Misseu Jokbal Hongdae Bonjeom
미쓰족발 홍대본점 Braised pig's trotters under a heap of minced garlic, a minute from exit 9 at Hongik University Station
Data as of · Published ·
Miss Jokbal's Hongdae flagship sits a minute or two on foot from exit 9 at Hongik University Station, on the ground floor at 123-1 Eoulmadang-ro. The shop also holds a basement room in the building next door, and that is where you are sent when the ground floor fills. The house dish is maneul jokbal — the braised pig's trotter under a heap of minced garlic sauce — and any main brings a hot kimchi-and-beansprout noodle pot and a large plate of salad at no charge. Open 12:30 to midnight every day, last order at 23:00; one writer records no weekly closing day. Three posts date the shop's opening to 2012, and all three went up on the same day. The posts we read run from October 2025 to September 2026. Three of the twenty-four we confirmed were not written by anyone who ate here, so they are out of the denominator — all three are round-up lists, and one still carries its template's leftover markup. Two further posts turned out to be about the Myeongdong branch, a different restaurant with the same name.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- One price here buys three dishes. Order a main and a pot of kimchi-and-beansprout broth comes to the table on a burner, with the noodles handed over separately to drop in yourself, plus a large plate of salad. No post anywhere attaches a price to either. Eight writers reach for the broth when the trotter starts to cloy; two wish they could simply buy these on their own — one means the noodles, one the salad. Three use the salad leaves in place of wrapping greens.
- An unusual number of writers remark that most of the room is foreign. One puts it at nine in ten and says she heard no Korean; another says every table but hers; a third counts outward — the next table, and the next, and the next. One found the basement floor staffed by a foreign worker, and one says the queue outside was almost entirely tourists. Two break the crowd down into Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian guests, and one writer found the Chinese contingent loud enough to put her off her meal. A returning customer wonders aloud when the place became a tour stop.
- There is a line, but it moves. One writer waited about half an hour on a weekend and credits the size of the room for getting in quickly; another describes the paper taped up outside where you write your name. One found every table taken at five on a Monday evening, and one could not photograph the room because nothing was empty that early. No post says whether booking ahead gets you past the queue.

Getting there

Getting inside

It is a ground-floor shop with two rooms. Two writers mention how easy it is to find, right on the main Hongdae street at street level; two others record a second room — a basement in the building next door. When the ground floor fills, you go down there: one writer skipped most of the queue that way. The basement holds about ten tables, small but clean, and one writer's advice is blunt — if close quarters bother you, wait a little and take a table upstairs instead. Another thinks it would do for a large booking.
Nobody looked at the doorway. In twenty-one posts, not one writer reports with their own eyes whether a wheelchair or a stroller can get in. One did read a notice the shop itself puts up, offering to move a wheelchair inside — and in the same breath admits she never saw it happen while she ate. So we do not count it: what a restaurant writes on its wall and what someone has actually done are different things. Whether there is a step at the door, whether the ground-floor entrance is level, whether there is any way down to the basement room other than the stairs — we do not know.
Two accounts of the toilet disagree. One post ends with the line "separate men's and women's," but that line travels in a block with "booking, takeaway, delivery and groups welcome … use the public lot nearby" — the shop's listing page, copied whole. The writer who actually went in says the opposite: two toilets inside, not separated by sex. She also notes the washbasin sits just outside them, handy mid-meal. We counted only what she saw. Whether the stalls are cramped, where in the room they are, and whether the basement has a toilet of its own — no post says.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 22 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- The prices moved during the two years we read. The medium garlic trotter is ₩43,000 in an October 2025 post and ₩45,000 in posts from February and April 2026. An early-February 2026 writer puts both trotter and bossam at ₩43,000 for a medium; a mid-February one gives ₩48,000 for a large plain trotter. This looks like a rise rather than a disagreement, but nothing in the posts dates it. There is no small size, and one writer says that makes it a lot of food and money for one person — a medium is written up as two to three people, a large as four to five.
- Four posts went up on one day. On 19 February 2026, and three of the four repeat the same press-kit lines word for word — the 2012 opening, the all-Korean trotters boiled in a house stock. Only one of the three discloses anything, in a closing line stating the food was provided by the restaurant; the other two say nothing at all. We kept all three in the count anyway, because each one records what was ordered and what it cost — what separates a real visit from a filled-in template is the eating, not the hashtags or the boilerplate. Four writers state they paid their own way. The remaining sixteen never say who paid.
