Nampo Myeonok

남포면옥 Nampo is the port city of Jinnampo in South Pyongan province, where the founder came from; myeonok means a noodle house.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

A northern-style noodle house in the Da-dong alleys behind Euljiro 1-ga station. The menu centres on Pyongyang naengmyeon cut with dongchimi radish water (16,000 won) and eobok-jaengban, Korean beef simmered on a shared brass tray (98,000 / 83,000 / 78,000 won by size); many groups add a galbitang (16,000 won) for whoever skips the cold noodles. There is a main building and an annex, with seating on two floors. We read 30 posts dated 18 August to 6 October 2026; 19 describe an actual meal. The rest are TV roundups, histories and lists, which we did not count, and one was about a different Nampo Myeonok in Sindang-dong.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Seven posts walked straight in — at opening, on weekday evenings, after 7 p.m., on a Sunday just past lunch. One post waited briefly on a packed weekday lunch hour. One more mentions waiting only in its title.
  2. Five posts photographed the wall of signatures and notes from former presidents, one naming Lee Myung-bak, Moon Jae-in and Yoon Suk-yeol.
  3. Four posts called it expensive, all about the 16,000-won bowl of naengmyeon; a fifth thought the place fair overall but the noodles pricey.
  4. Portions depend on the dish: three posts found the eobok tray or the noodles generous, two found the small boiled beef or pork plates meagre.
1 more
  1. Five posts call the place big; one notes a larger hall behind the front room, and two saw floor-seated private rooms on the ground floor.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 19 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 19 posts

Expect to be sent upstairs. Six posts were seated on the second floor; one weekday 11:30 visitor found the ground floor nearly full and the upper floor mostly empty. The stairway up is hung with notes from past presidents.

No one mentions a step at the door, wheelchair or stroller access, or a lift. Two posts went up to the second floor by stairs, one told to come down backwards. Unknown, not absent.

Only one post describes the toilets: inside, separate for men and women, with a slight smell that day.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 10 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Ten posts give hours; nine agree on 11:00-22:00 weekdays and 11:00-21:00 weekends, mostly copied from listings. Two uncounted write-ups say it opens at 11:30, one adding that only the main building opens at weekends — unconfirmed.
  • Every post from August to October 2026 has the naengmyeon at 16,000 won. The medium eobok tray is listed at 83,000 by two posts and 88,000 by one; one uncounted post gives lower prices that match no one else.
  • Seven posts give the phone as 02-777-2269; one gives 02-777-3131. Two posts confirm reservations — a crowded booking board at the door, and a party seated under a reservation name.
  • Four posts came with family, three as couples, three with friends or colleagues, one alone. One brought children, and one noted high chairs.
  • Founding dates differ — 1954, 1965 or 1972; one post notes the shop itself displays 'Since 1972'. All second-hand, so we leave it open.
