동교해물 Donggyo is the Hongdae neighbourhood (Donggyo-dong) the place stands in, and haemul simply means seafood.

A seafood bar on the second floor of 18 Yanghwa-ro 18an-gil, near exit 8 of Hongik Univ. Station; posts call it the main branch. Most tables order the evening sets of mixed raw seafood, a seasonal dish and seafood stew, and the two-person set costs 95,000 won. We read 18 posts from April 2025 to October 2026. Twelve are about this branch, all from actual visits. Of the other six, five are about the annex across the street at no. 17 and one is about a flower shop next door, so we left them out. Two posts mention a sign at the door saying guests must be 30 or older. That is the house's own rule, and one post said nobody checked their age.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. This is a book-ahead place: seven posts reserved before going. One said it runs almost entirely on reservations, so walking in is hard. Posts mention booking by text message, phone and Naver.
  2. There is a single private room, mentioned by six posts. One says it seats up to eight; another says it can only be booked for five or more. The wedding-invitation party booked it two months ahead.
  3. The room is small: four posts called it cosy and none of the main-branch posts called it roomy. One counted about four tables for two to four, the private room and a two-seat counter.
  4. Mussel soup arrives as soon as you sit; five posts say it is free, one that it came before water, before even ordering.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Second floor3 of 9 posts

Three posts say you walk up to the second floor; one notes the stairs are short.

No post mentions a basement; posts only place it on the second floor.

We only know there is a short flight of stairs. No post mentioned a lift, a step at the door, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That does not mean it is impossible; we simply do not know.

Only one post lists the toilet as inside the premises, in an info list rather than from use, so we did not count it. We do not know whether toilets are separated by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • No main-branch post describes queueing, since nearly all had booked. One only guessed there might be a wait at weekend peaks, so we do not know how long a walk-in would wait.
  • Four posts say it is close to the station: 220 m from exit 8, under five minutes on foot. No post came by bus.
  • Seven posts give hours of 17:00-23:00 and six say closed Sundays, mostly copied from listings. Last order is split between 22:00 (two posts) and 21:00 (one). One post gave 16:00-24:00, which looks like the annex's hours.
  • Most prices come from one menu photo in May 2025: 95,000 won for two, 130,000 for three to four, 40,000 for the stew. Three posts agree on the two-person price up to July 2025. Since then we only have a 10,000-won Halla tonic (October 2026) and one post's 50,000/80,000-won half and full platter (August 2026), so current prices are unconfirmed. Nobody gave the six-person set's price.
  • Six posts give the phone number as 0507-1308-7055. One adds a text-booking number, 010-2199-7055, and one gives a different number, 0507-1433-5114. The annex across the street is 0507-1355-5096, so take care when booking.
  • An annex with the same name sits across the street at 17 Yanghwa-ro 18an-gil, 1F. It has an upside-down sign, a street-stall look and different hours, and we kept its five posts out of these counts. A post from April 2025 says that before then a two-person set was added, the seafood ramen was renamed seafood stew, and Naver booking joined the old first-come text-message reservations.
