Japanese

Choe Uyeong Seusiya Jongno-jeom

최우영스시야 종로점 Choi Woo-young is a person's name and sushiya is Japanese for a sushi shop; one post ties it to Choi Woo-young Seafood, an importer of sea urchin roe and tuna whose soy sauce sits on every table.

Compiled from 31 blog posts read in fullSources →

Choi Woo-young Sushiya's Jongno branch is a sushi restaurant on the first basement floor of the Tower8 building, between Jonggak and Gwanghwamun stations. You order from a tablet at your seat: four sushi sets from a 12-piece plate at 13,000 won to a 17-piece plate at 33,000 won, single pieces at 1,000 to 3,000 won, kaisendon bowls at 14,000, 19,000 and 25,000 won, sashimi, tempura and a 5,000-won udon. A long bar runs down the middle, with partitioned tables around it. We read 32 posts dated 23 August to 19 October 2026, and all 32 describe a visit. Two September 2026 posts say the place had only recently opened.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Thick-cut fish is the most repeated point: 18 posts say so, one noting that a single piece fills your mouth, another that the flounder made them pause. One post disagreed, feeling the rice had been shaped in advance and resolving to pay more elsewhere next time.
  2. Nine posts found it an easy walk from the station, mostly about three minutes from Jonggak Exit 1. Two say an underground passage through the Starfield Avenue mall connects Jonggak Station to the restaurant without going outside.
  3. Sixteen posts ordered from a device at the seat; four call it a kiosk. One post says the six-person group table has no device, so staff take the order. Miso soup and wasabi are brought over; pickled shallots, ginger and soy sauce sit on the table.
  4. It is not bar seating only: 13 posts describe a central bar alongside partitioned wall tables and tables for four to eight. One post notes that the partitioned seats are not closed rooms.
3 more
  1. Fourteen posts call the portions large, eight of them about the udon: one says it is twice a normal udon shop's serving, another that it came in a basin-sized bowl. Two posts say they could not finish.
  2. Seven posts mention a separate takeaway kiosk at the entrance. One lists 1,000 won for a container and 500 won for a bag; another took leftover sushi home.
  3. Twelve posts found the tempura crisp. One wished the batter were thinner, another called it slightly thick and a matter of taste, and one found the shrimp on its udon soggy and peeling.

Posts saying you can park4 of 31 posts

Two hours' free parking in the building appears in nearly every post, but mostly as copied listing text. Four posts say they used it, two of them clearly arriving by car; one parked on basement level 4 and found the car park roomy and clean.

Getting inside

In a basement22 of 31 posts
Lift to the floor9 of 31 posts
Step-free access2 of 31 posts

The restaurant is underground: 22 posts describe going down to it, one of them calling it the second basement level rather than the first. One post says there is little signage at street level, which left them unsure they were in the right place.

Nine posts took a lift down to the basement. One walked down the stairs and only noticed the lift beside them on the way out; another parked on basement level 4 and rode up.

Two posts say they got in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. None mentions whether there is a step at the entrance. Some posts copy a listing line saying the entrance is wheelchair-accessible; we did not count it.

No post describes the toilets from experience. Four posts copy a listing line saying they are separated by gender. That does not mean they are lacking — just that nobody wrote about them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Eighteen posts find it good value; two reach no conclusion. Bills mentioned: 71,000 won for two plus soju, 73,000 won for two, 80,000 won, and 71,500 won for four. One post points out that 33,000 won is not cheap in itself. No post reports a price change between August and October 2026.
  • No post reports a wait. Two were seated straight away, at 7 pm on a Saturday and 1 pm on a weekend. Another, also at 7 pm on a Saturday, found it nearly full by the time they left. Nobody wrote about weekday lunch.
  • Posts disagree on the rice: one says each piece holds a lot of rice, another that it is about right, a third that it is pleasantly modest.
  • Twenty-four posts give the same opening hours — daily 11:00 to 21:30, break 15:00 to 17:00, last order 21:00 — but all copy them from the listing rather than from experience. None mentions a closing day.
  • Seventeen posts list the phone number 0507-1324-8219. No post says whether it actually takes reservations; one only copies the number under a 'reservations' label.
  • Eighteen of the 32 posts went up in the seven days from 13 to 19 October 2026, with the same search-keyword titles and the same information block. One discloses sponsorship; four say they paid their own way, two of them with a verified receipt — including the only negative post.
