Bogio Bokguk

복이오복국 Bokguk is pufferfish soup; bok also means good fortune, so the name reads as 'fortune comes' (복이 오-) — the house's Instagram handle, bok25fugu, plays on the same sound as 'bok 2-5'.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

A pufferfish restaurant on the second floor of the Cheongdam Deokyoung Building, 540 Dosan-daero, Gangnam. The core is Gyeongsang-style pufferfish soup cooked one earthenware pot at a time, clear (jiri) or spicy. Of 27 first-hand posts, 17 ordered the milbok soup; posts from August–September price it at 24,000 won, three early-October posts at 21,000 won. Weekday lunch brings a limited striped-pufferfish soup at 11,000–12,000 won, and the menu runs on to pufferfish bulgogi, karaage, cutlets, a 37,000-won lunch set and courses from 80,000 to 130,000 won. We read 30 posts dated 23 August to 24 October 2026; after setting aside two about other businesses and one written without a visit, 27 are first-hand.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Fifteen posts mention private rooms, some specifying two. Several also describe partitions or high-backed booths between hall tables, so neighbours are mostly out of sight. The room terms — up to six people, three hours, courses only — are relayed from the house, not observed.
  2. All five posts by people who drove used the valet: 3,000 won at lunch, 5,000 won in the evening. One describes the attendant taking the key to a mechanical car park, another being met on the ground floor. A 3 October 2026 post says self-parking in the building is no longer possible and only valet remains — at odds with the hourly self-parking rates many posts copied from the listing, so check before relying on it.
  3. Nine posts found the portions generous — more fish than expected, a bowl that filled one woman up, four large chunks of pufferfish in the clear soup.
  4. Six posts reached it by public transport or call it walkable: about 600 m, roughly eight minutes, from Cheongdam Station exit 13. One writer took the bus because parking is paid.

Separate restrooms1 of 25 posts

The restaurant is on the building's second floor; seven posts describe going up. Writers locate it above a Sinseon Seolnongtang on the main road, with the entrance around the corner, and one warns it is not on the ground floor.

Three posts mention a lift: one took it instead of the stairs and stepped out facing the door, one notes lift or stairs, and one places the milk-coffee machine between the lift and the entrance.

No one wrote about steps at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair — unknown, not absent. We only know the building has a lift.

Two posts say the toilets are outside the restaurant on the same floor, across from the door; one adds they were clean but the women's side had only one usable stall.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post mentions queuing. A couple went after the lunch rush and found it calm; we don't know what peak lunchtime is like.
  • Opening hours are all copied and they disagree: eight posts say 11:00–22:00 weekdays and 11:00–20:30 weekends, four say 11:00–22:00 with no split, and two mid-October posts say 11:00–20:30 daily with last orders at 20:00. Nearly all say there is no afternoon break; one alone lists a 15:00–17:00 weekday break. One couple ate there at 2:10 pm on a Sunday.
  • Prices appear to have moved. Seven posts (23 August–5 October) give the milbok soup at 24,000 won, three (2–8 October) at 21,000 won. The weekday-lunch special shifts from a 17,000-won haejang soup in August and early September to striped-pufferfish soup at 11,000 then 12,000 won from 20 September. One post alone prices the cutlet at 16,000 won; others say 18,000.
  • The phone number 0507-1423-4060 is copied in many posts. That rooms must be booked by phone and that Naver bookings get one bottle corkage-free are relayed house terms we couldn't verify.
  • One post discloses sponsorship, one says the writer paid, and the other 25 say nothing. Repeated stock phrases ('a pufferfish specialist run by a chef with 20 years' experience'), recurring hashtags and the house's how-to-eat card suggest some posts worked from material the restaurant supplied; we didn't count those phrases.
  • The story that it opened in 2013 in the Prima Hotel annex and moved here in March 2024 comes from the house. Every post we read describes the current location.
