MOTOISHI

모토이시 연동점 Motoishi Yeondong-jeom Motoishi is the name of a nationwide yakiniku chain; Yeondong-jeom simply means its branch in Yeondong, Jeju City.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

The Yeondong branch of the Motoishi yakiniku chain, at the mouth of Nuwemaru Street in Jeju City (41 Yeondong 7-gil). You grill Australian wagyu yourself over a charcoal brazier at the table, and nearly every post ordered the six-cut set. As of October 2026 posts, the six-cut set with soft tofu stew is 75,000 won and the hours are 17:00-01:00 (last order midnight), closed Mondays. Earlier posts (March 2025 to February 2026) had the set at 69,000 won with the stew served free, and closing at 1:30 a.m. Almost every post describes the room dressed as a Japanese back alley with signs, posters and figurines. We read 28 posts from February 2025 to October 2026; 4 were about other Motoishi branches (Wonju, Cheonan, Suwon) and were set aside, leaving 24, all first-hand visits.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Walking in can go either way, two posts each. One (February 2026) waited two hours without a booking; another waited 20-30 minutes on an early weekend evening. One walked in at 8 p.m. and sat straight down, and one arriving at opening found plenty of seats. Five posts said they booked through Naver.
  2. How the soft tofu stew arrives depends on when. Four posts from March 2025 to April 2026 got the clam stew free with the table. October 2026 posts ordered it bundled into the 75,000-won six-cut set, and one gave its single price as 9,800 won.
  3. Five posts ordered from a kiosk or tablet at the table, and a laminated paper menu sits alongside. You grill the meat yourself (one post said staff do not grill for you), though there is a printed grilling order and staff explained it in several posts.
  4. Noise splits: one post found it quiet, two found it loud. A Friday-night visit described a full room, tight table spacing, a noisy neighbouring table and more than half the guests foreign; a weekend-evening visit said the small space carried the voices behind them.

  1. Six posts drank draft beer; a 425 ml Kirin was 8,800 won in June 2025. One post said corkage is free, and it is the only one to say so.

Parking

6 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot6 of 24 posts

There is no lot of its own. Of 11 posts that mentioned parking, 6 said outright you cannot park at the door; the 2 that drove used the Sinjeju or Jewon public car parks and walked about five to seven minutes. It sits in a car-free street, several posts suggest leaving the car if you plan to drink, and one post came by bus.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 24 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 24 posts

No post said which floor the dining room is on or whether there are stairs; the "1st floor" in the address is registry text, not a report.

No post said whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That means we do not know, not that there is a barrier.

Two posts mentioned the toilets: one said they are inside at the back and separated by sex, the other that they were clean with mouthwash and floss.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Only one post came by bus, and it did not say which stop or how far the walk was. "Ten minutes by car from the airport" is repeated across many posts.
  • Opening hours changed over time. Seven October 2026 posts agree on 17:00-01:00 (last order midnight), closed Mondays; four posts from March 2025 to February 2026 gave a 1:30 a.m. close (last order 1:00). One July 2025 post alone listed Monday and Tuesday closures. We only know the change came between February and October 2026.
  • Posts typically had two people share one six-cut set plus rice or sides; the set went from 69,000 to 75,000 won (stew included). On value it is one against one: a work-dinner post found it hard on the wallet, another called it reasonable for wagyu. No post gave a per-person total.
  • Two posts listed the phone number 0507-1356-2929. No post booked by phone; every booking mentioned was through Naver. The "free beef tartare with a Naver booking" offer is the shop's promotion, repeated by posts, and we did not count it.
  • Eight October 2026 posts repeat the same points in the same order (top-5% wagyu, labelled cuts, grilling clockwise, the Naver booking perk) like commissioned copy, though none disclosed sponsorship. Two 2025 posts share identical introductory sentences, and one still contains a line from another restaurant's copy. Claims such as "No. 1 yakiniku" and "top 5%" are repeated promotion and were not counted.
