Taeseong Golbaengi Sinsa Bonjeom

태성골뱅이신사 본점 Golbaengi is the Korean whelk, a sea snail served dressed with scallion; sinsa means 'gentleman', and bonjeom marks this as the original shop among many branches of the same name.

Compiled from 13 blog posts read in fullSources →

The original branch of a whelk-and-beer house that fills a four-storey building in a Dadong alley (Euljiro 3-gil 35), central Seoul. In the evening tables order the traditional dressed whelk with scallion and dried pollack (32,000 won small, 38,000 won large, noodles on the side), fried chicken (24,000 won) and beer; at lunch the second floor runs a Korean buffet at 9,000 won a head. We read 21 posts from December 2024 to October 2026. Six were about other branches sharing the name (Yeouido, Jongno-gu Office, Nagwon, Cheonggye Plaza, Jonggak) and were set aside, leaving 14 that visited this shop.

What sets it apart

  1. It is a whelk house, but most tables add fried chicken. Five of the seven posts that ordered it described thin, crisp batter in the old-fashioned style. Half birds are available (12,000 won in Nov 2025); one diner found the half a little small.
  2. There is plenty of room: four posts said so, one found the second floor tidier, and another mentioned window seats looking onto the street. Two posts noted TVs and screens for watching sport.
  3. Lunch is a Korean buffet. Two posts went: in December 2025 it was 9,000 won, 8,500 won in cash, and 8,000 won for a takeaway box; still 9,000 won in September 2026. The main dish changes daily and is posted at the door and on Instagram. Both posts said trays empty fast but are refilled quickly; one said there was no wait.
  4. Two posts called it pricey for drinks and snacks. One table of three paid about 75,000 won for a small whelk, half-and-half chicken, draught beer, soju and cola. Soju was 6,000 won a bottle in November 2025.

Only one post mentions parking: it thought there was no dedicated lot and suggested public transport. Two posts found it an easy walk from Euljiro 1-ga station.

Getting inside

Second floor3 of 13 posts
Lift to the floor1 of 13 posts

Draught beer means going upstairs. Two posts sat down on the ground floor, were told it serves only bottled beer, and moved to the second floor; a third notes the lunch buffet is also on the second floor. One Sunday visitor found the third floor closed.

The registered address lists a basement level, but no post mentions basement seating; two describe the shop as floors one to four. That means nobody wrote about it, not that it doesn't exist.

Nobody wrote about steps at the entrance, ramps, or getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair. One post mentions a lift.

No post says where the toilets are or whether they are separated by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 14 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • At least one price has gone up: the whole-whelk stew was 39,000 won in November 2025 and 41,000 won on menus copied in August and September 2026. Other dishes lack prices from both periods to compare. Lower prices quoted in posts about other branches are not this shop's and were left out.
  • Many branches share the name, and the Cheonggye Plaza branch is a few steps away; two posts warned readers not to mix them up. All six posts we set aside were about other branches.
  • No post reports waiting for a table in the evening. A Sunday visit found it quiet; a December 2024 post said a sudden group arrival slowed orders. We don't know how long the after-work rush takes.
  • Only one post went as a large group (an end-of-course party); two others merely guessed it would suit company dinners because of the space. Two went with friends, one as a couple.
  • Two posts give opening hours, both copied from listings: one says daily 2 pm to 1 am, the other Monday–Saturday 2 pm to 1 am and Sunday until midnight. Nobody gave lunch-buffet hours or a closing day.
  • Two posts list different phone numbers (02-779-0595 and 0507-1355-0595). Nobody said whether reservations are taken.
