Gijeolchopung Wangsundae

기절초풍왕순대 Gijeol-chopung is an idiom for being so astonished you nearly faint, and wangsundae means 'king sundae' — posts note each piece of sausage is as big as three ordinary ones.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

A sundaeguk (blood-sausage soup) house at Bongcheon-ro 62-gil 2 in Gwanak-gu, between Nakseongdae and Seoul Nat'l Univ. stations. The soup comes red with chili paste stirred in unless you ask for it clear. Posts from visits since September 2026 list the soup at 10,000 won and the sundae set at 18,000 won (soup plus a plate of makchang sundae and head meat), and several say a pair orders one of each. Many posts came in straight off Gwanaksan. We read 30 posts dated 21 April to 21 October 2026; 21 of them record an actual meal.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Opinions split on smell: seven posts say there was no off-odour, five say there was. The dividing line is mostly the makchang sundae on the set and mixed platter. One post enjoyed its faint funk; another couldn't finish the platter because of a strong ammonia-like smell and won't return. Most found the soup and head meat clean.
  2. Sixteen posts call the portions large. Even with only three or four pieces of sundae in the bowl, one writer notes each is the size of three ordinary pieces, and another says a single set fed two.
  3. Waiting depends on the hour. Six posts saw or describe a line; seven walked straight in. One arrived at 11:20 on a Sunday with no line and watched one form five minutes later. Visits around 5 pm on a weekend, 1 pm at lunch, 7:30 pm on a weekday and 3:30 pm on a weekend all got seats right away. No post gives a timed wait in line; one waited ten minutes for the afternoon break to end.
  4. Eleven posts mention topping up side dishes at a self-serve bar. Kkakdugi comes to the table; cabbage kimchi is only at the bar, and it divides people. One post liked it far more than the kkakdugi, while two others found it tasted like imported Chinese kimchi and one noted it was labelled as Chinese.

  1. Despite the red colour, five posts say it isn't hot; two compare it favourably to Shin Ramyun. One post found it closer to a spicy yukgaejang.
  2. Five posts found it easy by public transport: five to ten minutes on foot from exit 4 of Nakseongdae station, or the 02-1 village bus from the engineering-college side of Gwanaksan. One post walking from Bongcheon station said it is a bit of a walk.
  3. Friends are the most common company, in five posts, three of them after hiking Gwanaksan. One post went alone and one with a husband.

Parking

Posts saying you cannot1 of 21 posts

Parking is unclear. Listing info copied into posts variously says free parking, room for two or three cars out front, or no parking at all. Two posts speak from what they saw: one says there is no dedicated parking and suggests the public lot, the other says there is no lot but people park along the street in front. No post describes driving there and parking.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Five posts found it easy by public transport: five to ten minutes on foot from exit 4 of Nakseongdae station, or the 02-1 village bus from the engineering-college side of Gwanaksan. One post walking from Bongcheon station said it is a bit of a walk.

Getting inside

Second floor13 of 21 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 11 (of 21 posts read)

Seating is on two floors. Thirteen posts mention the second floor, several saying they were sent upstairs because the ground floor was full. One post found the ground floor cramped because the kitchen is there and the upstairs roomier; another put the ground floor at roughly 15 to 20 seats. One weekday visit around 7:30 pm found only the ground floor open. Eleven posts ate on or describe the ground floor; none mention a basement.

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or pushchair can get in — that is unknown, not a no. Nor does anyone mention a lift to the second floor; the one 'elevator' a post mentions is a dumbwaiter for sending soup upstairs.

Two posts place the toilet between the first and second floors; whether that counts as inside the restaurant or on the stairwell, we can't tell. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in one post's copied info block, so we didn't count it.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 9 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices have moved. Posts from visits since September 2026 give 10,000 won for the soup, 12,000 for the large soup and 18,000 for the set. The older 9,000 and 17,000 figures appear in two roundup posts and one post from 25 September. A 20 September post mentions new prices stuck over the old ones on the menu and says they seem to rise every visit. We can't tell from the posts when the change happened. At current prices, one set plus one soup for two comes to 28,000 won.
  • Twelve posts give opening hours of 8 am to midnight, Monday to Saturday. Sunday closing is split: 9:20 pm in six posts, 9:30 in three, 9:00 in one, and one post says 8 am to 9:20 pm every day. The afternoon break is 3:30 to 5 pm in nine posts and 3 to 5 pm in one; one post says there is no break at weekends. Most of this is copied from listing info, so check before going.
  • Seven posts give the phone number as 02-872-8805; one gives 0507-1320-8817. On reservations, two posts say they aren't taken and one copied listing says they are.
  • We set aside 9 of the 30 posts: seven are roundups, festival guides or walking guides; one gives prices and a broth colour that match no other post; and one may describe the Sangdo-dong branch rather than this shop. Mentions of YouTuber Tzuyang visiting we treated as hearsay, counting only the two posts that saw the autograph on the wall.
