Jumak Boribap

주막보리밥 A jumak is an old Korean roadside tavern-inn, and boribap is rice cooked with barley — the house serves barley rice with five namul to mix in, and one post notes wooden lattice on the windows that gives it a tavern feel.

Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →

Jumak Boribap sits on the ground floor of Dongwoo Building, 17 Sinchon-ro, on the main road between Hongik Univ. and Sinchon stations. The original branch is in Seooreung, Goyang, and several writers came looking for the taste they knew from there. Solo diners order a bowl of barley rice with five namul and soybean soup (10,000 won since April 2026); pairs and groups order the two-person tteolegi sujebi pot (24,000 won) or an octopus, pollock or pork set (22,000-26,000 won), and mix everything with gochujang and sesame oil. We read 30 posts from August 2025 to October 2026: 24 describe eating there, one only introduces the place, and five were about other branches or other restaurants and were set aside.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. The two-person dishes are big. Of ten posts that talked about portions, eight said they were large. Of the tteolegi pot, one writer says four could share it, another says three; one pair left about a serving and took it home. One August 2025 post, though, found the rice with the octopus set on the small side.
  2. How hot the octopus is depends on who you ask. Five posts call it spicy — one says it is too hot for the spice-shy, another rates it above medium — and three describe it only as moderately spicy. The one post about the pork set says it was neither very hot nor sweet. Three posts found the seasoning on the salty side.
  3. It is an easy walk from transit. Four posts say so: one notes it is right in front of a bus stop, another that from exit 5 of Hongik Univ. station you walk uphill and cross one crosswalk. Two posts mention the big glass front looking onto the street.
  4. There is a room at the back. Two posts saw it, and one mentions floor seating further in. Three posts describe going as a group.

Parking

1 posts say you can park; 1 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you can park1 of 23 posts
Posts saying you cannot1 of 23 posts

Parking reports differ. One writer who drove parked 53 minutes in a lot in the side alley, paid 7,000 won, and got 2,000 won back from the restaurant. Another says parking is hard and suggests transit. Lines reading 'no parking' or 'partial parking support' were copied info blocks, and we did not count them.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

It is an easy walk from transit. Four posts say so: one notes it is right in front of a bus stop, another that from exit 5 of Hongik Univ. station you walk uphill and cross one crosswalk. Two posts mention the big glass front looking onto the street.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 23 posts

We do not know about floors or stairs; the address says ground floor, but no post describes going in.

We do not know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That is not a no — nobody wrote about it.

One post says the restroom is inside the restaurant. Nobody says whether it is split by gender or how big it is.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 24 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Accounts of the room size change over time. An August 2025 post found the room cramped with tables close together; four posts from April to August 2026 call it spacious, and one from August 2026 says there are many seats but you sit close. Two returning visitors in April and August 2026 thought it had been renovated, but we do not know when or what changed.
  • Prices went up. Posts through February 2026 list barley rice at 9,000 won, octopus stir-fry at 17,000 and the octopus set at 21,000 (August 2025); from April 2026 they read 10,000, 18,000 and 22,000. A meal is one rice bowl alone, or one two-person dish at 22,000-26,000 won for a pair.
  • We know little about waits. One post saw people queueing at lunch; another found it empty on a weekday after 8 p.m. A third went for a late lunch to avoid a possible wait, but no post says they actually waited.
  • Two posts disagree on service. One says a staff member kindly explained that plain rice can come as barley rice; another, arriving after 8 p.m. but before last order, says they got grumbled at both when ordering and when packing up leftovers.
  • One August 2026 post says lunch requires one dish per person. No other post mentions it, so we cannot confirm it still applies.
  • Fifteen visit posts give opening hours, all copied from listings. Thirteen say 11:00-21:30 and two (August 2025, January 2026) say 11:00-21:00; eleven give last order at 21:00. Closing days appear only once, as 'none', in a copied block.
  • Five posts give the phone number as 0507-1330-5662; one each gives 02-332-5662 and 0507-1387-1733. Phone and group reservations appear only in copied info lines; no post says the writer actually booked.
  • Two posts with leftover editor-template markup read like promotional copy, so we counted only what they said about portions, space and serving speed. One post comes from a real-estate agency's blog, and one introduction-only post was not counted.
