Dongpayuk 1080

동파육1080 Dongpayuk is Dongpo pork, the slow-braised pork belly named after the Song poet Su Dongpo; 1080 is the year the dish's story is said to begin, which the sign spells out beneath the name.

Dongpayuk 1080 is a Chinese restaurant a five-minute walk from exit 2 of Hongik University station, up a half-flight of stairs above the ground-floor shops on Worldcup-buk-ro 4-gil. The core is dongpo pork — belly braised for hours (medium 24,000 won) — and a dongpo pork rice bowl (13,500 won), alongside scallion tofu, mapo tofu, suanla glass noodles, a whole fried eggplant, guobaorou and smashed cucumber. Everything is self-service: order at the kiosk, collect your tray when your number is called, return it when done; side dishes and jasmine tea come from a self-serve bar. Several pairs report paying 30,000–50,000 won for a medium pork and two sides. We read 30 posts from 4 July to 24 October 2026; 29 describe an actual visit.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Guests do everything from ordering to clearing. Twenty posts ordered at the kiosk by the door; many describe fetching food from the pickup counter and returning trays. One called it food-court style, another said the trays feel like a staff canteen — though one post says the food was brought over when the room was empty.
  2. Free drinks sit on the self-serve bar. Twenty posts helped themselves to jasmine tea or doujiang, a house soy drink described as nuttier than soy milk or like melted scorched-rice candy. But the latest post, from 24 October, found only jasmine tea — the doujiang seemed to be gone. July–August posts don't mention the drinks at all.
  3. Portions come up again and again: fourteen posts call them large. One advises two women to order two dishes plus a side at most; another says the owner talked a friend out of ordering the large pork. One diner thought the pork rice bowl looked small but found it enough.
  4. The whole fried eggplant is the most talked-about dish after the pork. Sixteen posts describe something crisp, mostly the eggplant — staying crunchy to the last bite, even once cold. Posts split on the batter: one says almost none, another says thick.
3 more
  1. Eleven posts call it cheap. One links the prices to the lack of table service; one shares a receipt of 33,900 won for a pork rice bowl, mapo tofu, fried eggplant and rice; a couple paid 34,600 won for two rice bowls, the eggplant and a cola. No post calls it expensive.
  2. Twelve posts say it's an easy walk from Hongik University station; estimates from exit 2 range from three minutes to about ten.
  3. Company is spread out: ten posts went with friends, six with a spouse, two with a parent or child, two with groups of coworkers — one group of more than ten found plenty of room. Nobody wrote about eating alone, though several noticed many solo diners.

The most ordered dish is dongpayuk (동파육) — 21 of 29 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Only one post says from experience that there's no dedicated parking. Several others repeat a 'no parking' line copied from listings, along with advice to use nearby public or paid lots; we don't count those.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 11 (of 29 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 29 posts

The registered address says ground floor, but the shop is upstairs. Eleven posts place it a half-flight or a full flight above the street — not underground — over a separate ground-floor restaurant; one diner walked into the wrong shop downstairs. One says the stairs aren't steep.

The way in is by stairs. No post mentions a wheelchair, stroller, entrance step or lift — not that there is none, but nobody wrote about it.

Only one post mentions the toilet, saying it's inside the restaurant. Nobody says whether it's separated by gender or how big it is.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post describes queueing. One arrived at the 11am opening to a near-empty room that filled as they left; another was the last customer near closing. We don't know about the peak lunch wait.
  • Opening hours appear to have changed in October 2026. September posts give 11:00–22:00 on weekdays, 11:00–21:00 Saturdays, with a 14:30–16:30 break; posts from 14 October give 11:00–23:00 weekdays, 11:00–22:00 Saturdays, break 14:30–17:00. Three early-October posts say 11:00–22:00 Monday to Saturday. All agree it's closed on Sundays. Most of these are copied listing lines, so check before going.
  • Prices agree across posts except for the fried eggplant: 5,600 won in five, 6,500 in three, 5,400 as a rice-bowl add-on in two, 5,000 in one. One post lists both 5,400 as an add-on and 6,500 on its own, so the price may depend on how you order it.
  • Nine posts give the phone number 0507-1355-0520; two summer posts list different numbers. Naver reservations appear only in copied listing lines — no one wrote about actually booking.
  • Three more things changed. In July–August the self-serve bar had coriander, pickled radish, cucumber pickles and zha cai; from September posts list dried-tofu salad, tofu-skin salad, eggplant kimchi and pickled radish. Chongqing dandan noodles were eaten at 10,800 won on 9 September, but a 13 September post was told they'd been dropped. The doujiang drink was missing on 24 October.
  • Two posts say the restaurant moved here from La Festa in Ilsan, but one is hearsay and the other a guess from other reviews, so we don't count it. A 10 September post says it opened about two months earlier.
  • Seven posts from 4–16 October 2026 carry the same five hashtags in the same order; one of them discloses sponsorship, and a 10 September post was an invitation. Each describes its own meal, so we counted them, but the October praise may be part of a promotion.
