I.O.U

아이오유 Aioyu I.O.U is shorthand for 'I owe you' — the owners' note, quoted in one post, says they felt they owed a debt for living with this view of the Han River and opened their house so others could share it.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

I.O.U is an Italian set-course restaurant in a red-brick house on the Cheongam-dong hill in Yongsan, looking down over the Han River toward the 63 Building. Dinner is a single chef's course at 128,000 won per person; lunch has a 68,000-won special course. The default main is duck breast; beef tenderloin is 10,000 won extra, and a T-bone for two is 80,000 won extra. Nearly everyone booked ahead and went for a birthday, anniversary, proposal or family occasion, and many walked down to the garden afterwards for photos. We read 30 posts dated 8 May to 16 October 2026; 26 of them describe eating here. Nine say they paid themselves; none disclose sponsorship.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Getting a window table is the whole game here. Seven posts sat by the window. One messaged the restaurant ahead to ask which time slot had a free window seat and booked 5:30 because of it; another asked for a window seat when booking. Two posts saw it differently: one said the river isn't really visible from the table, another that the view is backlit.
  2. Twelve posts went as a couple and seven with family. The couples came for birthdays, anniversaries and proposals; the family posts were a first meeting with future in-laws, Parents' Day, lunch with a mother, a first-birthday party and a visit to scout one. No one went alone.
  3. Twelve posts call the staff kind, and for the same reasons: they explain how to eat each course (start with the outermost cutlery, cut the ravioli into four) and suggest a walk down to the garden afterwards. One post found a short hair in a dish; the server took it away, removed the hair and brought the same plate back, which the writer did not like.
  4. Six posts describe using or seeing the private rooms. One notes that proposals are held only in a private room, with a compulsory 150,000-won flower setting; another says private rooms are for three or more, and a room for two has to be arranged with the restaurant directly.

  1. If you drive, it's valet. Five posts handed over their car and five drove there; every post that gives a fee says 3,000 won. One waited while the car was brought out of the yard, another was steered to the garden while waiting. Two skipped wine because they were driving.
  2. Seven posts say they booked (Catchtable or Naver). One notes dinner runs two hours, and timed it to see daylight from 5:30, sunset after 6:30 and the night view from 7. Several pre-ordered flowers or a cake and had them brought to the table mid-meal.

Getting inside

Second floor8 of 26 posts
Toilet inside1 of 26 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 26 posts

Each floor feels different. Eight posts ate on, or were shown, the second floor — the room with the big windows and a fireplace. The top floor is described as a low-ceilinged attic room; one post found it hot. One post says you can choose the floor when booking online.

Posts number the floors differently. One calls the street-entrance floor the first and the one below the basement; two others call the lower, garden-side floor the first floor while noting you reach it by going down stairs. All three agree there is a floor below the entrance reached by stairs; only the name differs. No post mentions a lift.

We don't know whether a wheelchair or pram can get inside. One post pushed a pram up the hill to the door; another left the pram at home because of the stairs. No one mentions a step at the entrance — that means no one wrote about it, not that there isn't one.

Only one post mentions the toilets: the men's room is on the lower floor. No one says anything about an accessible toilet or its size.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-09-282 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The walk from the station is uphill. Three posts address it: one came by bus, found the hill steep and took a taxi back; one took a taxi from Sinyongsan; one says the route from Mapo is a steep slope with stairs and recommends driving. The '7–15 minutes from Mapo Station exit 4' figure is copied from listings.
  • We don't know about queues: no post mentions waiting in line. That may be because almost everyone booked; whether walk-ins work rests on a single copied notice.
  • Seasoning splits two to two: two posts found it salty (the steak, and the courses overall), two found it mild.
  • Every opening-hours figure is copied from listings, not observed. Twelve posts give 11:00–22:30 with a 14:30–17:00 break, nine of them saying daily; last order 21:00, and three note closures on the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays themselves. One post (describing a visit the year before) says Monday–Saturday with Sundays off, one says until 23:00, and one says the Saturday break runs to 17:30.
  • The bill is the course price plus any main upgrade and extras. One proposal post paid 315,000 won in advance (150,000 flower setting, 120,000 flowers with vase, 45,000 cake) on top of the 128,000-won course. On value, one post called it reasonable for the setting, one called the T-bone supplement 'quite hefty', and one said such hilltop river-view places are usually poor value but this one's food held up. The only wine price given is 18,000 won for a glass of sparkling.
  • Two posts say bookings carry a 20,000-won-per-person deposit, deducted from the bill. One lists the cancellation terms: full refund up to three days before, 50% two days before, nothing after that, and five days' notice for cakes, flowers and proposal décor. Ten posts give the phone number as 02-3275-1151.
  • The chef's course changes with the seasons. Two May 2026 posts list avocado gnocchi, carasau bruschetta and a porcini pasta; posts from July onward list flounder ceviche, eggplant involtini and salsiccia ravioli. One October post also describes the gnocchi menu but doesn't say when it visited, and the 4 September post with that menu describes a winter visit. One 7 October post alone lists a different lunch course. Check the current menu before going.
  • Four posts didn't count as visits: two festival guides by the same author with identical text and a fireworks-viewing list mention I.O.U in one line each, and a date-course post only says it booked, alongside copied details.
