Kkangchon Yeontanjip

깡촌연탄집 Kkangchon means a remote backwater village and yeontan the coal briquettes the meat is grilled over, so the name reads 'the backcountry briquette house', matching its retro rural-shack interior.

Compiled from 8 blog posts read in fullSources →

Kkangchon Yeontanjip is a briquette-grill pork house tucked into the eating alley on Yonsei-ro 9-gil in Sinchon, near Yonsei University. The core order is the 600 g 'Jeju geungogi' platter of Jeju pork neck and five-layer belly; all five posts that gave a price said 54,000 won. Staff grill the meat over coal briquettes from start to finish, and sides include kimchi stew (7,000 won), cheese steamed egg (5,000 won) and spicy cold noodles (6,000 won). We read 30 posts dated 14 August to 15 October 2026. Only 8 describe what was actually eaten; the other 22 repeat the same phrases in the same order and look like commissioned copy, so we did not count them.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You do not grill here. All eight visit posts say staff cooked the meat from start to finish. Several describe the finished neck and belly being split into separate steel bowls on the grill to stay warm, and one group of four noted that even the extra meat they added was grilled for them. Some mention anchovy sauce being warmed right on the briquettes.
  2. The cuts are thick: seven of the eight visit posts said so, and all eight said the meat stayed juicy inside. The house line about leaving the centre slightly pink comes from a sign in the shop and the commissioned posts, so we did not count it.
  3. Two posts describe a separate inner area enclosed by red tarpaulin, done up like a street-stall tent and used for groups.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 8 posts

Parking is contested. The one visit post that addressed it said there is no parking. Of three copied info blocks, two say no parking and one says paid parking in the building's basement garage (Arc Valley) with one hour validated on weekdays and two at weekends. We did not count the copied blocks.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post described the floor from experience; '1F' appears only in the address.

Nobody mentioned an entrance step or wheelchair or stroller access. That means we don't know, not that there is a problem.

No post said where the toilet is or whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 22 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-142 posts in one day
2026-10-133 posts in one day
2026-10-096 posts in one day
2026-10-077 posts in one day
2026-10-062 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Only one post described the room's size: about six tables, not large, though the spacing did not feel cramped.
  • No post mentions waiting either way. One post booked ahead and found the table already set.
  • Company varies: two group outings, one date, one with a mother, one with friends, and one with a husband.
  • Opening hours: five posts give Monday to Saturday 16:00-24:00, three give last order at 23:00, and four say closed on Sundays. Only one wrote this in its own words; the rest are copied listings. One copied listing says weekdays open at 12:30 instead.
  • Price: five posts agree on 54,000 won for the 600 g platter, described as serving two or three. No post gives a per-person total; one group of four had 1 kg of meat plus several sides but did not state the bill.
  • Seven posts list the phone number as 0507-1353-1740. Two commissioned posts give 02-333-9282 and 02-336-3392, which match nothing else. One post booked a table ahead.
  • Of the 30 posts, 22 repeat the same phrases in the same order (selected Jeju pork only, 'clean briquettes', grilled for you start to finish, pink in the middle, a simple menu), and 16 even share the same 19 hashtags. None gives a price, so we did not count them. Of the eight visit posts, one says it was a sponsored visit, one says the writer paid, and six say nothing. One post claims to have ordered soybean-paste stew, but another says the restaurant doesn't serve it and ordered kimchi stew instead.
