Animate Cafe Hongdae is a collaboration café on the 5th floor of AK Plaza Hongdae, across from the Animate goods store. Every few weeks it switches to a new anime or webtoon title, serving themed drinks and desserts with a random coaster per item, and it always sells takeout-only Gratte drinks printed with a character picture (7,000 won) and icing cookies (6,500 won). In August 2026 the theme was Haikyu; from 2 September to 13 October it was Omniscient Reader, with every drink at 7,000 won and desserts from 5,500 to 12,000 won. We read 27 posts dated 22 August to 9 October 2026, 10 of them first-hand visits. Another 10 were about the Animate goods store on the same floor or other pop-ups in the building, and we set them aside.

What sets it apart
- Lines depend on the day and the event. Three posts had no wait: a weekday around 2 pm on the first day of the Omniscient Reader run, a weekday 1-2 pm during Haikyu, and Sunday 27 September, when few people were there. Two posts waited: one arrived around 10:15 on the opening day of the Persona Gratte fair and got a 10:40 entry ticket, the other gave up on ordering near the end of the Haikyu run because the line was too long.
- Table time is limited, as three posts noted. The in-store notice one writer copied says two hours by default and 50 minutes when full or during booked sessions, with trays returned by the guest. Another writer had a one-hour slot, waited over 40 minutes just to order and receive the menu, could only queue for goods after that, and came back with five minutes left.
- Ordering is by kiosk, as two posts noted. One describes a kiosk on each side of the counter, the left taking both collaboration items and Gratte, the right only collaboration items, with a buzzer number entered on screen. Another notes that titles without a dine-in run are takeout only, through a separate takeout kiosk.
- Seating is two-person tables and standing tables, each themed to a character, as two posts noted. One says takeout Gratte customers may only use the standing tables, found the tables plentiful and the room spacious, and suggests claiming the character table you want before ordering.

One writer drove. The AK Plaza car park is mechanical, which he said backs up on weekends; on a weekday afternoon the wait was short, and after staying over an hour without buying anything he paid 7,000 won.

Getting inside
No post described the floor from experience; addresses and notices all say the 5th floor of AK Plaza Hongdae, and one writer only mentions seeing the café straight ahead on coming up the escalator.

Of the 16 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- The café has not moved; what changes is the collaboration. August 2026 posts describe the Haikyu menu, posts from September to 13 October the Omniscient Reader menu, and a Tanemura Arina 30th-anniversary collaboration is announced for 20 November to 15 December. Expect the menu and bonuses to differ by visit.
- None of the visit posts described getting there by subway or bus. Mentions of Hongik University Station come from copied info blocks in posts about other shops, so we did not count them.
- Who people came with doesn't add up to a pattern: one post with friends, one family of four with an elementary-school child, one with a coworker.
- Three visit posts give the same opening hours, 11:00-22:00 on weekdays and 10:30-22:00 on weekends, one adding a 21:00 last order; all three copied this into info blocks. Posts quoting the official account give 21:40 for the Animate store and its Gratte fairs, so the café and the store may close at different times.
- Prices change with each collaboration. Gratte, icing cookies and ice cream held steady from August to October, but nobody gave the price of the Haikyu drinks. From the menus, a drink is 7,000 won and a drink plus dessert roughly 12,000 to 19,000 won.
- The number 02-3144-7357 appears in three posts but is listed as the Animate store's enquiry line. One post says the café took Naver reservations only for some sessions, such as opening weekends, and otherwise ran walk-in queues.
