Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon-jeom

평안도식당 신촌점 Pyeongan-do is Pyeongan Province in what is now North Korea, and sikdang simply means restaurant, so the name reads 'the Pyeongan Province eatery', Sinchon branch.

Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →

Pyeongando Sikdang's Sinchon branch is a sundae-soup house on the ground floor of a side street off Yonsei-ro, a few minutes from exit 3 of Sinchon Station. The house sundae soup is 11,000 won; the set that adds a plate of sausage and pressed pork is 15,000 won (17,000 with the large soup); stews such as gamjatang start at 35,000 won for two. You choose mixed, meat-only or sausage-only, and order from a tablet at the table; several writers noted the sign on the door promising unlimited rice. We read 30 posts dated 29 January to 17 October 2026. 23 describe an actual meal; we removed 2 that were about other restaurants and did not count 5 that were lists or introductions.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Portion size is what comes up most: 19 of the 23 meal posts said the servings are big. One writer said of the regular sundae soup that it was not even the large size yet was piled high; another said the same of a regular spicy boneless soup. A repeat visitor warned twice, in February and May, that a set plus dumplings is a lot of food.
  2. Ten posts said the meat has no gamey smell, including one who noted the gamjatang pork was imported yet clean-tasting. No post reported an off smell.
  3. Ten posts called the room clean and four called it spacious. One described a wooden screen separating the entrance from the hall, wooden tables and green chairs; another said it lacked the stale, greasy feel of an old soup house.
  4. It is not counter-only: four posts described two- and four-person tables alongside single seats at a counter. Three writers went alone, five with friends and three with family. One noted an open kitchen.
7 more
  1. Ordering is by tablet or kiosk at each table, as eight posts describe. One writer found Southeast Asian languages offered besides English; another mentioned a separate staff call button.
  2. Four posts said food comes out fast, including one at 2:30 a.m. None said it was slow.
  3. Seven posts said the staff were friendly, including a pre-dawn visit after an all-nighter and a writer who singled out two part-timers.
  4. Seven posts saw or used the receipt-review offer: one review earns a small bag of yakgwa, two earn a soju, beer or basket of rib dumplings. Some writers got the yakgwa, others the dumplings.
  5. Three posts mentioned a sign offering 2,000 won off the sundae soup and offal set; one solo diner chose the set for that reason.
  6. Five posts put it a two- to three-minute walk from Sinchon Station exit 3, down the lane by the Paris Baguette. Nobody wrote about arriving by bus.
  7. Two posts, by the same writer, noted many foreign customers, often international students eating alone. Others mentioned multilingual menus and signs.

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

The most ordered dish is Pyeongando sundaeguk (평안도 순대국) — 8 of 23 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Five posts put it a two- to three-minute walk from Sinchon Station exit 3, down the lane by the Paris Baguette. Nobody wrote about arriving by bus.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 23 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 23 posts

No one who ate here described a step at the door or coming in with a wheelchair or stroller. The 'wheelchair-accessible entrance' line is copied from the shop's listing, so we did not count it. One writer did describe the ground-floor frontage.

One post confirmed the toilet is inside. That it is split by gender and wheelchair-usable appears only in copied listing text.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Two posts mention waiting. One says only that they waited briefly; another, at lunch, got the last table as a long line formed behind them. Nobody gave a wait in minutes.
  • Opening hours: 21 posts say it is open 24 hours, most adding every day of the year, and some writers ate there after midnight or before dawn. One post's copied listing also shows a 14:30–16:30 break, which contradicts that, and another says hours may vary. No one reported finding it closed.
  • Price: nobody called it expensive, and five posts called it fair value. From February to October 2026 the sundae soup stayed at 11,000 won and the set at 15,000. The boneless soups are listed at different prices in different posts, and one information post quoted 10,000 won for sundae soup. A solo meal ran 11,000–17,000 won; a small gamjatang for two was 35,000.
  • One post dissents: after a small gamjatang the writer judged the kimchi to taste imported, said it was nothing special and would not return. That was a guess from taste, not a posted origin label; several others praised the kimchi.
  • Many September–October 2026 posts carry the same set of search phrases in titles and hashtags, and three went up on 17 October alone. None disclose sponsorship; four say the writer paid. Claims such as 20-hour bone broth, broth discarded nightly and 100% Korean pork are the shop's own marketing and we did not rely on them.
  • Most posts give the same phone number, 0507-1374-2379; one has a digit off. Reservations, group seating for up to 50 and private hire appear only in copied listing text; nobody wrote about booking.
