Tteokbokki Sanghoe
떡볶이상회 Tteokbokki is simmered rice cake in sauce, and sanghoe is an old-fashioned word for a trading shop, so the name reads roughly 'The Tteokbokki Store'.
Compiled from 20 blog posts read in fullSources →
Tteokbokki Sanghoe is a retro snack-bar-cum-pub at the end of a narrow alley off Eoulmadang-ro, near Hongik Univ. Station exit 8. The core dish is tteokdoritang, a big pot of chicken, round rice cakes, glass noodles and bunmoja (plain, rose or mala; 32,000-34,000 won medium, 40,000-42,000 won large), with glass-noodle tteokbokki at 20,000 won, fried sides, corn fritters, steamed egg and 9,000-won highballs. Many posts describe the passage lined with cartoon figurines, old signboards and melamine bowls. We read 24 posts from March 2025 to October 2026; 20 of them describe actually eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Portion size is the most repeated point: 14 of the 20 visit posts say the food is a lot. One group of three couldn't come close to finishing; a group of four still left food. Posts that suggested a head count said three or more, some said four. Three posts note you can take leftovers home.
- Seven posts waited and one walked straight in. The waits they recorded were 5 minutes, 30, 30, 40 and an hour. One post arrived at 6:20 on a weekday with three groups ahead, still waited an hour, and counted 13 groups waiting when they were finally seated at 7:15. The one walk-in was at 4 pm on a weekday, right after the break. You sign up on a tablet just inside the door; one post says remote queueing through the app isn't available. Four posts mention chairs in the passage for people waiting.
- Five posts mention outdoor tables in the passage outside, one or two of them. One post says that when an outdoor table frees up, staff offer it to the waiting groups in order; another noticed nobody sitting there on a hot weekend.
- Three posts say you order from a tablet or touch pad at the table. One said there was no paper menu, so they photographed the screen; another said that because you pay at the table, staff ask you to press an exit button when you leave.
4 more
- Four posts say a free nibble comes when you sit down, and three of them say it is puffed rice or popped corn. No other side dishes, as one put it.
- Four posts got the 5,000-won fish-roe rice ball free through the Naver review event; one had already ordered it before finding out.
- Five posts found the staff friendly. One says the owner pushed an empty table over when their dishes didn't fit, one describes the staff as full of energy, and one ended up comparing nails with a server.
- Three posts say it is an easy walk from Hongik Univ. Station, under five minutes by one account. Several warn that the sign is small and the entrance is down an alley, so it's easy to walk past.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
Three posts say you order from a tablet or touch pad at the table. One said there was no paper menu, so they photographed the screen; another said that because you pay at the table, staff ask you to press an exit button when you leave.
Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 3 of 20 posts |
|---|---|
| Separate restrooms | 1 of 20 posts |
No post describes the floor from experience; the '1st floor' in the address is copied. Several do say you reach the door through a narrow passage between buildings.
Nobody says whether there's a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That's unknown, not a no. Posts do describe a narrow approach and closely packed tables.
Three posts say the restroom is inside, at the far left or behind the tables. One says it is split by gender, and one warns the tables are packed close enough that you have to squeeze through to reach it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 24 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Heat is split: five posts found it mild, two found it hot (mala on the mild setting, and the rose). One put the medium rose at a bit milder than Shin Ramyun. The spice level can be chosen.
- Opinions on size differ: three posts call the room small, one calls it fairly spacious. One group of four ran out of table space for their glasses.
- Two posts mention a two-hour limit on weekends, both from June-July 2025. No 2026 post repeats it; that doesn't mean it's gone, only that nobody mentioned it again.
- Most hours are copied from listings. Nine posts give 12:00-22:30 daily and one says 23:30. The weekday break of 15:00-16:00 is consistent, but the weekend (Fri-Sun) break appears as 15:00-17:00 in posts up to April 2026 and 16:00-17:00 in September 2026 posts. Four give last orders at 22:00. No post mentions a closing day.
- Prices match between the March 2025 menu listing and the 2026 posts (rose stew 34,000 won medium, 42,000 won large; steamed egg 7,000 won). The upcharge for a large is given as 8,000 won in one post and 3,000 won in another. One group of four said it didn't feel expensive given the amount; no post called it pricey.
- Two posts list different phone numbers (02-2135-4717 and 0507-1344-7658). One says phone reservations aren't taken and suggests arriving around opening time, even on weekends.
- We didn't count three posts made from copied material: two reproduce the shop's own blurb word for word, and one is an auto-generated neighbourhood list. One more post describes friends going without the writer.
