Izakaya Musei

이자카야 무세이 Musei (夢成) is explained by the house as 'dreams surely come true' — 夢 dream, 成 to be fulfilled; an izakaya is a Japanese-style pub.

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

An izakaya open since 2010 on the second and third floors of a building on Eoulmadang-ro, right by Hongik University Station, above a Yeokjeon Udon shop. The usual order is the mixed sashimi platter (43,000 won) and conger-eel tempura (25,000 won) with fruit sours (8,000 won), which comes to the low 80,000s for two. We read 30 posts from March 2025 to October 2026; 23 describe an actual visit, and 21 of those fall between 14 September and 14 October 2026. The other 7 only repeat listing information or promotional copy, so we did not count them.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Sixteen posts called the fried food crisp, fourteen of them about the conger-eel tempura. One said it did not go soggy as it cooled, another that it was still crisp outside and tender inside after going cold, and several said the eel's fine bones were not a bother. One post instead described the batter as thin and soft.
  2. Nine posts found it cramped and one found it roomy. They described a small interior, tables close to the next one, and two-tops that filled up fast with dishes. One post said it was fairly spacious.
  3. Eleven posts described the walk from the station: two to five minutes from exit 9 of Hongik University Station, or three from exit 8. The large sign on the Red Road busking street makes it easy to find.
  4. Among posts that said who they came with, friends lead with eight, plus one couple and one solo diner. The solo diner could not finish the platter and tempura and said the amount suits two.
3 more
  1. Six posts mention a Naver receipt-review offer: write a review and get mochi tofu or yuzu sorbet. Two of them said it does not apply Friday to Sunday.
  2. Six posts ordered on a tablet at the table. Posts also note a free starter of zha cai.
  3. Three posts said that when people are waiting, tables are limited to two and a half hours. There is a sign-up sheet at the second-floor entrance.

Where it is

Map showing where Izakaya Musei is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Eleven posts described the walk from the station: two to five minutes from exit 9 of Hongik University Station, or three from exit 8. The large sign on the Red Road busking street makes it easy to find.

The ground floor is another shop; the izakaya is on the second and third floors. Seventeen posts said they sat upstairs. Several said the second floor has tables for two and four and the third mostly tables for four, and one counted the second floor as three four-tops and three two-tops, about 18 seats. The kitchen is on the second floor, so food is carried up to the third. The '2nd to 4th floor' line comes from the shop's own description; no one wrote about sitting on a fourth floor.

Five posts said you reach the restaurant by stairs, and one warned that people who struggle with stairs may find it hard. No post mentioned a lift or ramp; that means nobody wrote about one, not that there is none.

Three posts said the restroom is inside, on the stairs between the second and third floors, and one said it was kept clean.

One visit post said the restrooms are separate for men and women, but listing information copied in another post says shared, so this is unsettled.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post reported waiting; two said they walked straight in. Others wrote that the second floor filled up around 7 pm or that they got the last table on a weekday evening, so a later arrival may mean a wait. Some posts recommended booking through Naver.
  • Opening hours appear in 19 visit posts, almost all copied from the listing. Eleven agree: Monday to Thursday 5 pm to 3 am, Friday and Saturday 4 pm to 4 am, Sunday 4 pm to 3 am. Four have Sunday running to 4 am, two have Friday and Saturday opening at 5 pm, and one each gives a 3 am close on weekends or a 4 pm weekday opening. Most say it is open every day of the year.
  • Prices from September 2026: mixed sashimi 43,000 won, conger-eel tempura 25,000 won (27,000 in two posts), sours 8,000 won. One pair paid 85,000 won for the platter, the tempura and two drinks. Listings copied from 2025 showed the platter at 38,000 and 39,000 won, so the price rose during 2026. Four posts said it was not expensive.
  • Eight posts list the phone number as 0507-1357-8174; two promotional posts give 02-333-8174. Several say bookings go through Naver, and one copied info box limits bookings to 5–7 pm.
  • All 17 posts from 14 September to 3 October 2026 ordered the same sashimi-and-tempura pair and repeat the shop's own lines ('26 years of experience', 'sixteenth year') and hashtags. Only one discloses sponsorship and one says the food was provided; the rest say nothing, so they may come from the same campaign. Claims like daily dawn deliveries, salmon flown in from Norway and a famous Japanese chef are the shop's own words, and we did not rely on them.
