Geogeoda Hwangmeonji

거거다황먼지 Hwangmeonji is the Korean reading of huangmen ji (黄焖鸡), 'yellow-braised chicken', a Shandong dish of chicken braised in a soy-based sauce; the posts give no meaning for Geogeoda.

A Chinese braised-chicken (huangmen ji mifan) shop on the second floor of a building on Yanghwa-ro 18an-gil, near exit 8 of Hongik University Station. It serves single portions of soy-braised chicken bubbling in an earthenware pot with rice; the small bone-in version is 8,900 won. You pick bone-in or boneless, size and spice level, add toppings such as glass noodles or potato at 1,000 won each, order at a kiosk or tablet, and help yourself to kimchi and radish from a self-serve bar. We read 13 posts from October 2025 to July 2026; 11 describe eating there (the other two are a diary entry about delivery and a list of new openings).

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. There is a bar counter along the window. Four posts mention window seats — good for sitting alone facing out, watching Hongdae's street at night, or sitting in the sun. Three posts describe two- and four-seat tables plus the bar, and three say the room is small.
  2. No post reports a wait. Three say there was none — weekday 1 p.m., right at Sunday opening (they were the only customers), and a weekday lunch. One January 2026 lunch post says it was fairly busy but mentions no wait. Two say the food came out quickly.
  3. The rice is packed in. Three posts say the bowl comes pressed full. Opinions on the chicken portion differ: one post thought it looked skimpy, another found it just right with one bowl of rice.
  4. Three posts (November 2025, January and April 2026) say a bill of 10,000 won or more earns a 1,000-won coupon for the next visit. The April 2026 post adds that the nearby Chabaekdo tea shop stocks this shop's coupon, and this shop hands out Chabaekdo coupons in return.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

2 posts say it is walkable from the station.

Getting inside

Second floor6 of 11 posts

It is upstairs. Six posts say they climbed the stairs or went up to the second floor; none places it on the ground floor or below. One notes a large menu board at the street entrance, so you can see the menu before heading up.

We don't know whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in, or whether there is a lift. Two posts mention walking up the stairs, but none mentions an elevator or an entrance step — that means nobody wrote about it, not that there isn't one.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 13 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Views on price differ. Three posts call it cheap; one (March 2026) wondered whether it had always been this expensive, comparing it with prices in China. The small bone-in dish is 8,900 won in every post from November 2025 to July 2026, so this does not point to a price rise. For the small boneless dish, two posts say 11,000 won and one says 9,900 won. With a topping, a meal comes to around 10,000 won.
  • Only two posts say who they went with, both with friends. Many posts call it good for eating alone, but none states they went alone, and none went with family or children.
  • Four posts give opening hours as 11:00-22:00 daily, all copied from the map listing; one gives an 11:30 opening and another a garbled 11:00-23:00. No post mentions closing days or last orders. One says there is no midday break.
  • Three posts list the phone number as 0507-1311-9077. None says whether reservations are taken.
