Osteria Maeryo

오스테리아 매료 Oseuteria Maeryo An osteria is a plain Italian eating house; maeryo means being captivated — the shop's banner reads 'one turn of the fork and you are captivated'. The chef himself spells it Osteria Maeryo.

Osteria Maeryo is an Italian restaurant on the ground floor of the Segwang Plaza block, unit 107, at the corner of Namak Central Park in Muan. It serves pasta, risotto, salads and chop steak, and a July 2026 post says it had then been open about a year. The same owner runs Studio Maeryo next door — candles, plaster, perfume — and three writers nearly walked into the workshop by mistake. The sign is small, and five posts lead with that. One almost went into the café next door; another had to look hard to find it. Three give bearings: beside the Mellow café, between the 88 pocha and the Hakdong noodle shop. Booking comes first here. The shop's own words: reservations are given priority, though walk-ins are taken. Naver's booking form has you choose your dishes in advance, and one writer liked the result — the food arriving as soon as her party sat down, like a set menu. Fifteen posts mention booking, and three who came without one found the tables full and were seated at the bar. You order from a QR code at the table; there is no paper menu — nineteen posts mention it, and one notes that staff will bring a printed menu for anyone uneasy with the code. The kitchen is open to the room — fourteen say so, six of them treating it as evidence the place is clean. Two things come free: the bread and olive oil at the start (twenty-one posts) and the pudding at the end (nine ate it). People order the sets. Eight took the two-person salad set at ₩51,000, and one notes the sets cost less than the same dishes separately. The most-ordered plate is the squid-ink risotto (fourteen); the shop's own signature is the butter-prawn pasta. It takes the Muan local-currency voucher (four posts) and one says it delivers through two apps. Five note its 2026 Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon listings.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. It is a small room. Six posts call it cramped or compact; one found it roomier inside than it looks. Two counted the seats: two or three tables for four, three for two, and the bar. So any party over two is told to book — three or more should ring ahead, and at weekends a table for four needs a reservation. Two parties of five were seated at a four-top with an extra chair pulled up.
  2. The seating changed in September 2026. Earlier posts describe a bar-led room: a party of three could not have a table for four; only groups got tables. A 8 September post records the change — where it had been bar seating, the tables were now separated, with more room to put the food down, and she preferred it. A July writer saw the same thing. Opinion on the old bar seats was split: one found hers uncomfortable, two did not mind at all and enjoyed watching the cooking.
  3. Small attentions recur. Four posts — all winter or early spring — mention warm wet towels, one of them steaming; the owner told her that in summer he adds a drop of essential oil. Staff talk you through the food: three were shown how to tear the burrata into the dressing, two warned to let the dessert melt rather than inhale the cocoa. Three mention the coat rail, one grateful not to drape a long coat over a chair, and one was brought a cup of ice with her drink when she asked.
  4. Five posts note the 2026 Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon listings, one remarking that the place had been open barely a year. Two mention that the chef writes the shop's own blog and Instagram, quoting his line about more than ten years of cooking.
  5. Three offers appear. A receipt over ₩30,000 gets 10% off next door at Studio Maeryo (three posts); following the shop on Naver Maps got a free canned soft drink (two, February 2026); a photo review of the receipt got 10% off (one, February 2026). The last two appear only in February posts, so we cannot say whether they still run. Two note cashback when paying with the Muan voucher.

Parking

13 posts say you can park; 1 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

You can park, but whether the restaurant has a car park of its own is written differently in every post. Thirteen mention parking: five say the building has an underground car park, nine point to the public car park in front or across the street, three simply parked on the verge — and one April post states flatly that there is no car park and you use the public one. We cannot tell whether that underground car park belongs to this restaurant or to the building. One driver who used it (July) warns of a high lip at the entrance and suggests only confident drivers take it. Another wrote that the verge is a yellow solid line but seems not to be enforced — which is not something we can recommend.

Getting there

Map showing where Osteria Maeryo is

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 27 posts read)

On floors, the address is all there is. The restaurant is unit 107 on the ground floor of Segwang Plaza, and in twenty-eight posts no one describes seating on a second floor or in a basement — the basement is the car park. No one counts steps or mentions a lift. Several posts describe a first-floor café nearby; that is a different business.

Nobody writes about the doorway or about wheelchairs and pushchairs. In twenty-eight posts there is not one line on whether there is a step at the door, how wide the door is, or whether a wheelchair or a pram can get in. The one 'lip' anybody mentions is at the entrance to the building's underground car park, not at the restaurant door. Six posts say there are high chairs for children — two of them, by the till. A high chair is not a flat doorway. The lavatory is the building's shared one, so it means going outside. Anyone who needs to know should ring the shop: 0507-1320-1176.

The lavatory is not inside the restaurant — two posts say so: it is the shared one for the building. The other twenty-six posts do not mention a lavatory at all.

Nobody writes about an accessible lavatory or about separate lavatories for men and women. Only two posts mention the lavatory at all, and both stop at saying it is the building's shared one — not which floor it is on, nor how many doors, nor how much room there is.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Nobody writes about queuing. This is all twenty-eight posts have: three found the tables full and were put at the bar, one walked in without a booking and got in, and one says only that there may be a wait if you have not booked. So how long you would wait, nobody says. What three do record is how fast the room fills: first customer at opening, every table taken by the time she left; all the tables full immediately after she sat down; the room already busy shortly after five.
  • Nobody writes about getting here without a car. In twenty-eight posts there is no bus number, no stop name, no walking time from a station. What is written is driving (thirteen mention parking; one novice driver managed with satnav) and what it is near on foot: four place it at the end of Namak Central Park, five minutes from Kim Dae-jung Square, and one walked 300m to a café afterwards. So whether you can get here by public transport is something we cannot yet answer. Namak is the seat of the provincial government and buses do reach it, but the posts we read do not say so.
  • Not one post declares a sponsorship. Of twenty-eight, nine state outright that they paid for the meal, one was treated by a friend, and the rest do not say. One writer, comparing the place with another, volunteered that she had no stake in it and had not been paid. That the praise runs one way is worth recording plainly. Only four posts contain a complaint, each about a single plate: tough chop steak (April), too few garlic shoots in the aglio e olio (August), an ordinary pomodoro (February and January), an uncomfortable bar seat (June). One post was dropped from the denominator (its subject is a café next door) and one lists the menu without anyone having eaten (a four-restaurant editorial round-up).
