Seogyeri Garden
서계리가든 Charcoal-grilled free-range chicken and duck by Gokseong bus terminal, sold by the whole bird
Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →
Seogyeri Garden cooks free-range chicken and duck next door to Gokseong bus terminal, across from the town's train-village park. It made its name on chicken grilled over real charcoal, and at the end of 2025 it moved down from its old spot by Wonhyo valley into this larger room in town — six posts tell that story, and a café now occupies the old site. The move came with four new dishes. Chicken and duck are sold by the whole bird, and they take time, so this is a place you telephone before you set off. Ten in the morning until ten at night, closed between three and four-thirty, and closed Mondays. The posts we read run from February to September 2026.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart
- There is almost nothing here sized for one. Twenty-one of the twenty-seven posts say the portions are large, but that is less generosity than arithmetic: this kitchen sells by the bird. ₩70,000 for the braised chicken, ₩75,000 grilled, ₩60,000 for the duck, ₩80,000–85,000 for the simmered ones — each a whole animal, and three posts call it three to four people's worth. Four couples could not finish and all four took the rest home. If there are one or two of you, the single bowls are the short-rib soup at ₩15,000, the raw-beef bibimbap, the cold acorn-jelly dish, and the samgyetang at ₩18,000 — though not one post says they ate the samgyetang.
- This is a place you ring before you leave the house. Ten posts raise it, and two spell out that the braised chicken and the simmered birds want an hour's notice. The difference is visible: those who booked write that the side dishes were already laid out, that the pot arrived in under five minutes, that a 12:10 reservation was ready at 12:10. Those who did not, waited. One warns that, as at any chicken house, it takes time — and that older relatives may not enjoy the gap. The one exception, another notes, is the grilled chicken, which you cook yourself anyway.
- In these posts the side dishes come up as often as the main one. Twenty writers praise them separately, six say the owner makes them herself, and two asked her to be sure. Eight asked for a refill — fishcake, cucumber salad, pickled water-parsley, green salad — one from a self-serve bar, one because the owner came over and asked first. Two wanted to take the white kimchi home and one wanted the recipe. The line-up turns over with the season; one post counted six dishes, another four.
- Searching the old address will send you to the wrong place. The restaurant moved into town at the end of 2025, and six posts say so: one looked up the address she remembered and was baffled to find somewhere else; another warns that TMap still returns the old location and to search on Naver instead; a third had been a regular at the old site. It is worse than an ordinary move, because a café under a similar name still occupies the old building. The address now is 833 Gokseong-ro, and one writer says to look for the blue sign, visible from a distance.
1 more
- There is a washbasin just inside the door, and five posts mention it — one glad not to have to go looking for the lavatory, another simply noting how sensible it is in a room where everyone eats with their hands. Alongside it, three writers helped themselves to coffee on the way out and one mentions a palate-cleansing drink set out by the exit; two took the coffee onto the outdoor terrace.

Parking
16 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.
| Posts saying you can park | 16 of 27 posts |

Sixteen posts describe the car park from having used it: a private lot right in front, and repeatedly called large — big enough, two say, for the crowds during cherry-blossom season or on market day. That does not mean it is empty: one writer arriving at noon on a weekday found it nearly full. Six further posts say only 'parking available' without any sign they parked; those came off a copied facilities list and we have not counted them.

Where it is

From the station
There is a washbasin just inside the door, and five posts mention it — one glad not to have to go looking for the lavatory, another simply noting how sensible it is in a room where everyone eats with their hands. Alongside it, three writers helped themselves to coffee on the way out and one mentions a palate-cleansing drink set out by the exit; two took the coffee onto the outdoor terrace.
Getting inside
No post says what floor it is on. One calls it a free-standing building, and the licence gives the ground floor. Whether there are steps, or a lip between the car park and the door, nobody writes — sixteen posts discuss the car park and not one of them describes the walk from it to the entrance.
Not one of the twenty-seven posts mentions a step, a ramp or a wheelchair. We do not know whether there is a lip at the door. Eight came with children and two note that high chairs are kept, but nobody says whether a pushchair gets in. One post does tell us the seating is all at tables rather than on the floor. If you are coming with a wheelchair or a pushchair, call 0507-1315-6566 first.
Nobody writes about the lavatories from having seen them. Three posts do say the men's and women's are separate — but all three carry the same copied facilities list ('group bookings, takeaway, reservations, wi-fi, separate lavatories, parking'), so we have not counted it. Whether they are inside the restaurant or out in the building, how many stalls, whether there is a step on the way: no one says. Words on a page are not the same as something someone saw.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Everyone drove. Nine posts describe it as a run out from Gwangju — three of them put it at thirty to forty minutes — and not one arrived by bus or train. Two note that it sits right beside Gokseong bus terminal and three that it is five to ten minutes by car from the train village, but that is a description of where it is, not a record of anyone getting there without a car. How long the walk from the terminal takes, or which way to turn, nobody says.
- Not one post reports queuing. Five mention the waiting chairs out front and the terrace, but nobody says they sat in them. Three describe the room as packed — the day after the last dog-day of summer, one o'clock on a Sunday, half-eleven on a weekday with the room already nearly full — and all three were seated. So many booked ahead that we cannot say what happens if you do not.
- One post declares a sponsorship — the writer says outright that she came as part of a tasting panel — and two state they paid their own way. The other twenty-four say nothing either way. One more we left out of the count entirely: its blog is titled for the restaurant and its text opens 'Hello, this is Seogyeri Garden in Gokseong'. It is the shop speaking, not a diner, and counting it would make the numbers false.
- There are two phone numbers. Ten posts give 0507-1315-6566; one May 2026 post gives 061-362-9888. The 0507 prefix is a forwarding number in Korea, so both are probably the same line, but we have not checked. On payment, three posts mention local-currency schemes — the county's own card, a gift voucher, a government support voucher — but each names a different one, so ask when you get there which are being taken.
- We cannot tell you how the hwangchil dishes taste. Only one post ate the simmered bird, the most expensive thing on the menu, and that was before the move. The hwangchil samgyetang was eaten by none of the twenty-seven — four saw it on the menu and filed it away for next time, one watched an older table having it. Two mention reading the framed notice about hwangchil's health properties, but that is the restaurant's own writing, not anyone's verdict.
