Oseong Bangatgan Tteokbokki

오성방앗간떡볶이 Bangatgan is a neighborhood rice mill, where rice cakes were traditionally pounded — the shop plays on it with a retro mill theme; no post explains 'Oseong'.

Compiled from 29 blog posts read in fullSources →

A rapid-cook tteokbokki shop on the second floor at 232 Donggyo-ro, Mapo-gu, right at the head of the Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Each table has a built-in induction ring; staff bring the loaded pot and a five-minute timer, and when it rings you add the ramen and jjolmyeon and simmer about three more minutes. The plain version is 14,000 won for two, the assorted (beef intestine, brisket, grilled chicken) 28,000 won, and from September 2026 most posts ordered the new whole-intestine version at 27,000 won. We read 30 posts dated May 18, 2025 to October 8, 2026; 29 describe an actual visit. The room leans hard on a retro rice-mill theme — posts keep mentioning the payphone at the door, the mirror ball and the figurine shelves.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You order by scanning the QR code on the table — fifteen posts say so. Several add that you pay at the counter on the way out, and more than one mentions grabbing an old-fashioned hard candy as you leave. One post notes the cooking instructions are posted in several languages for foreign guests.
  2. Fifteen posts say the portions are large — one wondered whether it could really be a two-person serving, and a group of three noticed every other table leaving food behind. One post disagreed: in its assorted pot the intestine and rice cakes were sparse and there were only three or four pieces of chicken. One more called the amount just right.
  3. Six posts mention the receipt-review event: pay first, post a Naver receipt review, and you get a laver rice ball, fried rice or a Coolpis drink.
  4. Four posts remark on the number of foreign customers — one put it at half the room, another at most of it.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Getting inside

Second floor17 of 29 posts
Toilet inside2 of 29 posts

The shop is on the second floor, up an outside staircase — seventeen posts describe climbing up. Several mention the menu boards by the stairs next to the 7-Eleven so you can choose before going up; one noted those boards show no prices.

No post says whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in or whether there is a lift — that is unknown, not a no. Two posts do warn that the outside stairs to the second floor are steep and to take them carefully.

Two posts say the restroom is inside the shop, one adding it is a single stall. 'Separate men's and women's' appears only in copied listing text, so we haven't confirmed it.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Heat is contested: five posts call it spicy, one says not, eight mention it without settling. A May 2025 post couldn't choose a level and found it far too hot; from December 2025 posts pick mild, medium or hot, describing medium as about Shin Ramyun level. The garlic-soy version was described as barely spicy.
  • Waiting splits one to three: a September 2026 post says a line formed right after they sat down, while three posts — weekday 6–7 pm, Saturday 4:30 pm, just before the dinner peak — walked straight in. One post mentions yellow waiting chairs at the top of the stairs.
  • Opening hours changed over time. Posts from July 2026 on almost all give Tue–Sun 11:30–21:00, last order 20:20, closed Mondays — mostly copied listing text. May 2025 posts said no closing day; December 2025 to May 2026 posts said closed every other Monday. One July 2026 post alone lists Monday hours of 11:30–16:00. Check before going.
  • Six posts found the prices fair — around 10,000 won a head — and one found the 28,000-won assorted pot steep for tteokbokki. The plain 14,000-won and assorted 28,000-won prices are unchanged since May 2025. One pair's bill for a pot, a side and two drinks came to 25,500 won (December 2025).
  • Posts from 2026 give the phone as 0507-1326-4921; three May 2025 posts give 02-6953-4921. One post mentions a coupon for booking through Naver, but no one wrote that they booked.
  • How the rice course is served has changed. In May 2025 staff fried rice in your leftover sauce; from September 2026 posts say the induction tables can't do that, so the rice comes separately as stone-pot dishes.
  • Seven posts from September–October 2026 share the same order (whole-intestine pot, chicken-neck combo, corn-cheese rice, hallabong ade) and the same cooking-steps wording, and none says whether it was sponsored. They may be commissioned, so weigh their praise accordingly. Ten posts state they paid their own way.
