Grill houseKorean

Daesong Chamsut Gwanghwamun

대송참숯 광화문점 Chamsut means oak charcoal, which the house grills over; one blog says Daesong is taken from a place name in Pohang.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

A 1++ Hanwoo charcoal-grill house in the basement of the Tower8 building, next to Gran Seoul, between Jonggak and Gwanghwamun stations. It reopened under this name in March 2026 in the space that was Ttuksim Hanu, as the second branch after Yeouido. The signature platter — one bone-in short rib plus rib-finger meat, 400 g — is KRW 84,000; sirloin and marinated beef are KRW 21,000 per 100 g; at lunch a 150 g rib-meat set with a noodle or stew course is KRW 37,000 and short-rib soup KRW 20,000. Most people booked a private room, came as a group, grilled beef and finished with spicy octopus (KRW 35,000) and soybean stew. We read 30 posts from 20 March to 1 October 2026; 26 of them record an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The private rooms are why people come. Twelve posts ate in one, six of them after booking ahead; one got a room booking the night before. Several posts relay a room charge of KRW 10,000 for 2–4 people, 20,000 for 5–8 and 30,000 for nine or more. The '30+ rooms, 60-seat banquet' figures are the restaurant's own, copied by bloggers.
  2. Staff grill for you: eleven posts say staff cooked and cut the meat, one crediting a grill cook with ten years' experience. One post differs — staff grilled the bone-in rib, but the diners grilled the rib-finger and skirt themselves.
  3. On price it is fourteen to two. Fourteen posts call it cheap or fair, almost always pointing to KRW 21,000 per 100 g of 1++ beef. Two found it pricey: one after the lunch soup and bibimbap, one after a KRW 28,000 noodle hotpot. Two more did not come down either way.
  4. The sides are spicy: eleven posts say so, mostly about the octopus stir-fry and the braised tofu. The octopus comes whole in a clam-stock chilli sauce with thin noodles; one writer found it a little hot. Thirteen posts ordered it, more than any other non-beef dish.

Getting inside

In a basement10 of 26 posts
Lift to the floor1 of 26 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 26 posts

It is one floor down. Ten posts place it in the Tower8 basement; one says you take the stairs or the lift down from the building and the entrance is right there. One warns first-timers may struggle to find the way in. Three posts say from experience that it is easy to reach by subway or bus.

No one says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or pushchair can get in. It is below ground; one post mentions a lift.

No one says whether the toilets are inside the restaurant; one post says they are separate for men and women.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The discounts are over. All four posts that mention deals date from late March to early April 2026 and describe the opening promotion — KRW 100 soju instead of 7,000, buy-one-get-one Kirin draft, free tartare with grilled orders. It ran to 31 March; no later post mentions a discount.
  • The restaurant was renamed: until March 2026 the same space was Ttuksim Hanu, as seven posts note, with the same layout. Every post we read is from after the change. Many posts from the March–April opening repeat the same phrases in the same order and read like promotional copy, though none discloses sponsorship.
  • All opening hours are copied from listings. Fifteen posts give them; all agree on weekdays 11:00–22:00 with a 14:30–17:30 break. For weekends, seven say 12:00–21:30 and one says it opens at 11:00; four say there is no weekend break. Two say it closes on the day of major holidays, one says it never closes.
  • No post mentions waiting — not that there is none, only that nobody wrote about it. Three posts say it was not busy at weekends.
  • Prices stayed the same from March to October 2026, but the KRW 21,000 grilled oxtail is 200 g in two posts and 100 g in one. Ten posts give the phone number as 0507-1351-8088; one gives 02-6226-8088. Several relay that bookings go through Naver Booking and CatchTable.
