Cheongho is a Jeju black-pork grill in a basement on an alley behind the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, near exit 3 of Hongik University station (212-22 Donggyo-ro). Belly, neck and the neck-back cut are 19,000 won a portion, jowl 21,000 won, and the house cooks everything for you on a pre-heated stone with aged kimchi and mushrooms. Sides are crab doenjang stew (5,000 won), fried rice (3,000 won) and rice (1,000 won); at lunch there are meals such as black-pork kimchi stew (11,000 won). We read 21 posts from March 2025 to October 2026: 13 are about this place and 12 of those describe a meal. The other 8 only shared the name — water-purifier ads, diaries from a street in Sokcho, a cake shop upstairs — and we set them aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The house does the grilling: nine of the twelve meal posts say the owner or staff cooked for them. When you order, meat comes out of an ageing fridge beside the tables and is cut on the spot; a pre-heated stone arrives, gets greased with pork fat, and then the meat, aged kimchi, mushrooms and anchovy sauce go on in turn. It is cut into bite-size pieces when done, and one post says the owner explained how best to eat each cut. Two posts mention a lot of spattering fat; aprons are provided.
  2. Six posts call the meat thick and four mention juiciness. Two say they worried black pork might smell gamey and it didn't; one felt the portions were bigger than the stated weight.
  3. Posts disagree on size: two found it roomy with well-spaced tables, while one counted about four or five four-person tables plus two group tables and called it not very big. One notes a low ceiling but a duct over every table that cleared the smoke; two found it quiet enough to talk.
  4. Two posts booked ahead, and one found its table ready on arrival. The line that the house takes Naver and phone bookings (0507-1315-2825) is copied from its listing.

Getting inside

In a basement5 of 11 posts

It is below street level. Five posts that went say they walked down — down a flight of stairs, to a half-basement. The directions the house posted on Naver say ground floor of a white building, and three posts copied that, but everyone who described arriving went downstairs. One post found the alley a little confusing; another spotted it by the inflatable black-pig sign at the alley mouth.

No post mentions a wheelchair, a pushchair, a step at the door, a lift or a ramp. One says you go down stairs to the basement; that is all we know, not proof there is no step-free way in.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 12 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Directions from the station are almost all copied from the house's listing (three minutes on foot from exit 3, about 135 m along the forest park). No post records how long the walk actually took.
  • Nobody wrote about queuing. One post found other diners already there in the evening, but no one recorded a wait.
  • Of the meal posts, six went as a couple and one with a friend. Several suggest it for group dinners, but none describes actually going as a group or with children.
  • We don't know the current opening hours: every post copies a different version. March 2025 says 13:00–23:00, closed the first and third Monday; September 2025 says weekdays 11:30–22:00, weekends 13:00–22:00, closed the first, third and fifth Sunday; August 2026 says weekdays 11:30–22:00, weekends 16:00–22:00; October 2026 says Monday to Saturday 17:00–22:00, closed Sunday. Only the weekday 15:00–17:00 break appears the same in five posts. All of these are copied listings, so we don't rely on them.
  • Meat prices held steady: belly was 19,000 won a portion from September 2025 to September 2026. Cold noodles were 6,000 won in a September 2025 post but 10,000 won as a lunch item on the September 2026 menu, and we can't tell whether that is a rise or a lunch-versus-side price. Kimchi stew is likewise 5,000 won as a side and 11,000 won at lunch. One couple paid 48,000 won for two portions of belly with noodles, fried rice and rice.
  • One post says the owner told them they ran a place in Ilsan for years and moved to Hongdae about four years ago; another copies the house's own blurb tying it to an old Hwajeong pork restaurant. Those are hearsay and the house's own claims, so we didn't count them; nothing in our period suggests a move.
  • None of the twelve meal posts discloses sponsorship and only one says the writer paid. Still, two copy the house's directions word for word, four share the same hashtags, and one from September 2026 repeats the same search phrases in nearly every sentence — these may be commissioned, and we read them with that in mind.
