,000 won; a September post shows 6,500, 6,500 and 7,500. The americano (5,000) and pumpkin pudding (7,500) are the same in both.
- Only one post saw a queue: plenty of seats on arrival, full with people waiting by the time they left. One other says latecomers won't find a seat, and another arrived at weekend opening and had room.
- Six posts give the phone number 0507-1393-5986, all within copied listing blocks. No visitor said whether table reservations are taken.
- One post mentions barista awards displayed in the shop, and two list posts name the café's barista among Korea Brewers Cup 2027 finalists; these are the shop's own display and copied lists, so we did not count them.
- Two posts from 4 and 10 October 2026 describe the same three drinks and two cheesecakes in the same order and wording, so we treated them as templated copy and did not count them as visits. A March 2026 post reads as a generic write-up (it gives hours of 10:00–22:00, matching no other post) and was not counted. One December 2024 post discloses sponsorship.
