Dongboseong

동보성 The full sign reads 동보성 정통옛날짜장 — Dongboseong, traditional old-style jjajang (black-bean noodles).

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

An old-school Chinese-Korean restaurant on a side street (Yanghwa-ro 19-gil) near Hongik University Station; the sign reads Dongboseong Jeongtong Yennal Jjajang. People come for the house spicy yuni jjajang, ganjjajang and glutinous-rice sweet-and-sour pork, and eleven posts ordered set A, the two-person set of pork plus two jjajang. Set A was 27,000 won in October 2026 posts and 25,000 won in June–July 2026. We read 30 posts from August 2025 to October 2026: two were about same-name restaurants in Daegu and were dropped, three were lists or info pages we did not count, and 25 describe an actual meal.

Rows without a count: 3 of 10 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Three posts said the food is slow. A December 2025 visitor waited 20 minutes for jjajang and checked whether the order had gone in; a five-year regular said the wait for food keeps them away at lunch; a July 2026 post noted orders came out a little late on a busy day.
  2. Four posts noted that the table water is tea rather than plain water: jasmine tea in three, barley tea in one.
  3. The rule is one dish per person. Both posts that came with children said staff did not press them to order more — one with two adults and two kids on a set plus one extra dish, the other with primary-schoolers on a single set.
  4. Six posts called the frying crisp (five on the sweet-and-sour pork, one on kkanpunggi). Several compared the glutinous-rice pork to guobaorou; it comes already sauced, so one post advises asking ahead if you want the sauce on the side. On sweetness the sauce splits three posts to three.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 22 posts

One visitor said there is no dedicated parking and suggested nearby public lots; another guessed parking looked hard. Three more posts list no parking, but those are copied info lines and we did not count them.

Where it is

Map showing where Dongboseong is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Seven visit posts said it is close to Hongik University Station, two to three minutes on foot from exit 2 or 3.

Getting inside

No post described the floor or any stairs from experience; only the address says ground floor. That means no one wrote about it, not that there is nothing to note.

No one mentioned a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. Two posts came with children but said nothing about strollers.

We do not know whether the toilet is inside or separated by gender; one post only captioned a photo of a homely restroom.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Waiting is split. Two posts describe a lunch line — one says there is never a lunchtime without a wait, another got the last table with everyone behind them waiting. Two others, arriving around 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., found free seats. One post mentions chairs by the door for waiting.
  • Prices rose in autumn 2026. June–July posts give set A 25,000, spicy yuni jjajang 8,000 and jjamppong 10,000 won; a September list gives ganjjajang 9,000 and seafood jjamppong 13,000. October posts show set A 27,000, yuni jjajang 8,500, jjamppong 10,500, ganjjajang 9,500 and seafood jjamppong 13,500 won. One post's 7,000-won jjajang and 9,000-won jjamppong were copied from an old Naver listing. The four posts calling it cheap all predate the rise.
  • Ten posts gave opening hours, all 11:00 to 21:30. Three say Sunday closes earlier at 20:30, while six say every day without a Sunday exception. Two say there is no afternoon break and one says no regular day off. Four of these are copied info blocks.
  • Three posts list the phone number 02-337-5959, but none said they booked or that bookings are taken.
  • How hot the spicy yuni jjajang is stays unsettled: seven posts called it mildly spicy without deciding, one said it is not really spicy. Of the three posts that called something properly spicy, two were about jjamppong and only one about the yuni jjajang.
