Usijang Hoegwan

우시장회관 Usijang means cattle market and hoegwan a hall, so the name reads 'Cattle Market Hall'; the sign over the door says Usijang Gukbap, 'Cattle Market Gukbap'.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

A beef house down an alley from Exit 3 of Mapo Station, at Samgae-ro 15-10, ground floor. Naver lists it as Usijang Hoegwan; writers say the sign over the door reads Usijang Gukbap. It does charcoal-grilled beef (the 700 g mixed platter of jin-galbisal, rib meat and marinated LA ribs, 79,800 won), Korean-beef yuksashimi and yukhoe, and gukbap from the 8,900-won clear broth to the 14,000-won clam-and-beef bowl. Of 29 posts by people who ate here, 19 ordered the three-person set (platter, raw beef and one soup), and 2 came only for a lunchtime bowl. We read 30 posts dated 18 September to 11 October 2026; one, about the bar upstairs in the same building, was set aside.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Twelve posts say extra side dishes come from a self-serve bar. Dressed lettuce, pickled perilla leaves, pickled chilies and spicy silbi kimchi come up again and again, and one writer went back for more of the lettuce. At lunch, gukbap eaters help themselves to kimchi and pickled chilies kept on the table.
  2. Twelve posts call it cheap or good value; one calls it a fairly pricey menu. The value talk centers on gukbap under 10,000 won and the 700 g platter at 79,800 won. Grill diners pay a separate 1,500-won table charge per person.
  3. Thirteen posts say the portions are big. Several couples ordered the three-person set for two and left stuffed, and one writer's galbitang came on a tray because the bowl was brimming. One writer found too little rice in the gukbap to feel full.
  4. Two posts waited: one couple stood about 10 minutes for a table at 7 pm on a Friday, and a decade-long local office worker says weekday lunch has a line but it moves fast, so go before 11:30. One post found it quiet around 2 pm; another arrived before the 5 pm reopening and watched a crowd pour in behind them.

  1. Thirteen posts describe walking 3–5 minutes from Exit 3 of Mapo Station. It sits in a side alley rather than on the main road, so one writer says to watch the map; another says it appears once you turn into the alley between a hardware shop and a motel.
  2. Four posts say you order on a tablet or kiosk at the table; one lunchtime writer notes you pay up front as you order.
  3. Eight posts call the staff or owner kind. One writer had the owner stop and debone the big ribs in her galbitang; another was told to cook the jin-galbisal lightly. One post says you grill your own meat; two say staff stepped in to turn the meat or grill the LA ribs.
  4. Three posts noticed foreign diners, and each describes staff explaining the menu and taking orders in English and Chinese.
  5. Seven posts say the beef had no gamey or fishy taste, most often about the yuksashimi.
  6. Eight posts came as a couple, five with family, two in a larger group and one with friends. The one post with children notes there are no high chairs or child tableware.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 28 posts read)

No one describes the floor or any stairs. The '1st floor' in the address is a registry entry, not something a visitor reported.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That means no one wrote about it, not that there is no barrier.

One post says the restroom is outside the restaurant, inside the building; no other post mentions it, and no one says whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Opinions differ on size: four posts call it roomy, two say it is not big. The '50 seats' figure is the shop's own line, copied into many posts; the two writers who counted saw about seven four-person tables and about ten tables.
  • All opening hours are copied listings, and they don't agree. The 10 posts giving 10:00–22:00 with last order 21:30 are all dated 18 Sept–1 Oct; the 14 giving 10:00–21:50 with last order 21:20 are all from October except two from 21 and 26 Sept. Closing seems to have moved 10 minutes earlier around late September, but we can't pin the date. Every listing has a 15:00–17:00 break, and five say it opens every day. One post gave 11:00–22:00 along with a different phone number; we didn't count it.
  • Prices vary a little from post to post. Most give 116,900 won for the three-person set, with one each at 120,000 and 123,900. Naejangtang shows up at 12,000 or 13,000 won, and the solo set at 14,900, 15,900 or 19,800. All these posts fall within about three weeks, so we can't tell price changes from copying errors. Corkage is mostly listed at 20,000 won a bottle; one post says it's free.
  • Fourteen posts give the phone number as 0507-1385-7775; one gives 02-711-5859. Many posts say you can book through Naver, and one writer who booked ahead got the last free table.
  • All 30 posts were published within about three weeks (18 Sept–11 Oct 2026), and many repeat the same block of shop information in the same order: hours, two parking spaces, '50 seats', 'slaughtered and trimmed the same day', and the rare cut that yields only 2 kg per animal. None discloses sponsorship, and only one says the writer paid. Claims about beef grade and same-day slaughter come from the shop, so we didn't rely on them.
