Maetdolloman

맷돌로만 Maetdol is a stone hand-mill and -roman means 'only with', so the name reads 'only with a millstone' — a large millstone turns in the middle of the dining room.

Compiled from 16 blog posts read in fullSources →

A tofu and soybean restaurant on the third floor of 16 Dadong-gil, Jung-gu, on the Mugyo-dong food street between City Hall and Euljiro 1-ga stations. A big millstone turns in the middle of the room; you scoop free warm soft tofu from rice cookers in front of it, then eat stews such as soft-tofu stew (10,000 won since March 2025), cheonggukjang or soy-pulp stew. The Maetdolloman set with tofu hotpot and bossam is for two or more at 14,000 won a head. Prices in 2024 posts were 1,000 won lower, and hours were cut in 2026 — it now closes on Sundays. We read 19 posts from October 2024 to August 2026; 17 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Space is what this place is known for. Nine posts called it large; one said there are twice as many seats as you first see, another that even past 12:30 with the room full there was always a free table. Three mentioned private rooms, and one listed two- and four-person tables plus a solo counter facing the millstone.
  2. Six posts said they did not wait, two of them saying they had never once queued here. One post claimed there is a wait almost every lunchtime, though that writer walked straight in on a rainy day.
  3. Eight posts describe repeat visits — one writer counted three years of countless lunches, another always ordered cheonggukjang — mostly office workers nearby. Two also said there is nothing special about it.
  4. One post saw a certificate of origin from Goesan, North Chungcheong, on the wall. The '100% Korean soybeans' line mostly repeats the shop's own signage, so we did not count it.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 8 (of 16 posts read)
Lift to the floor5 of 16 posts

Five posts said they took a lift to the third floor. One noted the front entrance has a lift and the back entrance does not.

No one wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — unknown, not absent. It is on the third floor, and one post says the lift is only at the front entrance.

No one described the toilets from experience. One post's info block lists them as inside the restaurant and separated by sex, but we did not count that.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 18 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Seasoning splits: one post found the soy-pulp stew spicy and salty, two found the soft-tofu stew mild or just right. One found the side dishes and soy-milk noodle broth too sweet.
  • All 19 posts give the same address, 3F, 16 Dadong-gil; none mention a move.
  • Prices rose between December 2024 and March 2025: soft-tofu stew 9,000 to 10,000 won, cheonggukjang 10,000 to 11,000, the set 13,000 to 14,000. Soy-pulp stew went from 10,000 in February 2026 to 11,000 by July. A meal runs 10,000-14,000 won in posts since 2025.
  • Opening hours changed. Eight posts from October 2024 to December 2025 gave 'daily 10:00-22:00' (mostly copied listings); two posts from July and August 2026 give Mon-Sat 10:30-21:00, break 15:00-16:30, last order 20:30, closed Sundays. We cannot tell exactly when it changed.
  • Many posts name nearby stations, but only one says they actually came by public transport — by bus to Euljiro 1-ga exit 1-1. Walking times are only guesses.
  • Most writers went with colleagues; one called it a group lunch. No post mentions going with friends, family or children.
  • Three posts give the phone number as 02-779-5050. No one wrote whether it takes reservations.
