Jungang Haejang

중앙해장 Jungang means 'central' and comes from Jungang Chuksan, the Majang-dong beef offal dealer that runs the place; haejang means curing a hangover, as in haejangguk.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

Jungang Haejang is a Korean-beef hangover-soup and tripe hot-pot house on Yeongdong-daero 86-gil in Daechi-dong, about five minutes' walk from Samseong Station. Solo diners come for a 14,000-won bowl of tripe and blood-curd soup; groups simmer tripe hot pot (67,000 won medium, 98,000 won large) over soju in the same hall. Since April 2026 it has stayed open around the clock Tuesday to Saturday; older listings gave 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. We read 30 posts dated July 12 to October 25, 2026; 21 record an actual meal. Three were about other restaurants (the Gwanghwamun branch, a Chinese place, a burger shop) and six were roundup lists, write-ups without a visit, or takeout eaten at home, so we did not count them.

Rows without a count: 12 of 12 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Nine posts mention a queue; four walked straight in. The waits people recorded were 30 minutes (around noon), 20 minutes (lunch), 15 minutes (Sunday 7:20 p.m.) and 10 minutes (around 6 p.m.). The four with no wait came at 5:30 on a weekday, 8:30 on a Saturday night, a Monday evening, and an off-hour on a weekend. You can only join the queue in person: one writer noted CatchTable shows the line but won't let you queue remotely, and another said they text your phone, so don't wander far. Two posts mention waiting seats by the entrance for seven or eight people.
  2. Nine posts call the place large: it takes the whole ground floor of the building, has two main halls, and one writer guessed over 100 seats. Three posts mention private rooms at the back, and two of those were shown into one even though they had only come for soup.
  3. Eleven posts said the tripe, blood curd or boiled beef had no gamey smell; none said otherwise.
  4. Eleven posts said portions were large — one said the soup's solids alone would fill you up without rice, another that a small hot pot could feed three. One writer disagreed, finding the tripe skimpy and mostly vegetables for the price.
4 more
  1. Nine posts called it expensive — 67,000 won for a medium hot pot drew 'a bit wicked', and even the 14,000-won soup got 'pricey, though'. One post called it good value.
  2. Five posts say you order on a tablet at the table, one adding that you pay there too. Four hot-pot eaters said staff added the noodles or fried the rice at the table for them.
  3. Four posts put it about five minutes' walk from exits 1 and 2 of Samseong Station.
  4. Of the posts that say who they came with, five came with friends, one with a husband and one alone. The solo diner had soup at 11:30 a.m.; most of the friend groups ordered the hot pot.

The most ordered dish is gopchang jeongol (곱창전골) — 12 of 21 posts.

Parking

1 posts say you can park; 2 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you can park1 of 21 posts
Posts saying you cannot2 of 21 posts

Parking reports conflict. One post says the building has parking, paid after 30 minutes; two say there is no lot of its own and you use the public street parking out front (400 won per 5 minutes); one just says parking is paid. Copied info blocks mix 'no parking' with '4,000 won for 30 minutes'. One group drove but didn't say where they parked.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 21 posts read)

Nobody said whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in — we don't know, which is not the same as no. One post says the restaurant takes the whole ground floor, and one mentions high chairs.

We can't say whether the toilet is inside the restaurant. One writer called it an ordinary shared building toilet; separate men's and women's rooms appear only in copied info blocks.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-122 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours changed in April 2026. Twelve later posts agree on 24 hours Tuesday to Saturday and an 11 a.m. start on Monday. Sunday closing is 9:30 p.m. in ten posts and 8:30 p.m. in one; Sunday last order is 8:30 p.m. in three and 8 p.m. in one. Nearly all of these are copied info blocks. Holiday closures are given either as the day before and the day of Seollal and Chuseok, or the days before and after.
  • Opinions on heat split three to two: three found it spicy (one gave up on the soup broth), two said it was milder than it looks. One writer warned the hot pot gets saltier and hotter as it cooks unless you remove some chili paste.
  • Prices held steady from July to October 2026. Only the dumplings differ: one post says 6,000 won, five say 8,000. Two people pay about 28,000 won for two soups, or 70,000 won for a medium hot pot plus fried rice.
  • Eleven posts list the phone number, 02-558-7905, but nobody confirmed whether it takes reservations; one writer only guessed the private rooms could be booked for groups.
