Gyemoim

계모임 퓨전전기구이통닭 A fusion electric-roast chicken house in Jeonju's Sinsigaji district, named with the Korean word for a savings-club dinner.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

Gyemoim is a fusion electric-roast chicken house on the ground floor of a commercial block on Hongsannam-ro, in Jeonju's Sinsigaji district. The registered name is the single word Gyemoim — a word that ordinarily means a savings-club gathering — while the sign and the map listing spell it out as Gyemoim Fusion Electric-Roast Chicken. A whole bird is roasted with the fat dripping away, sauced, and brought to the table in the cast-iron pan it cooked in. The signature, taken from a taco, buries it under jalapeño mayonnaise and rings it with nacho chips. Five in the evening until midnight, one in the morning on Fridays and Saturdays, closed Sundays. It opened in February 2026, and the posts we read run from then to September.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Twenty-three of these posts say the same thing: the breast meat is not dry. The shape of the sentence barely changes — they walk in braced for the usual failing of a roasted bird and come out surprised. "The breast is the bit I normally leave, and here I didn't." "You wouldn't know it was breast." "Not dry at all." "The juiciest breast meat of my life." It is an unusual amount of agreement about one cut. But treat the agreement carefully: it is also the shop's own claim, and six writers describe the owner setting the pan down and telling them to start with the breast while it is hot. Six people were told where to begin, and began there. Six single out the crisp skin, four the leanness.
  2. Three things arrive without charge, and twenty posts name the same three: puffed corn, pickled radish, and shredded cabbage under ketchup and mayonnaise. They come out before the chicken. Two writers point out that the cabbage salad is a paid extra at most chicken shops now; a third simply approves. Four confess to eating the puffed corn absent-mindedly until it is gone. One lists the full setting that lands as you sit: water, paper cups, side plates, wet wipes, tongs, scissors and a bin for the bones.
  3. There is a pot of hair ties on every table. Eight writers mention it and all eight read it the same way, as a thought on the owner's part: something to tie your hair back with before you take a bird apart with your hands. Fifteen posts talk about the owner at all, and what he did keeps repeating: he explains how to eat the dish (six), warns that the pan is hot (two), cuts it up for you (one), asks whether anyone has a peanut allergy, because the sauce has peanuts in it (one), and pours the beer into a frozen glass (two). Not one writer complains about the service.
  4. There is a big television in the middle of the room, and it is showing a game. Six writers mention it and say what was on: baseball for three, football for one. One, a football supporter, works out on the spot that this is where to watch. Another's baseball team lost that night and says so. A third thinks the place will be full when the World Cup is on. It is a room built for watching something — two writers say it feels less like a chicken shop than a bar.
2 more
  1. Write a review and you get a side dish — fifteen posts say so. Two offers run at once: ask for the receipt, scan the code and leave a photo review, and you get a cheese stick, chips or a soft drink there and then; spend over a threshold and leave a review on the map app, and you get a cinema ticket. One post mentions the ticket in connection with birthdays, and we cannot tell whether that is a separate offer or a slip. All fifteen end the same way: don't miss it. Worth holding in mind while reading reviews of this place — the person writing has a reason to be kind. Only one writer says they did not take part.
  2. Three writers say one bird is enough for two adults. One regrets it: they were too full to try a second dish. Four remark on the size of the bird and three on the size of the legs. One writer came alone and finished a whole one, having looked at it and thought she wouldn't. The plain roast is ₩15,900; the sauced ones run ₩18,900 to ₩21,900.

Parking

10 posts say you can park; 2 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you can park10 of 25 posts
Posts saying you cannot2 of 25 posts

The posts flatly contradict each other about parking, and we leave the contradiction standing. Ten say there is somewhere to leave a car: two name an underground car park in the building, two a small lot round the back, one the front of the shop, four a public car park beside or behind it, and one simply parked on the street because it was evening. Two state outright that there is none — one adds that spaces are scarce in this district and suggests the public lots or the bus, the other just points to the nearest public car park. It reads as though the restaurant has no lot of its own and everyone uses the public ones nearby, but two people describe an underground car park and we cannot rule it out. One writer gives a figure: ₩900 for thirty minutes at the public lot. Another found a free one.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 25 posts read)

No one writes about the floors. The address ends "unit 101, first floor," and all twenty-five copy that line, but nobody reports whether there is more seating above or next door. It is one unit in a commercial block, and four writers describe two- and four-tops being pushed together for larger parties.

Nobody looked at the step. Not one post says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in, or whether there is a lip at the door. Three describe the front as a black folding door and a glass wall you can see through, which suggests it opens wide, but we have not confirmed it. Two writers came with young children and neither says what became of the pushchair. Twenty-one describe a wide room with generous space between tables — but that is after you are inside.

There is no toilet inside the restaurant — you use the building's shared one. Exactly one of the twenty-five writers says so, in a May 2026 post. One other adds only "take tissue with you when you go," without saying whether that means there is none there. Not one post says whether men's and women's are separate, which floor they are on, or whether a wheelchair could use them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • We counted twenty-five posts, not thirty. The restaurant's name is an ordinary Korean word first — it means the sort of savings-club dinner you might book a room for — so four posts about entirely different restaurants came in with it: a grill house across town, a stir-fried octopus place in another Jeonju neighbourhood, and two about an Italian restaurant in Pohang, 250km away. The Pohang pair even share a neighbourhood name with this address, which made them look right. One more we dropped because nothing in it but the name belongs to this place: no address, no price, no hours, and none of the hair ties, puffed corn, nachos, receipt event or television that every one of the other twenty-five mentions.
  • The posts bunch up, and the shop gives you something for writing one. Fifteen of the twenty-five went up in the nine days from 2 to 10 September 2026, four on each of two of those days. Four disclose a sponsorship or a review-programme seat; one of those adds that part of the bill was still its writer's own. The other twenty-one say nothing. But fifteen posts describe the receipt-review offer — a photo review earns a cheese stick, chips or a soft drink, and spending over a threshold earns a cinema ticket — which is not sponsorship but is still payment for writing. We cannot tell how many of the twenty-five were compensated. What we can say is that they order different things, record different prices, park in different places and contradict each other on the details, so we do not think one manuscript was handed round.
  • One writer describes getting here without a car: off the bus at a stop named for the apartment block opposite, two minutes on foot. One other suggests taking the bus if you intend to drink, without naming a route. Those who give directions all point at a different neighbour — a noodle house next door, a chain restaurant's building, a fast-food place — and agree only that it sits on the main road at the district's central crossing.
  • Not one writer says they queued. One arrived at the after-work hour worrying the district would be too busy, and was relieved to find room inside — which is to say, they sat down. One notes a full room on a Saturday and one a steady stream of delivery orders, and both were seated at once. One post says the place takes bookings.
  • The opening hours appear to have changed between spring and autumn. Five posts from February to June 2026 give six in the evening (two say five) until one in the morning, every day alike. Thirteen from August and September give five in the evening, midnight on Monday to Thursday and one in the morning on Friday and Saturday. That looks like a change rather than a disagreement, but we have not confirmed it. One post alone says every day until one and names no closing day, while eighteen say Sundays. One post whose hours cannot be right — it has the place opening at seven in the morning — we left out. The phone number is disputed too: ten posts give one number, one gives a second, one gives a mobile.
