Chunjang Pocha
춘장포차 Chunjang is the fermented black bean paste behind jjajangmyeon, and pocha is short for pojangmacha, a casual Korean drinking tent or pub.

Chunjang Pocha is a Chinese-style drinking spot at 188 Donggyo-ro in Mapo, described as a two-to-five-minute walk from Exit 1 of Hongik University Station. It opens at 5 pm and sells small plates such as yuringi, fried aubergine, chilli prawns and egg soup with rice crisps for 4,900 to 9,900 won each, so tables order several and share them over draught beer or highballs. The most-ordered dishes were yuringi (16 posts), fried aubergine and the egg soup (10 each) and chilli prawns (9). We read 30 posts from 24 November 2025 to 7 October 2026; 25 of them record an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- All 25 visits call it cheap. One couple had two dishes plus a bottle each of soju and beer for a bill in the 20,000-won range; another found three dishes cost about the same as one dish at other bars. Terra draught is written up at 2,900 won for a 300 ml glass, though one writer felt the small glass made it poor value.
- Ten posts say the frying is crisp — one called the sweet-and-sour pork shatteringly crisp with thick meat, another praised the thin, crunchy batter on the aubergine.
- Nine posts mention small street-side tables out front, pojangmacha style. Most recommend them in good weather; one August visitor said nobody could sit out there in the heat.
- Six posts describe window seats facing the street. One couple pushed to the front on a full Saturday night found it less stuffy for the view; another noted partitions between the two-person window seats.
8 more
- It is not a quiet place. Five posts describe it as loud — very loud music, booming voices at the next table. One writer found it calm enough for conversation, and one was undecided.
- Four posts say it is cramped: one writer bumped a table on the way past and got a bruise, another said the small room is packed with tables, leaving each group little space. One post found the spacing generous and one called it adequate.
- Six posts ordered from a tablet at the table or a kiosk.
- Three posts note that black bean paste and raw onion arrive on the table unasked, like the onion that comes with jjajangmyeon.
- Four posts say the food came quickly; none complained of a wait.
- Five posts mention the open kitchen.
- Thirteen posts put it two to five minutes on foot from Exit 1 of Hongik University Station.
- Nine posts went with friends; one with a partner and one as a group of four. Several suggest it suits drinking alone, but nobody actually went alone.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

No visitor states which floor it is on. The address says ground floor and many mention street-side tables, but nobody describes steps at the entrance.
Nobody mentions a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or pram — that means unknown, not absent. Several posts do describe the room as cramped.
Only one post covers the toilet: it is in the next building, with separate men's and women's rooms. No other post mentions it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Prices for the same dish differ by 1,000 won between posts: yuringi appears at 7,900 won in four posts and 8,900 won in eight (three of those copied from the listing), and the egg soup at both 5,900 and 6,900 won. Both figures turn up in the same months, so we do not read it as a price change; nobody explains the difference.
- Portions divide opinion: five posts call them generous, two say small, and five are mixed from plate to plate. Writers counted exactly five cream prawns, five chilli prawns and about seven pieces of kkanpunggi.
- Waiting varies: one couple got the last table around 8:30 on a Saturday night and watched later arrivals turned away, while others walked straight in at an off-peak hour or found little wait on a Friday evening. Another post found it already full at 6 pm on a Saturday.
- Opening hours change over time in the posts. Six posts from November 2025 to February 2026 give 5 pm to 2 am Sunday to Thursday and to 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays; three from March and April 2026 add a Sunday closure; posts from May to August say 5 pm to 2 am daily, last order 1 am, one adding open every day of the year. Nearly all of this is copied from the listing, and a September post again says 3 am at weekends while another says 1 am, so we cannot confirm current hours.
- Many posts give the same phone number, 0507-1435-6575. One notes Naver booking slots at 5:00, 5:30 and 6:00 pm, but nobody actually booked.
- Some posts arrive in clusters — three on 27 February 2026, two on 8–9 April, four on 18–19 June — repeating the same phrases about a Chinese-cuisine expert cooking and draught beer, soju and highballs. One still contains the shop's own voice inviting readers to phone the store, and another writer said they lost interest after seeing so many sponsored reviews. None discloses sponsorship; seven say they paid themselves.
- An August 2026 post noted yangjangpi was missing but a half-size version, banjangpi, had since appeared; the same visitor found the black pepper beef sold out.
