Bultaneun Dadong Hwaro

불타는다동화로 Bultaneun Dadong Hwaro means 'the burning Dadong brazier' — Dadong is the alley neighborhood and a hwaro is a charcoal grill; mackerel is grilled over coals right at the front door.

Compiled from 18 blog posts read in fullSources →

A two-storey place on a Dadong alley (Eulji-ro 3-gil 33) between Euljiro 1-ga and City Hall stations. At lunch it serves set meals — grilled mackerel, iron-plate spicy pork, raw-beef bibimbap — for 9,000 to 12,000 won; at night it is a charcoal grill for ribs and pork. Many posts describe the owner grilling mackerel on a brazier at the door, a bowl of doenjang stew for each person with every meal, and a yogurt drink at the end. We read 24 posts from December 2024 to September 2026; 20 of them describe an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Six posts say they never queued, even at lunch, crediting the size — seven call it spacious and four mention a second floor. One found it packed just after 12:30, but no post reports waiting.
  2. Prices have risen twice: mackerel was 10,000 won in December 2024, 11,000 in May–June 2025 and 12,000 from January 2026; the spicy pork went from 11,000 (through October 2025) to 12,000 (June 2026). One post noted the rise, yet four still called it cheap and none called it expensive.
  3. Who cooks depends on the dish: three posts say you stir-fry the lunch spicy pork yourself, while two say staff or the owner cut and cook the dinner ribs at the table. Two posts note the ribs arrive pre-grilled.
  4. Six posts call the portions large — one says a single mackerel could feed two, another left doenjang stew unfinished. One post also says the rice bowl is not skimpy.

  1. Six posts are from repeat visitors, mostly office workers at lunch. Seven describe going in a group; one each went alone, as a couple, with family, or with friends.

Getting inside

Second floor4 of 18 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 18 posts read)

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance, whether a wheelchair or stroller fits, or whether there is a lift to the second floor — nobody wrote about it. Two posts mention plenty of seating on the ground floor.

No post describes the toilet from experience. One post's info line says men's and women's are separate, but it reads as copied listing data, so we did not count it.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 21 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Two posts say food came fast; one says the cold noodles took long and the meat smelled off.
  • Nine posts give hours: eight say 10:00–22:00 daily, all copied from listings; one says 11:00–22:00 from hearsay. One post says there is no afternoon break.
  • The phone number 02-318-8060 appears in only one post. One post saw many group lunch bookings and another mentions booking second-floor rooms for groups, but both walked in without a reservation.
  • Two posts that repost the same Wikifoodie article, and one promotional post that admits to AI-enhanced photos, were largely set aside.
