석정옥 A gomtang house across the road from the Gochang hot springs, open from eight in the morning
Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →
Seokjeongok is a gomtang house on the ground floor of the Seokjeong Tower in Gochang, Jeonbuk. The hot-spring baths are directly across the road and a hotel and a golf course are within walking distance, so much of the room is people on their way to or from one of the three. Beef bone and brisket go into a cauldron for a long time, and the broth comes three ways — white, clear, and spiced — alongside a knuckle soup and a short-rib soup limited to fifty bowls a day. A raw-beef bibimbap dressed in perilla oil joined the menu in 2026. Doors open at eight in the morning and close at eight at night, with the kitchen shut from three until five. The posts we read run from November 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- Exactly one writer describes queueing — between half past eleven and half past twelve, he says, the place fills up and you may have to wait, though he adds that it is not always so. Others record the opposite: an early lunch with nobody in the room, a quiet table just after the afternoon break. Several say it was busy, but busy here means the tables were full, not that anyone stood outside — the room is large enough that the two are worth keeping apart.
- Room is what people notice first. One writer says the staff did not register that they had come in, the place being that big. There is a separate space for parties, and partitions between tables that one person describes as private-feeling without being private. One post mentions a proper room. For a group, by one account, you give the date, the dishes, the number and the time in advance, and it is ready when you arrive.
- The first setting comes to the table; after that you help yourself. Eight posts say so. Cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi to start, with green chilli, onion and soybean paste at the bar. Two note the side plates, the scissors and tongs, even a ladle for the radish-kimchi brine. The kimchi draws praise, though not unanimously: one writer found the radish gone soft and a little too sour, while another met the same sourness and thought it went well with the soup — the same thing, read two ways. One warns that the green chillies at the bar are genuinely hot.
- A lot of these meals are family meals. Two writers say they saw the high chairs themselves — one mentions child-sized bowls alongside. One reports being brought a small dish, a ladle, a child's fork and spoon without having asked. Another found the beef soft enough that her child ate it uncut; another mixes the rib broth into the gomtang for the same reason. Three further posts list 'high chairs' inside a block of copied listing information, and those are not counted — having read it is not the same as having seen it.

- Five writers say they would come back — one flatly, one wishing it were nearer home, one imagining it as the place to go when the weather turns or the night before catches up. Nobody says they would not. One did come back: she writes that they had been often before. Worth remembering, though, that many of these people are passing through for the baths or the golf, so coming back is not the same as coming often.
- They sell meal kits, and not one writer bought any. Eight mention seeing them by the till and eight stop there. Two note a thousand won off each pack if you take three, two say it works out much cheaper than eating in — and none of them says what it costs. One suggests them as a present for older relatives. Separately, one post notes that anything on the menu can be packed to take away.

Parking
10 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

People write about parking here from experience, and they park in different places. The lot behind the building comes up most often, twice with a note that there is plenty of room. Three parked on the verge in front instead — one of them saying plainly that he had heard there was a big lot but could not confirm it, having pulled up at the kerb. One post gives the lot's lot-number outright. Posts that merely copy the words 'parking available' are not counted here — only people who actually left a car somewhere.

Where it is

Getting inside

| Lift to the floor | 3 of 23 posts |
The restaurant is on the ground floor, but you may not arrive at it from the street. Two writers report that satnav brings you to the back of the Seokjeong Tower, where the car park connects to the building's second level — so you park, take the lift, and come down one floor to the door. One post spells out the route; another simply says the lot is on the second floor and the lift brings you to the first. Three people thought it worth explaining, which suggests it catches first-timers out.
Not one writer says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. The words for step, threshold and ramp do not appear in any of the twenty-four posts. One line mentions a disabled parking bay, but that is the car park; what happens between the car and the door, nobody describes. Coming in from the back does put you in a lift rather than on a staircase, which looks promising — but we have not confirmed that route works for a wheelchair, and we will not say either way.
Nobody describes the toilets from having used them. Three posts contain the phrase 'separate men's and women's', and all three of them carry it inside the same copied block of listing information — group bookings, takeaway, high chairs, reservations, wi-fi, parking, in that order. Two of those three we did not count as visits at all. Whether the toilet is inside the restaurant or out in the building's corridor, whether it is clean, what floor it is on — we do not know any of it. Being on the ground floor of a commercial tower, it may well be shared, but that is a guess and we leave it as one.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- You may not get the short-rib soup. Fifty bowls a day, boiled that morning and sold that day. One writer arrived a little after one in the afternoon to find it finished; another came early and was told it was still on the boil. Too early will not do and nor will too late, and no post says when the window opens. One useful detail: a visitor at twenty to ten in the morning reports that the number of bowls left is posted where you order — thirty-one, that day. So you can at least see where you stand.
- Nobody writes about getting here without a car. No bus, no train, no taxi appears in twenty-four posts. Two people did walk — both of them from the hot-spring complex directly across the road — and a third notes that the hotel, the baths and the golf course are all close enough to walk from. All three were already in this particular corner of Gochang. How you would reach it from the town centre, or from the bus terminal, is something we cannot tell you.
- Six of the thirty posts were set aside. One was a review of a café that mentions this place only as a landmark. The other five we could not treat as visits. One is a directory of a couple of dozen Gochang restaurants, phone numbers and opening hours; two are written entirely in the voice of captions, with no dish named and no price given — one of those opens by disclosing that the writer was paid. The last two went up six days apart and say the same things in the same order, including an identical list of 'signature dishes' that appears on no photographed menu and that none of the twenty-four visitors ordered. Left in, they would have counted as six more diners who were never here.
- Six of these posts are trip diaries covering several places — a night at the hotel, bread from the bakery, an afternoon at the baths, and a meal here at the end. All six record eating here, so all six count; but only what they say about this room is counted. The hotel breakfast price, the spa admission, the spa's own car park: none of that belongs to this restaurant and none of it was used. In two of the six, what is said here runs to two or three sentences and little could be taken from them.
